Is shen good?

With the fact that galio has essentially a shorter range shen ult (minus the shield, but grants resistance) that also has an aoe knockup, dmg, and very good cc. Is there any reason to pick shen?

Despite being low elo. I'd like to argue my Shen stats are fairly decent. 3.0KDA and 54(?)% winrate. Shen right now is fairly underrated after the power redistribution he received on the last changes that came at him. They removed some of the upfront power on his Q autos towards non-champs which hurt his waveclear a little - His jungling was compensated with double damage to monsters. However with the sunfire changes the waveclear hasn't taken that large a hit.

That being said the ultimate change is what most high elo players are upset about - Now the shield strength varies on %missing health rather than being a flat amount; this somewhat hurts his playmaking potential but makes him better at turning around fights at the last minute.

I tend to play our boy in a somewhat unconventional manner - I run %HP runes with Armour, AS and AD with Fervor of Battle and play him as a duelist in the laning phase - Often grabbing first blood vs opponents surprised by my damage then transitioning into a big fat tank lategame to which I would argue I'm finding some decent success with.

Overall he's pretty decent at a few things but most of the time he gets outclassed by other tanks ~~cough~~ Galio ~~cough~~. If you have love for the Eye of Twilight pick him up and stick with him, but if you care about FOTM and meta I wouldn't bother unless other more popular tanks have been banned out.

Yes, because you like his kit and how he works. All champions are "good" as long as you're not some diamond 3+ player. And even then people have made champions that aren't in the top 20 work.

I've been playing him in the jg. Just get whatever smite you want, then tiamat, then cinderhulk, then titanic, into full tank. It's been doing alright.

Make sure your team understands what shen does. the W is useful against auto attackers, and with tiamat auto resets you can get off a decent burst with q, and your ult of course is great for splitpushing, since you build titanic hydra, you can get into the teamfight easily

edit: i've been spamming him in soloque jg, and having great success.
