Why does true damage exist? Did it always?

Just wonder why true damage exists and whether or not it did from the beginning. i wasn't around since beta so i don't know but true damage seems to be nothing but a big fuck you to everyone in the game. kill squishies easy and makes resistances useless. No one wins except for the person playing the character, or at least please tell me why for some characters its so easy to use like Vayne or Yi (examples not saying they're OP). At least Vel'koz has to hit all of his moves and put them on CD and costs a pretty good amount of mana to spam and it's flat, no scaling at all. That and he's barely faster then a turtle with 4 broken legs and dies of a heartattack if any champ makes a scary face at him. I genuinely curious not really raging or anything, is there something i'm missing in the game

It pretty much always existed, but it used to be a very rare thing. That's one of the reasons so many people are unhappy with the recent addition of so much true damage to the game; it goes against our previous understanding of how rare true damage should be.

Riot has a habit of doing that though. They explain something to us, and then a while later they change their minds. There's nothing wrong with that, but they forget to update us on their new way of thinking before the new design philosophy hits the game.

True damage may seem like a tank counter but it is actually a fuck u to squishies, and an fuck you to anyone who thought that as it hardly affects tanks in the first place lol.

you want to counter tanks? well build armor penn or a black cleaver or something. Tanks build primarily health now and have shit tons of health? Build damage then. What is that you say? In order to counter their armor you have to put so much into it that u either loose or have no room for damage? well ... then .....

Corki was the champion who had True Damage first. He did 10% additional true damage on his auto-attacks. Irelia and Olaf were the next two champions that had it, I believe. Vayne was introduced as a counter to the health stacking tank meta of the time. Master Yi and Fiora both didn't get True Damage until buffs/rework.

Vel'koz mana costs are really low. Any argument that relies on Vel'koz mana costs probably not the strongest argument in the world.
