I think the support class/tag should be renamed to distinguish between class and the role

It's not that I think "Support" doesn't fit as a description, but rather that it's a little messy that support is both a role and a class at the moment. A class is meant to be part of a champion's identity, and since Zyra, Leona or others tend to be confused for being supports (because they are or were mostly played in the role of the supporter) I think it may be better to rename the class Sona, Lulu, etc. sit in. If I remember correctly the term Marksman was for the differentiation of role (adc) versus identity as well.

Thoughts?

simple solutiion remove the support tag add the utility bar on champion's stats panel

so nami is a mage with high utility leona is a tank with high utility

while volibear is a tank with lower utility

Change it to Guardian/Defender/Protector class. Support is a role, not a class. Zyra/Annie/Vel'Koz were not meant to be a support, but just happens to be a mage that goes botlane, while Lulu, even mid, is not picked for her damage but for her support capabilities with higher gold income to better defend a hypercarry and deny enemy snowballers.

Not sure what I'd rename it, but you have a point. Nunu, for example, can play in the jungle or support position. But as a jungler, he still functions as a team support. He's not ganking and getting kills. He's eating both jungles, stealing dragons, and keeping the map lit up.

I made the suggestion a while too and it wasn't the first.

I'd rename the role though: Assist.

Because the Assist helps the ADC do their job, while a Support does various stuff for the team, they can't do themselves.

At least that's my understanding on how the two terms Assist and Support are defined.

A support (role) is the non-csing partner in a duo lane.

A utility carry does little damage, and primarily peels for a damage-dealing carry.

  • Since "UC" is kind of a bleh acronym, it could be "Crowd Control Carry," or 3C/TripleC

It doesn't really matter, if they rename it now people are just gonna keep calling it by the old name. I've seen very few people refer to 'marksmen' and most of those that do primarily say it to mock the term.
