Demoted from Silver 5 to Bronze 1

So, can someone clarify how someone can get demoted from Silver 5? Some of my friends tell me that the only way to get demoted is to be inactive for 28 days, but I remember getting demoted to bronze a long time ago so that isn't true.

Other people say that you have to have the mmr of an entire tier below you, (Silver 5 has to have mmr of Bronze 5) and it sounds logical, but I would like someone to confirm that if it is true.

I have searched for answers on the internet but wherever I go the answers seem to be completely mixed.

Just curious that if I manage to climb to Silver 5 how easy/hard will it be for me to get demoted back to Bronze 1. Thanks to anyone who answers.

You have to be a whole tier mmr below you which means you have to lose A LOT of games. (like you said, Bronze 5 mmr)

If you win your next few games you should be put back in a promotional to Silver 5 which should be easy. But you can't lose otherwise you will lost a TON of LP and it will be super hard to catch up. I recommend staying away until you are absolutely sure you can win.

You demote if you drop down to 0 LP, then lose another game. You have a few games where you can lose and not demote just after finishing placements, however, if you say, win 1 game after your placements, then lose enough to drop to 0 LP again, then lose another game, you demote. Inactive decay will never happen if you are below (not sure what the minimum rating is, but I would like to say plat) and that can decay you divisions. However, an inactive decay will never decay you past the maximum rating you can be to not start decaying in the first place (gold 1, if memory serves me correctly). They've also changed the inactive decay system to be that you store games played as the number of days you can go without decaying, up to 10. So, for example, a challenger player plays 10 games in 1 day. He can go 10 days without decaying now, but after that he starts to decay. If he plays another game 5 days in, he now has 6 days to go without decaying.

i dont believe its a full tier below i think its about 3 ranks so your mmr would be around Bronze 3-4

The best way to tell how your mmr is based on the amount of LP you get per win 20-23 is good MMR 18-20 is okay but shaky MMR 16-18 your are definitely in danger of being demoted if you haven't already been demoted

Correct, you have to fall to Bronze V MMR. I got demoted from Silver V to Bronze I once when I went on a terrible losing streak. It's pretty tough to do but if you get unlucky/tilt enough times in a row...

I honestly did not expect that many answers so quick. Again, thank you to those who answered. I was just curious because in the past week I have climbed from bronze 4 to bronze 2 trying to get to silver before the season ends. And I was worried that I might get to silver, then immediately go back to bronze after a couple of losses.
