Old Malzahar had Similar, if not Exact Same, Problems as the New One

Old Malzahar was never healthy. First off, broken=/=Unhealthy and conversely balanced=/=healthy. See: Pre-workPoppy. While old Malzahar was balanced because "lul QSS", he wasn't healthy.

  1. He was not interactive. At all. His playstyle was E in the minion wave with a void puppy, then wait under tower or straight up leave. If enemy has QSS, GTFO because you sir are now a nuisance, not a threat. If no, WER to kill them without counterplay. AD Malz was actually healthier because he had to spam everything to become a threat AND THAT WAS THE OFF-BUILD!
  2. He was fucked by 1 singular item. People say item 3156 gives AD's an unfair advantage against AP but item 3139(And it's younger selfitem 3140) gave Malzahar Malefic Visions whenever he tried to sleep! Malzahar just blew his combo on you? HAHAH item 3140 and boom you win. On the flip side if you didn't have it "WER lul get outplayed".

The things people complain about on Malzahar would be extremely similar if the old one was ever popular.

  1. Support Malzahar back then had the exact same qualityies as current one: Abuse base damage, get ez Spelltheif stacks, "Fuck you WER".
  2. AD Malzahar back then also cleared stupid easy and caused you to die by mere void puppy spam. Gee, I wonder what sparked most of the complaints when he was first reworked!
  3. AP Malzahar was WQER fuck you, AP Malzahar is still WQER fuck you.

"But his weaknesses!"

  1. "MANA COSTS!" You had to be super terrible at Malzahar in order to run out of mana. His e refunded mana upon spread, yes spread not last hit, and practically paid for itself after 3 bounces. Once you get any AP item you never had to interact with your opponent.
  2. "He was weak when pushed in!" Again, you had to suck at Malzahar to get pushed it. The guy contested ZIGGS when it came to sieging. A wave should never last more than 12 seconds if Malzahar was near.
  3. "CC!" Yea same thing happens today.
  4. "Weak in teamfights!" ^

The problem with the Malzahar rework is that it wasn't big enough. He needs something of a VGU if he will ever be healthy however an Aatrox-level miniwork could answer some of his problems.

I've been around since season 1. Support Malzahar was NEVER a thing, it wasn't even a thing with his first rework for the exact same reasons, his early game was terrible and his mana costs were completely unsustainable as a support.

AD Malzahar back then also cleared stupid easy and caused you to die by mere void puppy spam. Gee, I wonder what sparked most of the complaints when he was first reworked!

AD Malz was only viable in the jungle, and it had one of the highest skills floors of any jungle every played, including a shit early game. They're not the same in the least

Give me a single viable mage in the game that can't clear a wave from a mile away. Can you people who've never played Malz just stop.

One of the main reasons Malzahar Support is picked are the level 1 (or 2 in case you need your E) Voidling Rush. I have also seen many of them maxing their W first...

Another thing is his Current Passive, that deletes any hook that hits him. As long as he had a Passive-Aggressive playstyle, he can maintain it most of the time. And he also uses Voidlings to shield himself and his allies from them (a feature that Old Malzahar could do after he cast multiple spells and then stop, not at the push of a button everytime you want)

I agree with you that both versions are unhealthy, and need a rework, but it is clear to see that the direction Riot took isn't perfect. The Boards doesn't like the features Riot added to Malzahar, so it makes sense that they want a revert (or a Rework that removes/changes everything New Malzahar has).

I kinda feel that way with the ryze rework, every rework I wonder if they are going to remove his targeted snare now. They don't, they literally always keep the part of his kit that is known for having little to no counterplay.

This make me think you never played old Malz. At no point in the game could his e solo clear a minion wave. Unless way ahead, q e didn't even clear a wave.

You could freeze and clear a wave with passive, q, and e, but you had to stay there or your passive voidling would leave with you.

I prefer a full on revert before they do anything. At least he was fun to play prework, but now he feels shit to play as and against.

Also old malz was never played as support don't get delusional. His mana costs were absurd which was offset by the mana refund on maelific visions, keeping him from ever showing up in a duo lane.
