I wanted to examine, how favorable are zed's match up V. various mids and who can do well against him at Diamond ranked where I assume both players can play their selected champion to nearly its highest potential.

Azir Zed wins 51.95%, although Azir poses an escape in the form of his E and strong early game poke, Azir has quite low starting armor leading zed to have an advantage over him

Xerath 55.05% Zed's resourceless poke and gap closers allow him to easily beat long range mages

Fizz 59.75% Zed can easily push Fizz under tower, is manaless, has better poke and damage

Syndra 50.81% Despite being one of the strongest bullies at mid Syndra losses to Zed

Yasuo 59.05% Simply dodge the tornado with either your ult or shadow and bait windwall

Katarina 42.71% Another midlane god who easily beats Zed since he lacks a way to stop Death Lotus

Orianna 51.18% Despite her massive skill celling and potential for plays Zed still wins

Lissandra 50.45 Despite being cited as someone who does well agaisnt Zed, Zed still wins

Ahri 50.00% Another sometimes cited Zed counter only goes fifty-fifty with Zed

Leblanc 56.19% Zed beats one of the other oppresive midlaners easily

TL.DR Very few mids can actually beat Zed. Long range casters get outsustained and jumped. Lane bullies such as Syndra come the closests to beating Zed but still lose more than they win. Zeds "counters" mostly Lissandra and sometimes Ahri dont win more than Zed. Zed destroys most other assassins such as Fizz. The only mid that can consistently win is also questionably way too good. Is Zed too strong, you can't wholly base it on win rates but I do know playing mid against Zed is nightmarish lack of fun. His laning is his biggest problem I think perhaps fixing it can allow him to balanced?

  1. The chart isn't for lane phase. It's based on game wins.
  2. The chart doesn't guarantee that the two champions are in the same lane. Lissandra is rarely in Zed's lane these days, for example; lolking just hasn't updated her meta position to top lane. That 1v1 is indeed brutal for Zed.
  3. The daily chart has a pretty small sample size and as a result fluctuates often. Consider using weekly chart instead.
  4. Zed has a pretty iffy win rate in diamond; he's been above 50% win rate for one day in the past month and generally hangs out around 48%. Evidence for Zed being OP isn't so hot.

I don't think that the thing about Zed is his laning. Actually I think he loses a ton of lanes when both sides play correctly. I think it's just how risk free his ult is. If Fizz or Talon goes in at a bad time, they're dead. If Zed goes in and there's a whole team waiting behind that Orianna, he just presses R again and waits a minute before trying again.

Zed has no weak match-ups. His lane-counter spectrum goes from domination on one end to average on the other; there is no "significantly weak" for lane match-ups.

Not to further induce your chart, but i'm pretty damn sure Zed also beats Katarina in lane. He just ults to dodge Death Lotus. He's preparing for his blink strike in roughly the same time Death Lotus spins.
