Which Champions would you like to see changed?

KuroCaliber·12/24/2017, 8:36:46 PM·5 votes·1,408 views

So I love theorycrafting new ideas for league as a hobby, so I was curious as to what the boards thought were champions that don't live up to what they promise. The two types of problems I see with champs are usually that they have boring gameplay, or that their gameplay is ok but doesn't live up to their theme. I'd make this a poll, but I have a feeling there are more than 10 champs that currently fit under one of these two umbrellas. So I'm asking the people of boards to give me a champion name, which problem they face, and some important things they'd like to keep if the kit was changed. These things could be a specific ability, or a theme that you'd like to see better explored. I'm not particularly attached to a champion, so I don't think I'm a very good judge of this. So Boards, tell me who you'd like changed?

Edit: Please talk about champions that you play. It's a lot easier for me to get information when you know the champ very well, rather than only what you experience by playing against them

He’s a playful trickster, but let’s be real. He isn’t fooling anyone.

His W is a short lived clone that telegraphs where he is going and when it is used.

His passive is useless in lane, and pretty garbage on team fights still. The amount of armor and magic resist he gets in the average fight is negligible.

His Q and E are both point and click abilities. If he is snowballed, you can’t outplay him, and his version of outplaying you is appearing out of nowhere to one shot you with no chance but a split second reaction from Janna or some beefed up item 3190 . Did you manage to live for that moment? Well GJ bc Wu is now worthless.

Even after a successful dive on the carry, that’s it for him. He’s now going to roll over and die because he has no way out. The only chance he really has is for your team to fail and not turn around and kill him real quick.

His mana in lane runs out in just a couple trades, and he has no poke to work with. It’s basically all or nothing. Why? Because he also has 0 sustain or shielding, so when he goes in to poke or trade with over half the roster, they can sustain back while he’s still in the crapper.

item 3047 cuck this monkey like nobodies business. He relies on short burst trades or all ins, but they’re auto attack based. Pick these bad boys up and he now does nothing until he can get to a carry.

You can’t build him tank because outside of his R he offers nothing. No utility, low base damages with massive AD scalings. It’s almost as if they weren’t sure what they wanted this monkey to be. He just a mix of a diver, an asasssin, and a heap of garbage all rolled into one.

Speaking of AD scalings, Wukong does have some good ones, but I feel like his base damage could be higher and come online sooner. The monkey has a garbage ult at level 6 in terms of damage with a ridiculous spike at level 2.

With that said, I do enjoy him and wish they’d do something new with him. I love his W and feel like it could be expanded on, and I also of course love his ult. He has some great qualities, but he is severely lacking in many areas. I suppose because of item 3147 they just refuse to touch him. That one item props his winrate up enough to justify leaving him as is I suppose.

For one bard

His damage for a "utility support" is absurd simply because the rest of his kit is a gimmick

Increase all of his mana costs by 20 but make his passive refund 20 mana per hit. This makes it so if he is correctly comboing his mana costs are 20 less but if he isn't comboing they are 20 higher.

Honestly I don't think anything short of a full VGU can save him. He's outdated and janky as hell, and is broken or useless by the state of the jungle more than any other factor.

Darius Pick lane bully or late-game teamfighter already Riot.

He's split between two identities: the lane bully from pre-rework and the new fantasy Riot wants him to be of some teamfight massdunker.

I actually made a big post awhile back about her and what changes I would make.

Basically she has an identity crisis right now. Most people prefer the assassin playstyle; however, riot clearly believes her place is as a diver and sustained fighter (like irelia / vi). So while she has high upfront damage - it's currently too high. She's gated pre 6 into shoving and trading off early CS to sustain a powerspike at 6, where she can then use her mobility to bring her core damaging spells to the enemy (passive + W + R).

Since these spells hit at once it creates a bursty play pattern. She needs high ap ratios to succeed because other divers outclass her job.

My proposed fix to remove burst damage in a nutshell:

Split Q up into two casts, clockwise and counter clockwise. Half the damage on each cast and create a 1 second delay between each cast. This will allow diana more outplay potential while keeping the full Q damage for jungle clears and waveclear, without bursting her opponent open with one skillshot.

Put either a delay on W or reduce the damage of the ability (maybe have her W "fall" from the sky).

For her E ability swap it with her ult. Give her access to roaming earlier, and reduce the damage on it at early levels, adjust ap ratios slightly.

For her R make it her E but add some extra benefits.

  1. Make the range larger
  2. add a grounding debuff around the radius
  3. give her MR / Armor for each target hit for a few seconds.

Her passive imo can remain unchanged. The base damage is low early, and even if she were to build ap she won't be oneshotting since her full ratios are broken up on Q/W, and dash damage reduced.

Yaskamasandwich12/25/2017, 6:30:45 AM1 votes

Several champions, Nunu needs one badly. If he's viable he becomes jungle Satan or he is useless.

Sejuani needs a revert or rework. She is no longer the late game champion but just a early game stun bot. She relies on her passives, andd gets countered easily by QSS.

Mordekaiser is filled with bugs and is considered the most failed rework.

I know Ryze rework is a joke at this point, but I think he just needs one ability change. Ryze doesn't need a huge rework but should not have a point and click snare. Fix that and the fall out after then he should be good to go.

Fiora because having the design of "should be able to out duel everyone because of her lore and title." Is in no way healthy at all. Jax was nerfed for this exact same reason and for the exact same problems. Especially with top being a solo lane.

Cho'gath needs a major rework. Come at me League of Legends community for what I'm about to say. ... Cho'gath is not a Vanguard (tank), he is a Mage Juggernaut. A Juggernaut that builds AP instead of AD. However since his changes and buffs he isn't building AP at all. His ultimate is the most overloaded ability in the entire game. It gives permanent HP, damage is boosted by bonus HP, deals true damage, and since it's an ultimate ability his base stats and scaling stats are unaffected. He used to build Rod of Ages, and what not, sometimes even Deathcap. Not anymore all he needs Is HP to deal damage now. Why pick any Juggernauts, Vanguards, hell even Divers and Assassins right now when this guy exists? He's an Abomination that does all their jobs. He may lack mobility but right now he is a jacked up honey badger on steroids, and honey badger don't give a shit.

Kindred needs a major rework. Right now Kindred is a she, not a they. Wolf is just a tagged on ability. Something needs to be done to make wolf more intractable like change Kindred into a transformation champion possibly. However that is a dangerous move since it was tried on Quinn and it was a colossal failure.

The list can keep going but should probably stop now.

I know it's an unpopular opinion but honestly she just needs buffs. I loved playing her mid lane but ever since the mage update she was nerfed into support. The main issues really are a lack of any sustain/defense as she is incredibly squishy, other mid lane mages make up for their squishiness, Lux has her shield and LeBlanc has her ability to essentially teleport around. My idea is that as a passive on her W, that when ever a plant created by a W seeds, not a passive seed, is killed, she gains a small amount of health. Aside from that, her damage is fair, but could use a little boost, and her E's root duration is to short to be reliable.

Aatrox I love this guy. His playstyle is exactly what I want. HOWEVER His theme is supposed to be this dark hero who appears in the midst of battles to change the tide, however while he fills his allies with rage and strength, when he leaves they are left to be driven to madness because of the atrocities they have committed. So, to put that into terms of what he SHOULD do in game, he should be able to jump in, power up his teammates and then leave when the deed is done. But currently is the most boring and useless drain-tank in the game. His play style is supposed to be the quintessential drain tank. But he doesn't drain very well, and he doesn't tank very well, and he doesn't really do much of anything other than be unbelievably dominant if let to get ahead. From my person experience with him (and I have quite a lot), he really can spike very hard and win his lane and the game if he gets a first blood, and that point he will just out scale and out heal anyone who tries to fight him. By the time he's taken the first turret and probably gotten a kill or two he can start roaming and just shove lanes through until he's so strong he can fight most of team. With damage creep and the amounts of CC available on nearly any comp imaginable, he literally does nothing except sit there and farm and probably not die, but definitely not do anything helpful either. They need to decide what he's gonna be. Is he going to be a drain tank who feeds off the enemies health, or is he going to be a support who jumps into fights and turns it around at a crucial time, but then disappears once the fight is over? Personally I would enjoy the first option more, but the second option delivers on his theme and story better. His Q needs to be adjusted. Maybe a faster flight time and a larger radius? Or maybe make him invulnerable while flying in? I'm not quite sure what would be best, but something needs to be done. His passive should do something to make him feed off the enemies. Some kind of draining. The revive is cool as hell and needs to be kept regardless. That's 100% a part of who Aatrox is. It's part of what clearly defines him as Aatrox. Ya kill him, and he just keeps coming back. However, the power up once his blood well is full doesn't feel right to me. I preferred when his passive gave him attack speed for hurting himself. That was pretty cool and actually very useful when used correctly. His W is perfect I think. It's unique, not useless, and fits him very well. Definitely something else that needs to be kept in some fashion. More damage and more heals? Maybe, but that could get way out of hand. Maybe make it a little weaker to start, but it gets stronger as his blood well fills? His E is pretty... boring. I mean it's interesting because it's the only skill shot in the game that narrows like that, but the slow isn't much. The damage is actually really good poke in lane, but it's hard as shit to land against any competent player. I don't really know what to do with it. It could get gutted and reworked or just buffed. I'm not quite sure.

But now let's explore what he could do as a support rather than a drain tank. I think right from the start, as a support, he would be an initiator and a healer. Rather than his healing be direct like Raka or Sona, it would be more of stealing the enemy teams health. He wouldn't be the best at either, but he would be good at both. So his Q would definitely stay. It would be a stunning way to enter a team fight, and is great for catching out of place targets, escaping, or initiating. If he was a initiator type of support, he would need some way to really get in, because against any competent team they can just CC him out of the air and now it's on a long ass CD. His W would probably stay as well, but have some way of assisting his team mates. Maybe a certain percentage of health stolen from enemy champions would be returned to his lane mate or whoever his closest to him? That could be super OP in lane and then might not benefit that much in team fights as he would probably just be healing any other thanks or initiators, but then again he could be healing up melee fighters or assassins. So I'm not sure how they could get balanced out, but something like that would be interesting. The damage option could just stay the same, but use his health to deal the extra damage. His E could actually stay the same as a support, or it could be reworked into something entirely different. I was thinking maybe some kind of steroid for his lane mate, but I think that would fit better on his ult. Maybe something like it slows enemies, but if it runs through an ally it speeds them up? Not a huge boost because that would be crazy, but a small boost like 10-20% or something might be nice. I don't know how or if that could be balanced, but it's food for thought. His ultimate should definitely have the AoE damage, and probably give any allies caught in the AoE extra attack speed and maybe life steal for a short duration (somewhere between 3-5 seconds would probably work best), and the more his blood well is full, the more damage it will do and/or the more potent the steroids are. His passive is where I feel changing him to a support would get the trickiest. If he is a support, should he be able to revive still? It would nice and gimmicky, but at that same time it could get quite overcrowding if you have this support who you have to kill twice. His revive is conditional right now, which is good. It should be conditional, it shouldn't be literally every life, that would be stupid, but how could you balance a self revive on a support? Zilean can give a teammate a GA for a short time, and the timing is what balances it out, but what do you do when this tanky initiator dies, and then comes back, and continues to keep draining health from your team? I really don't know what you would or could do there. The blood well can be a good thing for a support. He could have the ability to drain it and give it to his allies, but make it harder to fill up. You could make it have a choice to it as well, if its full he could give the health to a teammate, or he can use it empower his abilities and thus give greater boosts to his allies. OR you could make it very binary, and go one way or the other. This could also help balance the revive. If he uses his blood well, he can't revive. So there he has three choices on it now. He could heal an ally, revive himself, or boost his allies. That would be cool and unique.

Overall he's in some serious need and Riot needs to decide what they want to do with him and who they want him to be.

Ahri : Need a better kit with higher risk/higher reward system. She's a fairly close range mage that expose herself in order to do full damage but even in full damage it's not really worth the trouble right now. However, she's one hella safe laner so maybe take away some safety net and put in more damage?

Sona : Personally I think she's in a weak spot, but not too weak. However, this champ's been trouble from the start and her kit's really hard to make it satisfying in terms of balance. Needs some look-into work.

Twitch : My goodness I don't think I can handle this guy any longer. I don't care about Vayne, Yasuo, Zoe or any other board's infamous champions; this rat is the most "!?!?!?!" champion for me. I don't want to write too much about how I despise his kit but please make his playstyle riskier if his reward is that great (or lower the damage output, either way).

Varus Ezreal : I swear last time I checked these two were supposed to be the poke adcs that do damage from afar and supposed to be less powerful in 1v1 situations. Nowadays I feel like these guys have it all: Far range poke, close-range damage, high dps damage. I must have skipped a season or something because it's almost overnight (for me) that they can 1v1 any other adc. I'd love to see them be a high range poke oriented adcs again with primary builds to be something that supports that ability instead of standard fighting adc itemization.

He has some good potential for some cool mechanics that he doesn't quite live up too currently. one thing I'd really love to see is being the premiere clone maker, able to make multiple clones as that's technically already his thing (thought not very apparent) and something that no other champ has as a mechanic. Shaco and Leblanc can make clones, but only Wukong would make multiple at once.

If you want to take a swing at Mordekaiser. Feel free

His Foes should feel the inevitable grip of death as he menacingly walks them down. It feels like all these hypermobile & ranged champions laugh at Morde because he walks so slow

Right now he feels like a wet paper bag (not durable at all) which is especially great when you're getting poke out by 1 or 2 autos.

He should be a Late game champion but with how the marksmen are so op right now he's not
