Why's it feel like the Community only likes boring champs?

For the longest time, a great deal of these forums has been devoted towards complaining about high skill cap champions, often citing their success in pro play as well as their mobility and outplay potential (which is why they're strong in the pro scene to begin with) while simultaneously turning a blind eye to the face-roll champions that are actually breaking the game.

As it turns out I rather like playing LoL, and it just seems like we're kicking ourselves in the shins when we keep nerfing interesting kits while letting the cancer-ball faceroll heroes go under the radar. It's absolutely frightening to me that this Forum would probably vote to see another Zed nerf before the living cancer champs like Annie/Jinx/Sej/etc are put in their rightful holes in the ground.

It just seems like there's something that makes the average League player hate interesting 'outplay' kits, but be completely chill with extremely powerful champions that are BORING AF. I just want to know what that "Something" is.

CLASSIC EXAMPLES:

LeeSin He's the forum's go-to "OP" jungler - despite the fact that he rarely breaks a 50% win-rate. He's been repeatedly nerfed, and is currently in a state such that unless he snowballs from early game, he's easily one of the most useless junglers in the game with low durability, highly conditional damage output, and low utility. When Lee gets the nerf bat, forum's response = "HELL ITS ABOUT DAMN TIME"

Zed This guy's next on the chopping block, despite rarely holding a 50%+ win-rate. His most 'hated' features are his laning safety, his manaless harass, and his kill pressure against squishy immobile mages (It's almost as if an ASSASSIN would be strong against a MAGE). He has extremely weak waveclear for a mid laner, has next to no utility, and often puts a solo queue team full AD which is usually a free loss.

I probably don't need to mention how happy GD is that Zed's finally getting the nail in his coffin. Thank GOD Zed's 'reign of Terror' is finally over.

Yasuo Had his 5 minutes (seconds, really) of fame, before getting nerfed repeatedly, and just recently received another nerf even though he's already trash and sees 0 competitive play and is rarely picked in solo queue except to feed. Yasuo is like China in WW2 - he's dying but nobody gives a shyt about him. Gotta save them Jews #whiteSupremacy

Leblanc Quick, kick her while she's down!

MEANWHILE:

Jinx Has been OP AF forever and only recently received a minor nerf 'that toootally killed her'. She's still picked/banned every game even after her nerf. I've personally made several attempts to mention how Jinx's free 130% AS, low cost AoE crit 750 range AA, ridiculous snowball potential, amazing split-pushing power, great come-back potential, extreme hyper-carry status, decent CC, and outstanding clean-up potential are most certainly game-breaking, but was always met with responses like "blah blah no dashes, blah blah so squishy, blah blah playing Jinx is so hard". I'm sure these are also the same meta-sheep who don't realize that late-game Jinx that replaces boots with Runaans can land a lucky triple rocket strike to deal 3000 AoE damage on a single target - more than enough to gib most squishies and win the game. All from 750 range.

Katarina Has been OP AF forever (Yes, even in Diamond. Especially in Diamond) Has only received small love-taps over her long long long long long long long reign as solo queue's Queen of Mid Lane. She's seen a slight decline in OPness due to tank meta, but I'm sure she'll be back.

Veigar Oh my god the Forum's martyr. I cri errytim. Veigar has been cancer and hidden OP for the longest of times, and I'm completely disappointed in the amount of community backlash Riot received when they reworked Veigar into a different YET STILL PERFECTLY VIABLE state. No, Event Horizon does not need to be instant-click-2-win stun for him to be strong.

TL;DR: Why does Forum hate high skill cap champions and adore face-roll heroes?

Honestly I agree with a lot of this, but this thread's gunna get downvoted to hell.

People like their 1 button wins, that's just how it is.

I don't think anyone (at least I know I don't) hate's Zed's ability to kill people, even if they're squishy.

If you die to him that's on you since you can probably prevent that, I just hate the fact that he's so safe doing it (in that, even if you escape with over half of your health, you almost never get the chance to strike back against him)

you mean zed does what hes supposed to do? be an assassin? ever seen an assassin? they go in kill someone before they react and leave like a shadow

Yasuo is also faceroll. If they make him combo champion who have to outplay to get kills, he will be ok. You now can just right click to death the enemies after just 2 items (I play him with 10 % crit runes). His only problem is that people hate him and Yasuo just gets camped whole game and feeds.

The problem with the champions that you mention people as hating isn't actually because they are "OP", but rather because they are extremely un-fun to play against.

The reason that people hate these champions is the fact that their kits tend to give them the ability to do something that the enemy can't really react to properly, or at least where you need much more skill to react than they do to act.

For example, LeBlanc jumps on you and deals damage. If you try to target her, she will jump back and avoid all of your skills; if you target her starting point, she can just choose not to go back there. It leaves you feeling that there wasn't really much you could do to react to her attack.

Something like Kalista is even worse - You are playing a champion who can't reach her, so you are not capable of making any plays against her. All you can do is hope to rely on your teammates and hope that they are not also playing champions who can't reach her.

Their kits may be complex and hard to learn, but once learned they allow you to negate the enemy's ability to use their own skill to outplay you. Each of your listed "complex champion" examples has the ability to completely shut down another player based solely on the matchup, because they hard-counter a subset of champions. Either the enemy is playing a champion that can deal with them, or they are not.

And yes, Katarina falls into this category too (which is why she is often banned and complained about.) Veigar, to a lesser extent. Most people don't argue that his stun was toxic, they complain because they took a huge amount of power out of his kit (reworked stun, removal of DFG) and they feel that they didn't give enough power back in exchange.

Jinx is overpowered, but even despite that I still usually feel like I have the ability to deal with what she does. Assassins and bruisers can still make short work of her if she's not too fed. That's why she feels less overbearing than those others. Numerically overpowered is much less frustrating to deal with than having a kit that prevents counterplay.

Sejuanni is banned in nearly every game. People still complain about her, but probably not as much since she's rarely seen due to the phenomenal ban rate. The same reason people tended not to complain about Kassadin too much at his worst, he was just banned all the time so no one played him.

I dont consider your "high skill cap champions" to be high skill cap, to be honest. Positioning is part of the game, and what you call "outplay" is what I call blatantly ignoring positioning and timing by abusing superior mobility. Typically I try to ignore it, but when people complain about champions with cc and point-and-click abilities you can't dodge because "lack of counterplay" (PSA: Zed's ult is PAC and makes him untargetable and gives him an escape. If you're about to cite Zed's counterplay with a list of items and summoners, then news flash: you can do that with cc mages as well. Counterbuild Annie just like you would with Zed).

It's the safety we hate for your supposed "high skill cap" champions, not the champions themselves. Almost any champion can faceroll (ironic you bring up Zed, but complain about other face-roll champions. Face-roll and mobility, best of both worlds eh?) and deal a shit ton of damage. Most of us deal with safe champions and learn to counter them just like the rest, but when people call them "high skill cap" when they're so safe... well, it's irksome. A Zed can escape a gank much easier than an Urgot could, yet Zed is "high skill cap." It's not a very convincing argument.

The "Community" is 90% Bronze and Silver who would love to see champs like Riven Nidalee gutted and champs like Darius Warwick significantly buffed.

  • Landing skillshots and animation canceling = cheating/OP
  • pressing R to win = true skill
YossarianSensei2 votes

The ironic thing is that Darius and WW are actually broken AF in Bronze/Silver

Meanwhile Bronze Lee/Zed/Rivens give their own team cancer

I swear these players are just complaining about what they're told to think is OP instead of just using their own eyes and brain

its pretty simple, the average player isn't skilled enough to take advantage of those interesting kits.

But then they wouldn't be asking for continuous nerfs

I agree with everything but Zed here. Though, right now Veigar's kit actually makes him a bit more divided between crappy and good users, he could still use a little less power. Zed, on the other hand is barely breaking a 50% win rate due to sheer popularity and being brought down only by people that don't know how to use him at all. It literally takes half a team to lock him down to any extent, otherwise he can free trade against anyone(save point and click damage champs) and get away unscathed only to do it again 5 seconds later. I don't think Zed has ever seen lower than a 50% win rate though, which still puts him on the higher end of the board.

Because killing Kalista with **Trundle **requires more skill then killing kalista with Zed.

That's not the skill of the Trundle, that's the lack of skill of the Kalista

What the hell is wrong with you? What sort of person tries to argue for the Holocaust being treated too seriously? Why even bring it into a LoL rant in the first place? Jesus Christ.

Its more about a point of the other genocides not being treated seriously enough

History pretty much ignores the Chinese genocide even though they suffered far greater losses than the Jews

That is a point very much worth making but I cannot get behind anything using "gotta save them jews" sarcastically. The Chinese genocide should have had much, much more dedicated to it but that doesn't mean the Holocaust was taken too seriously or should be made light of. The OP suggests that we should treat all genocides as the Chinese genocide was treated (i.e. treat them all badly, ignore the Jews) rather than treating them all with the same degree of seriousness that the Holocaust was treated with. And that is a really unacceptable thing to say IMO.
