SoloQ: Caitlyn Support and Tristana Top/Mid
This is part statement part question.
The question part is about Trist. I really, really dislike her as ADC. Not just playing her, but supporting her or ganking for her. She just doesn't seem to be anywhere near as effective as most other ADC options. However, I love her kit and her ability to go AP or AD and still wreck turrets. Is there room for a trist top or mid? I haven't tried it yet as I don't want to waste 45 minutes of my time in case I hate it. Hopefully someone else has and can give input?
The statement part is about caitlyn. I've been trying her out as support in normals and it's been fantastic given the right team comp.
If you are a support main, I'd recommend trying this. If you hate support, I'd recommend trying this. With the tank meta rolling through, I've been seeing more and more team comps of 4 AP scaling champs + the 1 ADC. Enemy team builds MR, outlasts all the damage while they focus the ADC then finish the other 4 off. Having a support that scales well with AD can offset this imbalance. The other reason it's good in Solo Q is because you don't know if your ADC is going to be good or bad. A bad ADC is support hell. Another reason why APCs are used as supports so often. It's security against bad ADCs.
Why: Long ranged and annoying poke and harass. Free wards. Sightstone + red trinket + traps allow you to have amazing vision and vision denial, along with anti-ganking roots. These are the two most important things for a support early on. The traps and single target slow also give great gank denials and peel for your ADC. Of course, it's not the same as having Leona's triple stuns but the rest of caitlyn's strengths as a support will make up for this given the right team comps. And of course late game. Whereas most AP supports haven't changed much between mid game to late game, you have scaled into an off-ADC with the ability to quickly and effectively down turrets alone. AP focused top/mid/jungle (with exceptions such as rammus) will not be as effective at this, which is where your kit comes full circle.
