How come Caitlyn's winrate is the lowest among ADCs?

It lists Caitlyn's winrate at 48.09%, a good .6% below Kog'Maw. When she was reworked, it seemed like her kit had been improved rather than made worse. Her lategame headshots are devastating, and I've one-shot crit ADCs out of the game even (2300 damage crits flat-out obliterate). So I'm rather confused, how come Caitlyn's winrate is so low?

It was pointed out to me in a game last that I "shouldn't play Caitlyn" because "she's trash now", but I still find her a very good champion. I just want to understand why Caitlyn's winrate has plummeted so deeply, when her rework looks like it should've improved her by emphasising her strengths.

I mean, it was even a CertainlyT rework, so I half-expected her to blast the competition out.

I do find her laning phase to be weaker than before, and my headshots don't feel in the slightest impactful until I have infinity Edge. I don't think that alone should warrant such a low winrate, however, because generally Caitlyn is safe enough to avoid permitting the enemy to snowball. An advantage Kog'Maw doesn't have.

Any expert Caitlyns/winning ADCs able to shed some light on this?

One problem now is that that is seems that Caitlyn has been "replaced" by Jhin, because he has abilities similar to her that have better range and damage. She still has her good points, to be sure, but she will not be played much unless there is some kind of change made.

I think Jhin and Caitlyn still have a strong difference in gameplay profile (Caitlyn gets to attack fast, Jhin doesn't), though I agree it feels like they took Caitlyn's fantasy (long-range zone control sniper) and then made Jhin fit the exact same fantasy; both have a slow, both have a long-range skillshot, both have a sniping ult for use before or after (but ideally not just during) a teamfight, and both use traps to zone the enemies and get themselves safe.

Jhin feels like he does the long-range sniper thing a lot better (and even his short AA range is just average), but I think Caitlyn being able to get attack speed still makes her very distinct from Jhin's fixed-per-level attack speed.

CertainlyT actually ended up nerfing her. In exchange for the headshot mechanic, everything else got nerfed.

  • Scales worse with AS
  • Lost Armor pen
  • Traps are less consistent
  • Net is smaller, with less knockback
  • Her Q.

It could be just because her place in the meta is gone, where Lucian / MF just do more damage, faster, and generally better. Honestly, she just feels really weak right now. Her E-Q is almost melee range, instead of her main poke combo. Her traps seem a lot less effective, harder to use defensively.

Because every time they ask Caitlyn to do her job as an ADC, she goes on some whack Blues Clues search bullshit and gets caught out.

Because people got sick of hearing "head shot" over and over late game so everyone quit her.

She's a really good champion. She's just outshined by MF, Ez, and Lucian in the early and outscaled by Vayne and Trist in the late.

She's a good "beginner" marksman. She's very safe, and she can cs under tower without a lot of fear because of her traps. New players tend to pick her up and play her to learn mechanics, then switch to another marksman when they have the basics down. Since a lot of newer players play her and move on when they improve, her winrate tends to suffer a bit. It's not a bad thing, and Cait can do very well in the hands of veterens.

She's in a similar boat as Garen.

wow, yet still Caitlyn gets picked in the LCS and Kog doesn't. I wonder what that means for either of them?

My only concern is that her Reworked head shot was based on her Traps primarily, and then her net, to increase the range and damage it dealt. While this does help accomplish her Sniper fantasy, people are getting smarter at avoiding her trap based gameplay. People are figuring out how to play against her.

That shouldn't affect the moment. Jihn isn't even released yet.

Right, Caitlyn is not a bad champion. Unlike Kog'Maw, she's safe in lane and can poke or easily CS from a distance. She has the E to dodge some skillshots, with traps can foil some ganks... Whereas Kog only has that slow in his E.

It feels like Caitlyn reaches a useful state much quicker than Kog'Maw and should have a higher winrate, but for some reason she doesn't. Is it really just people figuring out how to play against her?

Her damage has always been low - her damage now is clearly the worst next to maybe sivir.

The changes to item AD and armor penetration hurt her for much the same reason it hurt Sivir. She lost too much in exchange for the new Headshot mechanic in much the same way Kog lost too much in exchange for the double attack speed W. They'll probably get compensation so that they can fill their respective niches without feeling awful.

Problems with caitlyn and why some stuff jhin got shoulda been caitlyns

  1. Caitlyn can't decide between being an AA or an AD caster type adc. She has her E->Q->AA combo but her passive isn't a "Filler AA" type but takes persistent AA to activate and including cait has no decent AS steroid makes it even worst. Unlike corki/mf/lucian/jhin/graves. Jhin's Ammo but gains AD for AS and Crit shoulda been also for cait but she could keep her ignore 50%(Maybe more) bonus armor on the 6th and final shot instead of missing HP jhin has on 4th. (Last 2 shots could also have 50% more range for cait too)

  2. Cait's Traps should have worked more like Jhin/Nid and been either stealthed or harder to see with a large radius to activate

  3. Cait's Net should have it's Speed increased, Range Increased and Distance traveled increased at least back to the old amount it was. For cait who relies on E->Q->AA her net is too unreliable

  4. Her ultimate is just bland damage which doesn't even scale with crit or have another effect tired to it. It's decent since the CD is moderate but it should have crit scaling for something blockable by anyone and those who block it, unless the entire enemy team is squishy, won't be too affected.

  5. Jhin's Passive is cait 2.0, Jhin's traps while not being as immediate are stil cait 2.0 since they can land more often, and Jhin's ultimate are Cait 4.0. I don't want jhin nerfed or changed at all don't get me wrong. Also if some changes were made to cait to make her more jhin-like since that would make them carbon copies, however jhin just does what cait wants to do. So cait does need some type of change.

  6. And I forgot to mention her "Range" means nothing since it's gated by 2 hard to land skills (W and E) and because of this jinx and trist have it better (Although trist does what jinx does but better)

Cait is a common newbie adc since she's reletively easy. Maybe the newcomers lose its her a lot?

Xeinn1 votes

I really don't buy this anymore. MF is clearly the noob ADC for preseason/s6. Love tap makes her one of the easiest ADC to last hit with and she has a point and click Q, a very easy to use E that slows and a nice MS/AS buff.

Mcprowlington1 votes

Lots of people are saying it's because Cait is the "newb adc", and new people picking Cait drags her winrate down. But Champion.gg shows that even those with 125 games as her don't budge 50% on average, that seems pretty problematic.
