Hey guys my favorite champion is Malphie top or jungle, Im curiouse how players build him too lane, I noticed new items where out and wondered if you guys used any. My usual build is Frozen Heart, Iceborn Gauntlets, Sunfire cape, ninja Tabi, omen and other a thornmail or a banshees. There is room for improvement.

Don't build item 3025 and item 3110 ... it's one or the other. As for what you want to build first item, it's almost always gonna be between item 3025 or item 3068 , unless you're facing an AP opponent.

As for me, personally, I like to build item 3025 before item 3068 (it depends on how the laning phase and game is going overall however) simply because of the CDR, but at the end of the day, it comes down to, do you want more dueling power or more Roaming power? I've always liked the roaming power more in solo Que, because as malphite, you aren't reliant on kills and your ganks are extremely powerful after 6 which is why I get item 3025 .

Because of this, as my boots I like to get item 1333 because it lowers your tp, and flash ults cooldown by a ton. It allows you to make tons of plays around the map, which as malphite, is what you should be doing.

Depending on your runes you won't have to get item 3065 and instead can go for item 3102 because it's overall a better item if you don't need the CDR. You get this whenever you think the enemy mage is starting to hurt.

As for what Armor options... well you can build anything you want, but after item 3025 anditem 3068 I like to get a item 3075 , especailly if the enemy AD's haven't yet gotten lifesteal, however, if the AP carry is fed you should wait on that thornmail and instead get your Banshee's.

Everything else is pretty situational, but basically, if it has armor it's a good option.

I usually rush Sunfire cape, or at least Bami's Cinder. I feel that thornmail is a very situational item, and your build is missing Dead Man's Plate.

Malphite builds can differ greatly based on what the other team has. I usually stack hard armor (Frozen Heart, Sunfire, Iceborn, Thornmail, Dead Man's, etc...) If the other team has heavy AD or lots of AA'ers. Zhonyas can also be very good, if you engage with R, hit E, then Zhonya's to get the target off you. Abyssal Scepter can also be good.

But, Letholas, as the Tank you're suppose to get targeted and attacked when you go in...... I suppose you can use it when you're about to die but other then that......

Malphite's primary stats in order are: Armor HP Cool Down Redution Magic Resist Ability Power Movement Speed

Items that give multiples of the high priority stats are: item 3068item 3111 item 3025 item 3065 item 3742item 3001 This a pretty strong malphite build, starting with sunfire cape to give him hp armor and wave clear, but you can start spirit visage or abyssal secptar for ap matchups. Iceborn gauntlet is his strongest synergizing damage item, and even if they are AP in all lanes but have just the adc, you will want one. You can swap merc treads for boots of swiftness if you are carrying or aren't worried much about cc. Banshee's veil is more of a situational item for when you are having trouble with burst or heavy CC messing up engages.

You can also put scaling cdr runes on him. if you want, since a large portion of his power is in his ultimate.

I don't play Malphite so I can't comment on him specifically, but I do play other tanks a lot. Look at the other Malphite players for specific build help, but I can give some general build advice on building tanks.

First off, having Frozen Heart and Iceborn Gauntlets in the same build is generally bad because even though you hit the CDR cap super easily and gives you two pretty strong passives, it gives you more mana than you actually need and gives you too much armor without giving any health, especially when you rush both items. This also doesn't include the fact that Frozen Heart's passive can be super situational early on in the laning phase if you are against a lane opponent that doesn't use auto attacks a lot.

Another thing to know about your build is that you have a lot of armor. This is really good against a comp with a lot of AD champions, especially on Malphite because of his armor scalings, but is somewhat lacking against a heavy AP comp. You have Banshee's on your list of items though, which is a pretty solid magic resistance item, while Spirit Visage is also a pretty good magic resistance item to pick up, and you might want to consider getting both against a heavy AP comp, especially if you are laning against one. A big part of playing tanks is that you have to reactively build your items based on the enemy team composition and your lane opponent, and understanding that and building Malphite accordingly will help you tremendously.

Finally, I want to touch on your jungle build. You don't mention Cinderhulk at all, so I assume the build you mention in the original post is for top lane. I just wanted to remind you to pick up Cinderhulk if you are going the full tank route because it's honestly too good of an item specifically for jungle tanks like Malphite to pass up. Also remember not to buy Sunfire Cape in the jungle when you buy Cinderhulk because their passives don't stack.
