What's with the griping against the Mage/mana update?

I'm not looking for votes, I'm looking for answers. I don't see what's so bad about having a big enough mana pool WITH more CDR options where I can essentially spam spells and not become oom and useless late game until recalling. Why is mana regen so much more effective vs a bigger mana pool on mages? I just see complaints with no explanation of why the item rework is a bad move.

NOTE: I'm not here to talk about any damage loss to zhonyas or other nerfs and buffs. I'm only asking about why you want mana regen > more mana.

Mana regen essentially makes certain you won't ever have to base later in the game. Big mana pool never grants you that, eventually you need to back. Since all other champion classes late game can essentially indefinitely stay on the map - sustain from item 3072 item 3083 item 3508 and others - players are concerned that that will put mages at great disadvantage. Infinite Lux Ziggs Xerath or so sieges aren't too healthy pattern, but being forced to go base say at 40 minutes into the game without enemies actually spending their resources to fight you is huge (bad) thing - you will lose an objective, especially at competitive level.

Some Rioter in other thread said they will consider this problem on Monday, so we will see.

I also made a thread on how Eternity is possibly very snowbally here, but that doesn't seem to concern anyone else, kek.

I don't think the Mana pool has gotten big enough where you can be spamming spells.

You will end up oom after a team fight or two and trying to clear a wave. Constant backs for mages because no resource regeneration.

But ADC' can get back all their life in a few aa's and endless Mana with ER, and that's fair. K.

I think that people assume the mana pool will not be large enough of a gain to offset the no regain part. Also, just having a bigger pool doesn't give you much sustain...and lacking in sustain to stay in a team fight is probably not going to be favorable for a class that is supposed to be best at team fights.

Because they hate change, lol.

To elaborate tho, it's because Regen essentially allows you to forget you even have a mana bar. Riot finds this BS and is trying to change it to where it is more interactive and having a mana bar actually matters outside or making you want/need to by regen to usurp it's existence.

Of course, this goes against many people's very understanding since this has been how they've done things since League's inception.

Personally as a MID/mage main, I'm interested in the changes and how they will affect the game and the class. Sounds more fun and interactive than simply "Buy which mana regen is currently the best "every game

I don't mind the changes, but the choices are rather very limited. A lot more mages depend on consistent casting instead of short bursts of casting, so it's no surprise that they're complaining.

If I'm getting this right, this should be the general build paths: A) Morello's for more burst/combo oriented playstyles B) Athene's for utility mages C) Archangel's for neither (or sustained damage playstyles), and late game has kind of shitty mana regeneration

I don't really play mid, but that seems hella limited.
