Anyone Know How to Deal With Irelia?

Title. Does anyone know how to counter her, or at least have strategies to deal with her? Should I adopt a certain type of play style, or what? Currently, I enjoy playing bulky fighters in the top lane, such as Chogath Darius DrMundo Nasus Gnar , and, to a certain extent, Olaf and Fiora . Almost every time I go against an Irelia, I get wrecked very hard; if I play very aggressively, she gets a free two year stun; if I play defensively, she gets an item advantage and jumps me/bursts me down. I try to play according to what she builds; if she rushes BOTRK, I get lots of armor, and if she gets Trinity First I go for health. This still doesn't stop her from rolling all over me. The only time I had success with dealing with Irelia was when I played Olaf and Fiora, but even if I do beat her in lane she somehow gets back into the game and starts multikilling our team. So please, can someone help a fellow out in dealing with this champion?

She is relatively weak early-game and many bruisers and tanks can deal with her quite well when played appropriately.

I would probably recommend the following (assuming you know how to play them and the match-up): Nasus Darius Garen DrMundo Chogath Olaf Renekton Trundle

I have played Nasus against Irelia many times and it's pretty much a free lane. There is very little Irelia can do to stop you from hitting 400 stacks are 20 minutes unless you screw up horribly. At that point you should have Sheen + Frozen Heart and be strong enough to kill most champions in two hits unless they have stacked armor.

Irelia is pretty weak early-game compared to most of those champions. They should take advantage of their early strength to zone Irelia from the minion wave, denying her gold and potentially XP.

i'd suggest baiting her W and then disengaging until it's duration runs out before going back in, as she is very powerful in a fight with that true damage and doubled heal on-hit. Fiora seems like she would do well, as she has the mobility to do this easily, and her parry can turn that stun against Irelia.

alternatively, Nasus works well simply because you can stand around and farm, and your passive lifesteal mitigates her harrass. with him, you can play defensively and turn the lane into a farm lane and well, everyone knows how well Nasus does in a farm lane.

for more general tips, item 3111 helps with her eternal stun, and her damage is generally weak to health. armor isn't too useful due to the true damage she gets from her W. there isn't a whole lot you can do in terms of mobility, considering that if she kills a minion with each dash, she dashes as fast as Yasuo, but once she dashes to you there's an opportunity to escape. Fiora again does this well due to her ability to parry the stun, and then can dash away and kite her to an extent.

So basically, I should play an early game bully or a decent duelist to take advantage of her weak early game? I find that once Irelia puts around 3-4 points into her W, though, she becomes extremely good at dueling or something... the heal combined with the true damage really shreds my health early, since I usually have around 1kish health during this time.

Also, I played a game of Nasus vs. Irelia recently... and it wasn't pretty. I bullied her out of lane pre-6, but after her first back, the second she turned six she jumped and insta-gibbed me. I was running some armor but not a lot of health... so yeah, it's probably my fault >.>.

Also, isn't Randuin's better than Frozen Heart against Irelia? They both have the attack speed slow debuff, but Randuins also gives health, which counters Irelia's true damage, and its active can be used against Irelia as either a disengage or to run after her after she stuns you. Then again, Frozen Heart does help you get stacks faster... and thus do more damage.

The problem is, I usually play a melee champion top lane. The typical behavior that I observed is that Irelias tend to walk up to me and use her E to stun me, activating her W at the same time, and proceed whacking me, saving her Q in case I attempt to escape. This makes them zone me like crazy, and I miss lots of farm; eventually, she'll jump to a minion and then jump to me, finishing the job.

I have seen success with Fiora vs. Irelia, so I guess that the next time I see an Irelia I'll go Fiora. She still hurts like crazy though :/

Mercurial Trends had never crossed my tiny little mind... thanks for the tip!
