Why are there 4 hook champions with near-identical mechanics?

Blitzcrank, Nautikus, Pyke and Thresh arguably can all do the same thing. Why not have one of their hooks instead have very different uses? Blitz could rescue an ally or grab a foe. Pyke's harpoon could work like an actual harpoon. Thresh has his lantern already, and Nautilus can use his to pull himself to terrain. But I think they should all have unique uses for their hooks instead of just different versions of what is essentially the same mechanic.

they are different.

blitz is a insta grab for a kill he dont have great defense capabilities and completely useless if he misses his Q

naut is a tank who has tons of cc and no kill threat

thresh is a utility support, he can hook to slow, or hook and pull himself to you, he has a lantern that he can shield or pull allies to him plus his flay to disengage and his ult to create an AOE to zone/slow

pyke is an assassin who is designed to get kills for himself while sharing the gold with his allies

They all try to do their job with long range skillshots that works similarly to the other one though. Once your hit your champion is displaced to their location, which even if it's Nautilus it can easily lead to your death.

and all adcs auto attack from range

and all mages do magic damage

whats the point ?

I don't know, I am burned out from seeing them so much that I just want something else to play against. I don't mean to sound like I think they shouldn't be in the game. Especially since I find that playing against them is stressful to me.

Yes and all ADCs do the exact same thing and all single target skill shots do the same thing. Any support that heals is the same thing.

Garens q is the same exact thing as karmas shield because theyre both movement speed buffs

Actually malzahar is the same exact type of champion that diana is because they both do magic damage. Should i go on?

I just don't want to near exclusively face hook champions. I don't mean to simplify this so much. I hate these champions because they punish mistakes really, really, really, REALLY hard. And in this game I don't know if it's because I'm just not intelligent or if there's something I have to go find out from some other source.

Most hook champs are snowball reliant, meaning they get ahead, their complete cancer, their behind their legit useless

Wouldn't a strong cc ability make them useful as long as they don't manage to die?

Your behind and you hook a 3/0 xayah into you and your adc, she's prob gonna just get a double kill, you might be useful if the rest of your team did well but they need to do well, otherwise no snowball, means your kinda useless, hell i've lost games because of blitzcranks/pykes hooking the wrong ppl, lost a game to a blitz hooking a 14/1 jax into our team, letting him 1 shot our only fed carry, hooks are strong, but only if your team is strong enough to follow up, otherwise you can end up enabling the enemy team with them, in lane even a bad hook usually = a death or 2

Lmao no. A blitzcranks job is to hook a squishy into his team and provise cc until its dead. Same with nautilus and its pretty similar to thresh. Their damage is a complete nonfactor and a lack of tankiness can be worked around. Blitz is the only champ in the game that can perform well without ever buying a single item.

he relies on his teammates to snowball, happy? w/o them snowballing he's garbo

Yes every support that isnt a mage building full ap is reliant on someone on their team

some supps can carry shitty teammates, like yuumi, or janna, blitz, pyke....they cant, either its win or bust basically, nauts/threshes hooks are alot easier to dodge but in exchange are safer champs that can carry their shitty adc

Keiaga1 votes

Yuumi and janna lack any type of damage and therefore any ability to carry a game themselves. We already know pyke doesnt function like any other support but if his team cant do damage he doesn't have the tools to reliably kill more than one squishy target so even hes team reliant.

No matter what the support is their single job is to make things EASIER for their team, not carry the game themselves.

a good support player on the right champ can keep some of the shittiest adcs alive to get them fed, this is what im getting at

Keiaga1 votes

Not every support helps in the same way. Janna can peel anyone off a shitty adc but shes not the one to get them fed in the first place. hook champs are there to bring their adc a kill on a silver platter. In fact theyre probably the best group of supports there is in terms of giving their adc kills. But No support can force an adc to play better tho.

true, but i have been carried by good supports keeping me alive and getting me kills, overall i feel the support is one of the most influential roles in the game, but hook supports are more reliant on snowballing then anything (or poor enemy awareness)

Theyre stronger at low elo because displacement is the strongest form of cc that can exist. Hooks rely on you to make a mistake which low elo players are constantly doing.

Blitz could rescue an ally

I would say no to that, I can imagine all the trollcranks.

I mean, actually they're all pretty different champions.

Thresh's Hook is more of a drag with a slower build time while the rest of his Kit offers Peels.

Blitz's Hook is fast but after that he's pretty useless

Naut was made for JG/Top but got put in support because of the mass amount of CC he has but he's somewhat similar to Thresh in that he has CC out the ass, but isn't quiet as good at peeling but great at engaging

Pyke has a extremely telegraphed hook but unlike the other 3 tends to offer actual amount of Damage and some deception, while not being anywhere near as tanky (in theory).

While they all have a similar ability (I mean we can argue a lot of champs have similar abilities (Are AA and Riven the same champ because of their Qs?))
