Why is riot avoiding urf?
Seriously, they wont mention it at all. When talking about how they keep bringing poro king and ascension back they say its because their working on modes, yet urf already works on the new client.

Because Riot hates fun.
My take. Because urf gets boring fast to a lot of folks. Riot has to balance individual champs to keep it fresh, its a lot of work for 2 days of fun followed by excessive amounts of complaints.
My solution, go the way of War craft 3 and improve the Custom game modes, make Urf an option as well as a few others that don't take much work.
Thats the thing, its only 2 days. So if it gets boring fast it doesnt really matter. It could go, Poro king, ascension, dark star, urf, bloodmoon, doombots. Or in some other order. (im doing this on the assumption it will only be one weekend for each mode, not 2) it would allow each mode to see its time.
But there's AR URF, which needs a lot less balancing since more like ARAM, which is a permanent game mode that tons of people find fun despite the random champ select. Same thing seemed to be the case with AR URF last time I played it judging by queue times, but we really can't know unless Riot talks to us about it.
Also, some of the ideas people have had on the forums seem pretty baller, such as the randomized bloodmoon style champion pool limitation each champ select (with bans). Much easier to ban all of the super OP's in the current pool, then everyone selects out of the decent ones remaining. And each game will have a different pool, so lots of different champions seen, as well as a gurantee of being able to pick a favorite champion at least some of your games unless it's a perma-banned one like Sona or some such.
Maybe because it's not fun?
how is urf not fun?
how is urf not fun?
It was explained earlier in the thread. Seeing the same champions over and over again takes the fun out of the mode. Seeing Zed, Sona, Hec, Mundo, Annie, Brand, Fizz, and maybe even Fiddle over and over again isn't exactly something I'd consider "fun".
And "All Random" URF kinda has the same problem ARAM sometimes has; very one sided teams.
On average I found the AR URF teams were usually competitive against one another. Yeah, every few games it'd be a predestined stomp, but most were relatively fair. This is especially true since you couldn't afford to reroll when you had a decent champ to try to get some super OP like Sona, since there were at least as many garbo URF champs as broken ones, and even more middling champs than either. Which meant that most games were filled with a couple to no garbage champs, lots of middling ones, and no to a couple broken ones. Such games usually seemed quite fair.
HA HA HA very nice explanation of what fun means to you :) Everyone i know including myself plays urf and arurf 24/7 when its up and we find it fun and never get bored so again speak for yourself dude
'everyone you know'
Except there are plenty of people in just this thread saying otherwise, and you feel the need to respond to all of them to try and shut them down as if that will change anyone elses opinion.
I can argue that Poro King isn't fun either.
I think what the OP is saying is Urf ALREADY WORKS with the new client, It, Poro King and Acsension all work. So why is it we get Poro or Acsension 4 weeks in a row? Wouldn't it just be ya know, not stupid to rotate between the 3 until other ones start to work, and new ones come out?
Also Doom Bots works as well. Blood Moon as well.
There is like 5 game modes that work just fine already, so Riot reeally doesn't have much an excuse to just repeat those two only all the time.
Yes, urf ALREADY WORKS. Back during the beta of the new client we had ARURF on it. FIVE MODES, and we still have the same 2 ALL THE DAMN TIME.
The more they let us play URF, the more we end up hating it.
They don't want us burning out on URF.
We haven't had it in RGM since May 2016, it's been 14 months. Pretty hard to burn out on something you don't even get to play.
And speak for yourself, I never burned out on it.
We had ARURF, which is about as close as I think we're going to get. The problem with regular URF is people just spam a few champions and it makes the gamemode boring.
It's a game mode intended for fun. I saw a bigger variety of champions in URF than I do now in ranked.
Besides, with "10 bans" in place now, I don't think it would be that big of a deal.
Speak for yourself. I loved, and always will love URF. ARURF on the other hand is the hated one.
Besides, tell me the last time you played URF this year. Exactly, you can't, cause we never even had it in all of 2017.
Probably because it's a boring game mode.
It's an incredibly fun gamemode with certain flaws that cause some people to think it gets stale after a few games, and some to spam as many games as they can fit in a day. Regular URF gets a repetitive meta, although the bans and number of strong champs make it not as bad as people usually say. AR URF has that random factor, so some of the games are determined in champ select, which in my experience was significantly less than half, but negativity bias makes it seem like more.
Basically, some people loved it a crazy amount, while some people played it a couple/few games then gave up and thought it was cancer. We have no way of knowing how many people fall into which category though without Riot talking about it, since we can't get reliable stats. We can make polls on the forums, but that's subject to selection and volunteer bias. Same thing for looking at number of threads or comments for or against it.
What I really want is simply for Riot to talk to us about it. Especially if they mention some of the alternative ideas the community has had such as Nemesis draft URF, or a randomized Bloodmoon style champion pool limitation each game (with bans).

This is basically why. they have to rebuild it.
we have had urf with the new client before, its already compatible.
And yet they explain why they don't release every mode all the time, while you sit here and and cry.
They said they have to rebuild the modes, otherwise we'd have darkstar again too.
Reading isn't your forte it seems
they didnt explain jack shit and jack already left
we have had urf with the new client before, its already compatible.
Wait, we did?
I see all these posts saying "its been 400 and x days since we last had urf"
Yet the new client was released only a few months ago.
Are these posts just plain BS?
it was during the beta.

How about
You stop following me around and harassing me on the boards
On a side note, if you think caitlyn is fine, make your own thread, dont piss off mine.

no, JamesTheMage15 feels harassed by your consistent negative attention. it is kind of creepy that you're using some other discussion as a argumentative device in this one, and honestly? it makes you a bully. This has nothing to do with whether or not you disagree- but instead everything to do with your negative mocking attitude, as well as stalking behavior thereof.
Yo just report him to an admin on the boards.
I'm gonna guess that URF is so popular that it cripples normals and ranked queue times because everyone spams URF while it's available.
Riot's silence on the issue is deafening, it's so strange.
If you look through Reddit, Youtube and the Boards it is very clear that it is the most discussed and beloved game mode of them all. It had the single highest level of engagement of all game modes, clearly it's the one that a majority of the playerbase seems to like the most. Despite this, Riot talks less and less about it to the point where they discussed RGM in an Ask Riot segment and didn't even mention URF.
I've heard of being tone deaf before, but Riot is tuning out the playerbase more and more it seems. Just because you're the most popular game in the world today doesn't mean you will remain that way forever----you can only ignore your playerbase so long before they start to find something else. It's already happening to be honest. The biggest decline in players occurred during Season 6 with the dynamic queue fiasco but it's been a slow bleed for awhile. It's too bad because it is a great game (with the worst community), but it's starting to become obvious that Riot doesn't really give two shits about what we have to say unless it's wrapped in a bundle of compliments.
Most of the playerbase is actually sick of URF, it's a vocal minority that wants it around more often.

Right back at ya.
So, the translation is that you don't have any evidence.
Mine is in the amount of social engagement on Reddit, facebook and here on the Boards. There are more likes and upvotes for URF related content than there are any other game mode.
If you look at various petitions on the old forums and here on the Boards regarding making URF permanent (not an idea I support but would like to see it again) you will notice hundreds or thousands of upvotes on each one of those threads.
When you go on the PBE during test for URF, other features and game modes are ghost towns with everyone play URF continually.
Just looking at some videos on youtube and browsing some that feature various game modes, any that contain URF almost universally have more views and likes than other game modes.
...and now it's your turn. I'll wait.
All I see is you making more claims while demanding other people give 'evidence'.
If you'd bother to look through any of that 'social engagement' I guarantee there would be significant amounts of comments talking about why urf sucks and shouldn't come back without significant changes or at all. That the players who love urf so much shut other opinions down so aggressively doesn't mean that they are the biggest or only group with an opinion.
No, it simply means they are the majority of opinion.
You're entitled to yours, but you still have yet to demonstrate that the "majority" don't like it. Meanwhile all I see are copious upvotes, views, likes, shares and whatnot regarding URF related topics, certainly far more so than Poro King, Ascension, et al.
You made a bold claim, you never backed it up, period.
It's simple, if you don't like the game mode, don't play it, others---such as myself--do like it. Wow, amazing everyone gets what they want.
Self selection and volunteer bias are a thing. Your personal view and anecdotes from the community you already are a part of and agree with don't change anything to someone on the outside. To hear anyone's opinions on politics you'd swear they were convinced that the majority is on their side and its only fringe wierdos who disagree - then they get shocked at how close things turn out on election night.
Also time and effort spent putting in one game mode is time and effort taken away from other things that they could be doing, like a different game mode or literally anything else.
And as soon as we get URF, the Boards floods even more with complaints about how stale and frustrating the mode is, since it devolves into the same 10-20 champions every game.
The reason we aren't getting URF is because the mode has major flaws. An obvious solution would be to go through and balance every champion and item in the mode to reduce the gaps in power level. However, that would be way too much work for a "for fun" mode, and would require continual maintenance every time something in the actual game changes. Riot tried to find another fix with ARURF, but that had satisfaction issues of its own, due to the randomness. The reason it hasn't come back since is because they are still trying to find a way to fix the mode without basically making an entirely new game.
Urf leaves already lacking regular gamemodes in drought or so i get but on the other hand i get people who surrender ranked games on my team less during Urf an more people who try without giving up.
how about, rather than not bringing a mode that subtracts from underplayed gamemode for only 2 days, they, i dont know, FIX THE GAMEMODE? TT has so many problems and has bots etc.
I have played thousands if games of TT including ranked flex and the previous ranked 3s teams system. Literally never encountered bots. I'm not a fan of some of the meta that exists in 3s but it does see occasional map updates and balance changes and is infinitely more healthy and sustainable a game mode than urf could ever be.
really. Last game i had i was the only real player.
Like I said, thousands of games. I doubt there are even plat+ level bots that could hang in the mmr. Maybe I'm lucky and started playing long enough ago (season 2) that I got past the mmr limit of bots early.
By lacking game modes i meant 5 min q timers because waiting for support. Really over 40 seconds seems to indicate that the system is struggling to match you which i believe is from less people actively looking for a match that previous seasons. I dont even think about T T.
"It keeps it to themselves, We wants Precious."
For real though, they would have to rebuild URF in the new client first. Until then, we'll just have to wait & play the other modes that they have already put in the Rotation for us. Honestly don't remember when the original URF was last seen, ARURF has been in rotation twice already I think. Only thing I ask is that they keep it on a two week rotation & not have the same mode for more the two weeks.
they dont need to rebuild urf. We've already had ARURF on the new client.
Although, they might well need to do a decent/large amount of work to make sure none of the new champions, items, etc. break in URF. Not to mention they'll have to do PBE testing as part of that, which might make it too hard to test other content they currently see as a priority such as Urgot's rework.
