Armor

item 3110 2600 gold item 3072 3500 gold item 3025 2900 gold item 3074 3300 gold item 3075 2300 gold item 3153 3200 gold item 3143 2700 gold item 3031 3800 gold item 3083 2500 gold item 3035 2300 gold item 3800 2400 gold item 3078 3703 gold item 3725 2250 gold item 3707 2250 gold item 3718 2250 gold

Incoming physical damage is multiplied by a factor based on the unit's armor:

Damage multiplier={100100+Armor,2−100100−Armor,if Armor≥0otherwise

Examples:

25 armor → ×0.8 incoming physical damage (20% reduction, +25% effective health).
100 armor → ×0.5 incoming physical damage (50% reduction, +100% effective health).
−25 armor → ×1.20 incoming physical damage (20% increase, −16.67% effective health).

At 100 effective armor you cut all physical damage in half. At 155 armor you have 100 effective armor against item 3035 At 170 armor you have 100 effective armor against item 3035 and the % armor pen offensive mastery.

Reinforced Armor devensive mastery + item 3047 +item 3143 = 10% flat damage reduction on all physical damage from auto attacks and 30% damage reduction on all critical strikes.

Tanks are taking a minor nerf, they aren't getting gutted.

Are you really comparing the costs of armor and damage items to prove that armor is better? Because that is exactly the problem...armor items cost little because they have terrible stats compared to what they used to have. Obviously it is very easy to rush a tank item compared to rushing a huge damage item. Let's say you are playing Jax top vs Shen...he will get his Sunfire Cape way before you get your Trinity Force or Blade of the Ruined King because it costs 2600 gold whereas Triforce costs 3703 and Bork 3200. So even if you are a kill ahead of him he will still get to his first item before you. The problem is tanks get tanky really fast but they scale terrible into lategame. One tank item usually beats 1 damage item but 5 tank items always lose to 5 damage items.

To solve this they have to increase the stats of items suchs as Sunfire, Randuins or Warmogs while also increasing their costs. That way tanks can't just rush that Randuins or Sunfire in lane and just ignore you in exchange for being useless lategame; instead they will be less tanky early in the game but actually have a meaning as the game progresses. At the moment there are only a handful of champs who don't get shattered to pieces immediately by a full item adc.

Are you high?

Tanks scale well into the late game, however ADC scale harder for the sake of closing out games.

If tank itemization scaled harder than AD itemization then games would drag on well past the 45 minute mark, probably past the hour mark.

Even then, at full build a tank doesn't get "shattered" by an ADC.

Two tank items are more than enough to surpass 170 armor late game, that means even with the offensive % ArPen mastery and item 3035 you still have 100 effective armor, cutting their physical damage in half.

A crit of 750 becomes 375 and even with 2.5 attack speed it would take 5.5 seconds, and that is with full crits.
Nevermind that ADC only crit half the time late game.

that is less than 1 cycle of most tanks skills even with 10% cdr. and you completely ignore the several other penetration items that and 1 doesnt even have to be on the adc for them to get the effect and the life steal that heals damage that adcs take

Kuroi862 votes

Aside from item 3071 and item 3035, penetration items are worthless against a tank with over 170 armor. And if you do the math, item 3075 still deals more damage through it's passive than most life steal items can handle and it's pretty hard to itemize around item 3153 while ignoring stacking AD.

LordGeovanni1 votes

you really only need 2 life steal items and elixer to bypass item 3075 's passive even with armor. item 3153 and item 3072 with item 2140 surpasses thornmails damage and are common on adcs along with item 3035 and item 3031. with a bruiser on the team that carries item 3071 and that is only armor cause the 2 items with high armor in the game offer no hp which you need also in order to survive along with mr to stop mages and assassins which you need over 120 for it to me remotely effective and you cant get all 3 and you cant get damage to compensate cause tanks are forced to have horible synergy with damage items but assassins can not even need damage items and build tanks . tank zed and ekko are strong.

Late game tanks have around 80-90 base armor, this means itemising for 160 armor to render both item 3071 and item 3035 moot and still have 100 effective armor to cut physical damage in half. This isn't counting runes and masteries lol.

Meanwhile double life steal sounds great on paper, but tends to be lacking in power due to either sacrificing crit or a necessary defensive item late game. item 3143 item 3102 or item 3026 because as a carry you're always going to be a prime target. If you don't need that defensive item for your sixth slot, then your team is awesome.

you cant get damage to compensate cause tanks are forced to have horible synergy with damage items

Tanks aren't meant to require damaging items for their builds, their innate damage and CC are typically enough. Bruisers need some built damage, not tanks.

tank zed and ekko are strong.

Vs squishies, tanks and bruisers are going to laugh them off.

Always funny how Bronze people ask me if I am high when I disagree with them lol.

Because that is exactly the problem...armor items cost little because they have terrible stats

This is the cause of that question. Armor items have good stats, they are simply not designed to fully counter the DPS/ sustain design around most AD items.

LordGeovanni1 votes

then there is absolutely no merit in building them as it is supposed to stop high dps in favor of causeing the damage to have to be done over time. that is armor's and resistances one main purpose across all champions.

Kuroi861 votes

Actually the purpose of Ar/Mr is multi-fold. It's not meant to stop DPS though. It gives you the stats to tank towers. The ability to take poke and shake it off. To peel an assassin off your carry without in turn getting killed yourself.

Armor is meant to weaken DPS, not out right stop it. And for what it's worth, it does a damn good job of it.

Tanks, indeed, are not getting gutted. Hardly actually. Dead Man's Plate replaced Randuin's Omen for best armor item for stats while Randuin's became an anti-ADC item. Frozen Heart didn't get too hard hit and Thornmail's change is just a shift of power for when and where the item is useful. Cinderhulk is hardly a nerf really. Small nerf. Warmog's change, in my opinion, is a big buff. 200% Health Regeneration and then 3% health per second when out of combat. Anybody with over 3000 Health doesn't ever have to recall unless to buy items or if they have NO mana.

manbearswine2 votes

God this is so dumb.

Tank items, and defensive stats in general protect you, they don't protect the rest of your team. So sure,in a 1v1 matchup tank items are supposedly stronger(which isn't exactly true,as they don't help you waveclear,or give sustain as strong as that of lifesteal,or take down obejctives),but when things get bigger than 1v1 damage prevails,as it helps kill targets fast before they can escape or their team can help them.

So yeah,tanks ARE being gutted.

Kuroi862 votes

While it's arguable whether it's a tank or bruiser item, Titanic Hydra will be a big aid in wave clear, aside from item 3068.

As for sustain, life steal is meant to be the strongest of them, though item 3083 really shouldn't be ignored in terms of sustain.

Tank items are meant to keep you alive long enough to do your job, that is to either engage and disrupt the enemy team or peel for your carry. The armor nerfs aren't going to prevent you from doing either of those just as effectively as before.

LordGeovanni1 votes

the cost of the item wasnt and isnt the issue even though ad items have better passives. the fact that stats that were not strong are being nerfed is.
