@Riot, could a champion similar to Dota's invoker be created?

TenSpeed·12/14/2015, 7:17:44 PM·12 votes·3,515 views

a champion with something like 10+ different skills that can only be done by mixing base abilities together.

It would be the ultimate skill cap champion.

I've read elsewhere in the past you guys said that you wouldn't consider Invoker because he is such a burden of knowledge on players. However I believe it would make the game truly diverse and add something for those who like a good challenging champ to play and test themselves with.

Is it a future possibility?

of course the champion would need the right tuning or it would trump every other champ in the game.

believe it or not Invoker does have counters that can beat him in Dota no matter how op/unbeatable he sounds on paper.

Totally against that. Invoker is my favorite champ after abaddon .Riot won't be able to handle his awesomeness (they can't even fix Morde and Morde's drake,so i don't want them to ruin a hero I like)

He would be balanced at around 35% winrate xd 40 lets not overexagurate

If I could make a list of heroes from Dota 2 that I ABSOLUTELY would mind them bringing over from Dota 2 to spice up the game, it would be Invoker, Meepo, Spirit Breaker, Io, Ogre Magi, Rubick, and Ancient Apparition. Not the exact same OF COURSE, but the same general concept.

Invoker being combining elements for a broad range of spells. Meepo being multi-hero control. Spirit Breaker for the across the map presence constantly. Io for the tether. Ogre Magi for spell critical hits (most wouldn't agree with me here). Rubick for the idea of SPELL copying. Ancient Apparition for the global pressure that he brings.

Also, the main disadvantage of Invoker is, while he has 10-12 spells, he can only effectively use 2 at a time and they all have decent cool downs so he can't spam the same two. Meanwhile, everyone else has 3 normal spells with low cool downs but nearly as good as Invoker's and an ability that is almost always better than Invoker's.

Invoker always has the chance to win, but its entirely a skill match up. If the Invoker is better, it is extremely obvious because he crushes them. This also works vice versa, to where its incredibly easy to spot a bad Invoker.

This could easily be translated into League.

This was one of my favorite heros to play on Dota 2. Definitively an extremely fun hero to play and very versatile. :)

If Riot were trying to do an Invoker-lite, I would say something like have his QWE be a fire, ice, and lightning spell that all run off a shared ammo system. Then his Ult would be different depending on what the last two casts were. So he would have a pure element of each, fire/lightning, fire/ice, and ice/lightning for a total of six different Ults to choose from.

Not quite as crazy as Invoker, but I think it could work. Bonus points if the spells combo into each other in different ways.

No, DotA's balance schema is different, having a champion with a large amount of options is fine in that game (even if you only REALLY do 3 of them).

Having a champion with an additional 5 options for spells in League would make them the ultimate utility champion so their spells would have to be super gimpy.

Basically, if "New" Invoker had 3 spells worth using that were as good as another champions basic kit, but had 5 others that were good situationally, Invoker would just be BETTER than other mages. If all his spells were worse by default, but he had the options, he would be gimp for 99.99% of players.

Sona would be a perfect candidate for this.

Make a champion with like 50 different abilities Only 4 of them are worth anything So why didn't you just make a normal 4 ability champion?

seems like a more complicated TwistedFate

Eh, if I were to choose a champion to be based off of one from DoTA, I'd prefer Morphling.....or Enigma...or maybe Bane Elemental. Yeah one of those 3.

Yes. Please give Carl or something with more than 4 basic skills

Solidair312/15/2015, 4:23:52 PM1 votes

Likely not. Invoker requires SO much game knowledge, i just don't think it would be possible, at least not while making him healthy. Illaoi and her spirit > vessel mechanics are already pushing the limit.

His skillcap is too big for LoL.
