Urgot ulti is like a WAY BETTER version of Garen's ulti. It's one of the most broken anti-fun things in the game but Riot went with it anyway because "hehe xd new game mechnonics".

Urgot is simply unbeatable in lane , MATHEMATICALLY, you can't beat a champion with a spammable shield that builds phage and deals more damage than any bruiser while he's also RANGED.

Urgot has no weakness, and don't tell me "just gank him", that's not a weakness. His weakness is his poor teamfight presence thanks to him having a hard time killing ADCs , that's it. In lane he's unbeatable, mathematically.

Look, just try playing a lane bully such as Renekton into the broken "ShotGun Knees" urgot and you'll see what I'm talking about. You just don't have the damage output to deal with him, nor do you have the opportunity to deal with him, his shield is on too low cooldown, shields for too much and deals too much damage, then he flings you and mini-stuns you and just walks away while you're at 50% hp and he's on full hp since you can't all in him.

I've played against a guy and we were 2-2 in lane, equal, my Renekton that I spent over 2000 games playing, and his Urgot that he spent 30 games playing, he picked Urgot to counterpick me btw, next game he picked Maokai , same guy, this time he was the first pick and I got my Renekton, he ended the game 3-16, getting dived like 6 times, over and over again, simply because he didn't have his broken, EASY mode, UNFAILIABLE champion.

He out trades most top laners

noob31152 votes

Most? You mean every besides like 3 that are even more broken than him?

And it's not even that he out trades them, it's how easy he does it.

Like I had to spend so many years practicing different match ups, learning cooldowns, this and that, weaknesses, power spikes, but then Riot just throws in a champion like Urgot who gives ZERO fucks about any of that and just presses W while walking towards you AMAZING GAMEPLAY! No doubt.

And the worst part of that is ... You , as his opponent can't do SHIT about it. What, you gonna pray he had a seizure and can't press his W to auto-win every trade ever ? Nah...

There are champions that counter Urgot just like every other championYorick Tryndamere for example

He's right actually. They may not be a true counter but they do check him.

So when Tryndamere spins to reach urgot , and Urgot shields himself, does 50% of tryn's hp, and then flips him and walks away, what's Tryn gonna do ?

Why is Trynd even engaging on Urgot that's what he wants. Trynd beats him by outscaling him and not being able to die to his ultimate.

Yorick doesn't work. You 1-shot his ghouls while in W, so they do nothing. Trynda is a bit better, except Urgot should still win if no one use their R. Not 100%, but he has the advantage. And as soon as Trynda uses his R, he has lost, 'cause Urgot can R too in response and wait until the end of Trynd ult to reactivate.

The best counter to Urgot are late-game champs with better scaling that can survive in lane, ignore him, and be more useful later. Kayle, GP, Gnar, Nasus if he managed to survive, or most Tanks that are too durable for him.

Any half decent yorick can kill Urgot because of his wall. Maiden+ghouls+wall overwhelms Urgot. He can't w or en because of the wall either so he is trapped. I've played the match up from both sides and I main Urgot and yorick.

Urgot has no kill pressure on tryndamere as long as tryndamere isn't flinging himself into Urgot. With his ult tryndamere will kill Urgot before the reactivation. You can't fight him unless you happened to get the lead and bought armor.

Kayle, gnar, and gp are good picks. Nasus can be reasonable dealt with with items and not letting him stack up as much.

For Yorick, you can W inside the wall no problem. In fact, you have to W without Purge-ing Yorick to focus down the ghouls first, that's the trick. Once the ghouls are down, Yorick doesn't have enough damage by itself. I'm not saying that Urgot has the advantage, far from it, it's clearly a tricky match-up for Urgot, but I still wouldn't call Yorick a counter. Just an overall interesting skill match-up.

For Tryndamere, you have range and he doesn't. You have no kill pressure, but you can zone him out of CS just with basic attacks and that's enough. And if he does fling himself at you, as you said it yourself, you'll win. And even if things go sour, you don't even need to win against Trynd, you just need to be able to hold his split-push. If he tries to group, you'll be more useful than him in team-fights anyway. As long as you're not so far behind that he can dive you, you're fine, and with Urgot natural tankiness that's not hard. Trynd is really an easy match-up.

For Nasus yeah, it's not a great counter either, I did put an "if" in my sentence ^^ I'd say he's on the same level as Yorick. But I agree, I shouldn't have mentioned Nasus just after rebuking Yorick.

Trust me, he has weaknesses, Such as the fact more than 50% of his damage comes from his W combined with passive, once he blows through his W, he loses a massive chunk of his damage.

Also yes, Lane bullies such as Renekton suck major ass when playing into Urgot, Mainly because Urgot has better methods of counter engaging rather then engage since His E is very telegraphed, thats actually another pretty big weakness, his whole Kit is telegraphed.

Talking about the situation you described with the guy who Picked Urgot then Maokai, it makes sense. Urgot is a Counter to Renekton, so he should win lane, but Renekton is a good counter to Maokai, and thus it makes sense that would would Dominate him.

He is very beatable in lane, I have dominated other Urgots as champions such as Nasus, it just requires good knowledge of the matchup and How to play around Urgots weaknesses (Which are his Telegraphed kit and Most of his damage being packed into one spell).

item 3076 item 3047 is actually the best powerspikes you can get into Urgot. He deals no damage to you and kills himself with w.

TheRealistKirby2 votes

Pretty much just trying not to drop below the threshold. Healing, or just staying out of combat, Or maybe just investing in a GA. the most common counterplay is just staying behind allies or far enough away to dodge it once you get low enough for it to be a problem. It isn't meant to have any major counterplay; once you get that low, he kills you. End of story.

yonggon1 votes

right but then that counters certain runes that requires you to be a certain HP % in order to be used effectively like some top laners use.

TheRealistKirby1 votes

A lot of champions counter specific runes, that's why they let you change them in champ select. if you're going against an Urgot, don't pick that rune. just like how when I play against someone that's not going to poke me, I'm not going to use the biscuit rune. the regen is nice, but it's useless in that lane.

meowwow71 votes

tbh the biscuits are nice if you need hp or mana period

What if Garen's ult was a skillshot and couldn't deal damage to you above a certain health treshold.

yonggon1 votes

ya but isn't 25% of hp remaining? 25% is still a lot of health also garen's ult isn't a 100% kill if at a certain % of HP even chogath can't always kill even if there is the kill indicator because of different things and isn't a surpressor

And A Real Hiero1 votes

It still deals damage, Urgot's will completely lose out on the second portion.

Baron Barian1 votes

Two champs have hard counters to it, and it's stupid.

Gangplank's orange can let him break the CC.

And Trydamere's ult can be activated during it, which makes him unkillable.

yonggon1 votes

does clense work?

BeatzBoyFTW1 votes

Urgot's 2nd cast is Suppression, so Cleanse will not work. But QSS does.

yonggon1 votes

The other issue is its a globa; u;timate

BeatzBoyFTW2 votes

The 2nd cast is global. 1st cast has a limited range.

Jaspers1 votes

Agreed. I'll happily mention it over and over until people get it. I hate the ability, I think it's the worst one in the game.

As you can see, there is alot of counterplay to Urgot...

Sukishoo1 votes

Taric R too :)

DeathBurst1 votes

There are a couple different things you can do to negate Urgot R (Black Shield, GA, Kindred/Taric R, Braum/Yasuo wall, etc.), but that's beside the point.

Do you know how much damage his R deals? None, or close enough. The counterplay is not being below the 25% health threshold where Urgot can reactivate it and execute you, because if you're not under the threshold, that R is useless.

To be precise, Urgot R is 50 + 50% AD (rank 1) / 300 + 50% AD (rank 3). To compare: Garen R is 175 / 525 + a missing health ratio. Annie is 150 / 400 + 65% AP. Malphite is 200 / 400 + 100% AP. Not to mention that Annie's and Malphite's are AoE and much quicker than Urgot's.
