Cassiopeia changes -- why this??
Why on EARTH did you change Cassiopeia? She was bad, but she was at least FUN. Cass excelled in one place, and it was a little situational, but at least it was fun! She could single target damage the hell out of people, but only if she is enabled by one of her skillshots. That's FINE. That's actually good design, to make the TARGETED ABILITY much less effective until a SKILLSHOT is landed.
Q's range was reduced, so she now has severely reduced poking ability against anyone but melee champions, and even then, those melee champions will be in range to teleport to her instantly and combo her to death. I like the damage increase, I like the clarity on her poison, but the range is DESTRUCTIVE. I would not mind reverting this ability entirely to its original state. There was nothing wrong with it.
Her W's range and slow are abysmal, early, and the restricted placement of it CRIPPLES HER MASSIVELY. Although she can sort of wall off entire lanes, or the river, with Rylai's... She now has no defense against assassins, who all have the unfair advantage of targeted gap closers. She could attempt to place the W where the opponent WILL BE, once Cassiopeia and the assassin get in range of each other... but since most of these gap closers have no cast time, this is often far before when the W even becomes active. Not to mention these easy one-shot assassins absolutely PLAGUE the midlane. (Zed, Katarina, Akali, Talon, even Kassadin, Ahri, and so on)
I love the idea of the Grounding mechanic, and I think a LOT of older champions need it, if you aren't planning on changing the effects of the mobility creep and the poor design that so many older champions suffer from. The mechanic is just on a TERRIBLY designed ability -- this W.
Also, it can't be used to scout. If Cassiopeia wanted to restrict a jump across a wall, she would aim the W against the wall. (if she had the OPTION TO) Why does it stop on walls? It just creates terrible situations where the whole thing is stuck against the edge of the opening to Baron or Dragon, or on the back of a dead tower. This also means it doesn't give vision when it's placed. WHY NOT? She honestly needs it! Please revert this ability, except for the Grounding effect. PLEASE revert this ability, except for the grounding effect.
Add to this her new passive, which isn't terrible on paper. It unlocks a free item slot, but it restricts her movement. She can get a good lead on the opponent early with the way it scales currently, but she does not reach maximum movement speed until FAR into the lategame, and cannot reactively increase it beforehand. This makes enemies with a lead on her get THAT MUCH MORE of a lead, and basically negates her free item slot. It's a "the rich get richer" scenario, which is all too prevalent in League.
Then, her E... Its damage is boring. Its interaction with Q and W is lackluster, and does not feel good anymore. I know, you'd like her to be an AoE poison mage and have kiting ability, but with the new W being only good for chasing, and the Q and E having such huge mana costs, she really has no main source of damage anymore. Nothing hits particularly hard. Before, the Q and W sort of UNLOCKED her E's full potential, but now it adds a bit of damage to it, and does not allow for a better rhythm of casting. The current rhythm at all stages of CDR is frustrating to work with, but that may just be my muscle memory conflicting with reality.
Why. Did you nerf. Her ult? Cassiopeia mains wanted her ult to be given better quality of life, better use in general. It was a mess that, in a game with negligible turning speeds (why does amumu's ult stop you from turning to autoattack people), was easily reacted to and plagued with buggy detection due to its cast time. The ult is what should have been reworked, not the rest of her kit. But all you did was reduce its slow on averted opponents. That's just depressing.
She seems to be far more effective now as an APC in the botlane. I'm still getting used to the terrible damage on her E, so the CSing needs work, but I have high hopes for it to be slightly effective. I really do want to continue playing her, but EVERYTHING about her is frustrating now.
Edit: Yeah, the hotfix is coming. I know. But the ideas listed in the announcement are in the wrong place. Yes, she needs better mana costs and cooldowns. But she needs better range, and better ABILITY MECHANICS IN GENERAL. Don't commit to this horrible design.
