There is zero counter play to it, and lets be honest if you require a ward to hop to so save your life you clearly made a mistake and should suffer the consequences like EVERY OTHER champion in the game.

There are at least 30 champions that can jump over walls without having to target a ward at all.
Ward-hopping is not the best form of mobility by a long shot. Things like Ezreal's Arcane are simply better.

It costs the trinket CD or a ward, which is more than can be said for the ~30 something champions that can just dash over a wall with a QWE skill.
Also - you're missing 1 key factor in those jumps:
They actually encourage people to purchase sight stones/wards and help provide map coverage :D
