Windwall should only block 1 projectile per rank of the skill

The Loveless··35 votes·7,741 views

Goddamn it that's enough. I'm sick of this bootleg Samurai Jack hard countering nearly every mage and countless heroes with 100+ mana costing ults.

edit: or duration is 1 second per rank, don't care, kill this cancer

People want to complain and get upvotes for saying "There's no counterplay to Annie but to wait her stun out". What makes Yasuo different when you have to wait on him?

Easily outplayed was a poor choice of words, I honestly didn't expect to generate this much discussion, didn't realize it was causing any pain tbh. Maybe run it back and give it some thought?

Sorry folks, I might be out of my element on this one.

I actually want to thank you for discussing this with us anyways. Most Rioters don't even bother. Even if you aren't a game play expert I do appreciate you for giving us YOUR opinion. Just ignore the hate you got.

lol. Level 23 op. I can see him being too strong in low elo though. However, I don't have any problems with Yasuo's Wind Wall. O.o Like I don't know. I mostly see Yasuo's go 2/12 or something. I never had a problem with him late game either cause he's kinda got not much items late game after losing lane hard. So no pain for me. He's already been nerfed too hard. All I needed before when he was released was nerf his shield. Which was done, plus more. So if he gets nerfed again, then I'll just have fun beating every Yasuo now, aaand without him coming back late game with Wind Wall either. lol

I guess people like maining ranged champions 24/7 and losing to Yasuo all the time instead of a variety of melee and ranged. You could also have someone on your team go melee that can deal with Yasuo instead of stupidly going all 5 ranged champs for him to screw over late game.

Someone mentioned it blocking a Nami ult. You could just, let him ult your team first, then ult on top of him to disrupt it, so long as you know to keep your distance to not get caught in his knockup (or whoever's knockup he'll be using to ult with). That's what I always do. I don't use Nami ult before Yasuo's Wind Wall appears. He will find something else to block with cause not like he will save it for Nami ult for every single Nami that's in his matches.

Someone also mentioned it blocking Soraka Q. Please. Your low Q CD vs his long W CD. Come on. Really?? It's not blocking your 100sec and 100 mana ult or anything.

Someone even mentioned Sona ult. Like......you would randomly walk up to him and do that???? You do to him same thing you do with Nami. Let him use ult, then quickly ult to stun him before he murders your entire team, or are your reflexes and reaction timing too slow to do that?? Also know to position yourself properly and not get caught in his ult. You know, as a Sona, you stay in the back line. Not the front for him to Wind Wall your ult.......................... You stay back and ult anyone diving your carries. You don't just walk up to a Yasuo and be like "hey, here's my ult for you to Wind Wall", late game or not. lol

P.S. If Yasuo Wind Wall is so good late game and wins games so easily, then why not main him yourself and collect your freelo that way?? =O

Wind Wall can be:

  • Lured out easily expecially if your kit is mostly composed by missles (which means you only delay the full combo instead of shooting it on CD and get outplayed), also lets remeber that WW has 20% uptime ratio at max rank.

  • Outpositioned by either walking through it or forcing Yasuo to walk through it himself, you are a god damn mage and most of them have more range than Yasuo

Bonus, teamfight focused

  • Wait for melee initiator (you got a team too right?).

I've played against many Yasuos even as Vel'koz (same problem as lux, only Ulti isn't locked by wall) and let me tell you that getting Yasuo either tow aste his Wall or forcing him to get out of position while outfarming him is god damn easy.

Don't you guys dare play the "elo" card. I'm a decent player who gets matched with average/decent/good players, not pros ok, but if even an unranked guy as me can find so many ways to counter him and tells you "it's just a matter of skill and timing" well then you should probably get some humility in you and reconsider your approach to the matter.

Dramos1 votes

As a Velkoz-Main, I support this opinion (but never otherwise. I main him on the midlane.). You can get even with him when you play the cooldown-minigame: Poke a bit and annoy him with some spells until he uses his wind wall. After that, torture him with all spells you've got. Just an option and my way how to deal with him. I analysed hundreds of Yasuos and only a tiny part was able to defeat me.

Stars Shaper2 votes

"Analyzed" xD

Usually Yasuo players feel safe enough behind the wall to leave it as sole defense (also caused by having to deal with silver players :P) forgetting how terrifying his R is.

Yes, and that's exactly the problem. It's not a tool to play around, it's a tool for Yasuo to beat you with. You don't successfully outplay him, he fails to outplay you. Usually this is a mobility problem, but I don't want Yasuo to have all the answers to a fight, and my 'outplay' potential is doing everything right and hoping he drops them.

Retillin4 votes

Yeah, I am lost as to why Riot thinks "counter play" on mobility champs is different than "counter play" on low mobility champs. I'm not saying they are the same thing, but isn't the reasoning here "You know how he has that ability, you have to outplay it" the same as people were saying about the Viegar stun? You know he has it, bait it out or play around it? Yet one is weakened and one isn't. (Not saying Veigar's ring didn't need work, but you can't use one excuse and get two different answers)

Nagoh Shan8 votes

The main issue with that is the margin for error.

Fail with the appropriate counterplay vs old Veigar, and you eat a full combo likely to kill.

Fail to outplay a Windwall and you don't kill Yasuo.

The second one allows for the player intended to counter, a chance when they fail. That is unless they get heavily outplayed themselves and he manages a kill with it, but usually the windwall isn't responsible for setting up kills as much as 3rd Q.

SlaktarTasken3 votes

A successfull Windwall massively relieves kill pressure from not only Yasuo but his entire team for quite a duration, thus in a teamfight scenario it can be just as if not even more lethal than successfully proccing his ult.

Fail to outplay windwall and you will most probably lose the entire fight. The ammount of damage and utility that thing can swallow up (infinite) just makes me sad.

SlaktarTasken8 votes

Yeah, coz Yasuo and his team will just sit and chill while your ranged casters and adc reposition in the middle of a TF. :>

In that case it's generally just better to back off, if you're to commited to be able to back off then I guess you just lost the TF. That's alot of extra utility comming out of skill that was just intended to bloc projectiles.

During the spann of a teamfight, 3.7 seconds is very much yes for an ability that absorbs any and EVERY projectile that's shot in its general direction. Especially if you're team is being locked into the fight already or forced to commit for lack of better options.

Even if I were bronze, I'd still outrank you as you are unranked so what's your point?

This. It's a pattern with a lot of similar champions that they have plenty of ways to outplay you but leave you very few ways to actually play around them. Kalista and Yasuo are both incredibly fancy and both win or lose based on what champion they're against.

That said, OP's suggestion is stupid.

nark10 votes

I think you said it very well. And maybe my sample size is poor, but I honestly haven't found much problem laning against him even with projectile mages like Cass. I think some other players have said it well too.

As most things I say, I speak from personal silver III scrub experience, but I do not fear playing against a Yas main nearly as much as other champs.

Hellioning10 votes

The problem, honestly, isn't laning. He's weak while laning, and his windwall is more annoying then any other defensive spell. It will probably save him a couple of times and deny you a kill or two; maybe that's enough to turn a game, but you could say the same thing about every single ability.

My problem with Yasuo is lategame, where his windwall can completely shut down an engage (Nami wave? NOPE! Sona ult? NOPE!), cause your ADC to become useless (walk into melee range of the tanks and yasuo or don't autoattack for X seconds) and generally piss you off.

Yasuo isn't too strong. He's just really annoying to play against, and I'd say he's badly designed.

SlaktarTasken4 votes

I fully agree with this, there is nothing to make you feel so useless playing adc as Yasuo passing wind.

Joke aside, there is a reason why he's so highly contested in pro play, he has spectacular damage, but so does Yi and many other MADC, but his mobility is circumstancial, unlike say, Tryndameres whirlwind or Rivens Broken Wings/Valor.

His ult does alot of damage and has extremely high cc potential, but alot of champs have ults with very high cc potential and damage.

No boys, what sets Yasuo aside from everyone else is his windwall, just think about it, the ability to negate that much with one single skill, that while not spammable, definately doesn't have a massive cd and can reliably be used at least once in every tf or skirmish.

That's exacly why he's so contested. It's not his Steel Tempest, his double passives or sweeping blade pro teams really want him for, not even his ult, it's his windwall, an ability that perhaps more than any in this game has the potential to turn just about any teamfight.

For a champ that seems to cause alot of frustration and from a balancing perspective, how is it not worth looking at?

Photos of Ghosts3 votes

Cass isn't really projectile based. She has only ONE projectile and it's spammable (unless being denied the landing puts it on full cooldown?)

WalkingInACircle14 votes

No, it cannot be outplayed. It can be misplayed.

I urgot about it6 votes

Just bait it out

WalkingInACircle9 votes

The point is that Yasuo getting baited is more his mistake than your own gameplay. The player facing Yasuo has no choice but to hope Yasuo screws up.

I urgot about it4 votes

Nooo it's more like if you're ahri, you bait it out with q and w then wait then e him for your jungle to have a good gank. It's a question of: take tons of damage or get charmed for a few seconds when he doesn't know if my jungle is coming. You can also always you know...go around it

WalkingInACircle8 votes

Oh wow. So my defense against it is to have my jungler gank? You need a 2v1 to make it fair?

Stop. Just stop. Varying your spell casts can minimize its potential at the cost of guaranteeing it nullifies at least one of yours. It's not so much an outplay as a suck it up option. Walking around it just lets Yasuo hit you for free. If you haven't blown any spells on it, you're better walking away from it. He can also walk across it if he feels the need. Anyone whose played against it should know this.

I urgot about it3 votes

I don't know it because ahri has a thing called ult to kite it Her cool downs are low and after you bait it you can do your combo twice and kill him off Remember yasuo is a melee, just auto him tons Play Annie, she counters yasuo too. Harass with autos and q's and w's then zone Build a zhonyas Avoid 3rd proc which is the only way for him to set up ult from far away alone. Stay away from minions cause he can dash to you He is fairly squishy and needs to come up to cs unlike zed There's so many ways to win Playing Lux? Auto e auto auto q when he dashes to you and keep poking Yasuos tend to go over aggressive at level 2 so just get your jungle to gank or just be far back unless you can fight him depending on your champ Like what is so hard? If you want to know how to counter a champ, play them and see for yourself

WalkingInACircle6 votes

Now you're trying to shift the argument away from the Wind Wall to Yasuo in his entirety. And in this fantasy of yours, the player is baiting it out, which is the entire root of the discussion. Circular reasoning.

I can beat Yasuos in lane. I understand how to position myself in the corner of the lane when he aggros so after he dashes to me he cannot dash to a further target. I know how to pressure his shield. I know to read the tell on his 3rd Q, and that he can't ult without it or help. And I know how to bait his wall, because most Yasuo will use it the moment you position towards them in an aggressive fashion. None of this is relevant to the options a player is given to outplay his wall.

I urgot about it3 votes

If you know how to outplay/counter yasuos everything, you win It's that simple If you beat yasuo as a whole why complain about wind wall Oh you can also silence him so he can't windwall (soraka, cho, etc.) so many ways to deal with yasuo and his wall and most yasuos use it after you cast the spells already from my experience

WalkingInACircle6 votes

Because, as I explained before, you're not outplaying or countering Yasuo's wall by baiting it. Yasuo is making a mistake if he is baited. Because it is Yasuo's own decision when to use the wall. And because it is only of value to get him to use it in a situation where it can be wasted. Inside a teamfight, having your presence shut down until it ends can be devastating for your teammates, and theres no way around it beyond wrecking your own positioning.

Deep Terror Nami3 votes

The problem I see is my team continues to sit there and attack through it and waste everything they have doing nothing as the enemy destroys them. The "outplay" is to back the hell off then go back in when it's done, attack targets that are on the same side of it as you, and only melee that can't be blocked stay under it.

I urgot about it3 votes

go around if your team can't disengage Plus, if your team does that it's hardly an outplay imo, they're just dumb

SlaktarTasken3 votes

Yeah, waste several seconds having all your ranged champ reposition in the middle of a teamfight, great counter. Good luck with that.

I urgot about it2 votes

thanks because it works in diamond

SlaktarTasken2 votes

I've never seen a half decent Yasuo and his team not take advatange of forcing people to reposition or to fall back. Sure, it is a viable strategy, but it doesn't change the fact that, that's quite alot of secondary utility comming out a skill that's simply just meant to block projectiles.

Don't get me wrong though, I love nothing more than laning against Yasuo, he's really easy to take advantage of, especially if you play any kind of fighter.

What gets to me is that every single game I've ever played against a team with Yasuo in it and not laned against him, is that whoever is against him somehow manages to feed him.

So for the sake of relieving frustration, I suggest Yasuo's windwall reduces the effect of every projectile that passes through it by 90% and is compensationbuffed by removing the delay and adding a second or two to it.

I urgot about it2 votes

I mean repositioning is better than doing nothing and being useless for several more seconds

Razgriz9905 votes

It has a super high cd, if you can't work around that than you need to learn him. I'm silver 5 and I have like a 80% win rate against him as my lane opponent. Granted I've only faced gold/potential plat players, but skill level equivalency that shit shouldn't matter.

Dank meme: get gud scrub kappa

Akali is SO HOT12 votes

I know it must be hard to actually reposition and not be stupid enough to blow all of your abilities when he uses his windwall. You can easily outplay his windwall. By your logic we should nerf: -Akali Q because there is no way to outplay it -Anivia R because all she has to do is place it on top of you and you are now slowed -Brand R because you can't dodge it -Ekko Used his W? Well shit not much I can do about that -Irelia Can't dodge her Q so it can't be outplayed

and so on and so forth. It's not the Yasuo's fault you blow your abilities on his windwall and if you continue to blow your abilities on it instead of repositioning then it's your own damn fault not his.

formido203 votes

I think the word counterplay should be deleted from the LoL dictionary. It means whatever people want it to mean. Everything in this game is beatable, just learn/adjust/improve and find what works. Good points!

The Loveless9 votes

Let's talk about power budget for a moment.

Akali No cc, no team utility, pure offensive champ Anivia No mobility = easy to jump on, high mana cost, pidgeon holed into buying mana items, great damage Brand No mobility, decent mana cost but can still run low, 1 skillshot cc, great nova champ Ekko Has a lot of strong abilities, but they are conditionally/situationally strong (Passive requires 3 hits within a time limit, Q has to hit twice for big damage, W is readable, E puts him in melee range, R is readable) Irelia Lol idk about weaknesses but no complaints here (mostly melee? no burst?)

Now...

Yasuo Has a shield, gets doubled crit chance, highly mobile, Q applies on-hits, Q can crit, Q can strike multiple targets, Q can knockup multiple targets, R can suspend targets knocked up by you or your teammates and deals huge damage on a low cooldown while also offering 50% bonus armor pen

Damage, defense, utility. So AISH, you're saying a lot of us are in the wrong for calling this guy overloaded?

Akali is SO HOT10 votes

Good job listing off his kit. I can do that with any champion and make them seem overpowered and overloaded

The Loveless1 votes

So we're not going to talk about his power budget then?

What, a champion that has almost no cooldowns should use a resource to gate his abilities? NO way.

Ultîma4 votes

Windwall is a ressourceless ability that has the potential to block an unlimited number of projectiles (skills & ultimates included). While I don't think the number of projectiles it blocks should be limited since this could severely limit Yasuo's ability to make good reaction plays due to a stray AA somewhere, but I do believe that it's duration should be a bit more limited. The original fantasy that windwall was supposed to offer was "cutting bullets" and the current iteration of this skill feels more like Yasuo erecting a barrier, rather than a dexterous sword swipe.
