Why is Spear of Shoujin being changed from a way to survive better to a way to do more damage

How many more times to we have to explain this? Bruiser players don't want more damage. We want to actually live through things. We'd really appreciate that more than some gimmick most champs don't use because it either doesn't work or doesn't matter when you get exploded instantly.

Bruisers and Juggernauts don't want more damage. We have enough damage. We want to access it without just building to one shot squishes and pretending to be an assassin

Because Riot is stupid and doesn't understand we need less damage in the game, and doesn't understand defenses needs to go up. We only been yelling about it for like 2 seasons now.

It's a completely new item now, primarily intended for marksmen. The name and artwork of Spear of Shojin got reused since the previous version got scrapped.

Edit: Here's the original statement:

The current ER effect (AAs lower CDs after ult cast) gets moved to a new item with an AD, health, CDR statline (using the name and icon of Spear of Shojin, the original design of which we concluded was too overlapped with other items, Sterak’s especially). Goal is to have it be useable by both some marksmen and some other classes as per current ER.

At this point after a lot of testing, yeah, we don't think Shojin's niche was working well enough. Too overlapped with a ranged of other AD+defense (HP or other) items and not particularly bound to light fighters either. Might revisit the space sometime, but no immediate plans, hence repurposing the name and icon for this work instead.

It's not a bruiser item anymore.

Decision was that their last design had a bit too much overlap with other items already available to bruisers and juggernauts, particularly Sterak's.

Because riot wants this game to be damage only. Why would they ever give players a way to actually survive in Burst meta lol.

Because completely negating DoTs by buying a single item isn't healthy gameplay.

No juggernaut would have used SoJ. It'd have been Zed, Rengar, Talon, and a bunch of divers picking it up so they can get free defense with their one-shot.

Trust me, you would NOT want to see that item w its old passive in the game on champs like

Jax Tryndamere Riven MasterYi Fiora [insert good champ to use it on here]

There is of course the saying of "1v3, 1v4, etc." but w an item like that on one of these guys. that saying will be nothing less but true.

Old spear of Shojin was just as bad. You'd just make fighters nigh unkillable, and they already are hella tanky with their itemisation. Preferably i'd have neither iterations of it.

Don’t understand why this item got implemented OVER Atmas.

And this CD passive by using ult was a totally dumb idea. Only a few can use it, but this minority abuses it heavily.

Remove it from the game before it’s too late (like for Duskblade)

OP you might be pleased to hear that some attempts at this are made but aimed at the champions kits here and there.

There is a Vi change incoming where she loses a bit of outright damage on her Q, E and R but gains a little attackspeed later on as well as getting a bigger passive shield and each time she applies her W it reduces her passive cooldown a bit, a buff to help her extended fighting ability that is.

I personally think this is in the perfectly right design for "less burst" but still keeping her as a threat and letting her stay in fights more.
