Control Mages

So ever since I got Anivia Iv'e been doing really good on her and I realized it was because of the control Mage type of play style. There's not too many supremely hard mechanics or anything too overloaded and I enjoy it very much. Iv'e played Ap Shin on the PBE servers as well and liked it very much. SO, what kind of champions do you think would fit the "control mage" style? As I've been thinking to pick up some more champions I've thought of champs like Karthus, and Ao Shin but was wondering who else I should try out

Most of what you said were burst mages :P maybe I should edit my thing to say sustain control mages

But they're still zone control, though. Zyra, Azir, and Veigar can control entire lanes sometimes because of their massive AOE lockdown/high damage spells and brand is someone you do not wanna fight in a chokepoint.

These are the mages I'd consider to be "control" mages:

Anivia Azir Lissandra Lux Orianna Syndra Zyra

There are a couple I'm not sure on but I decided not to include: Kennen Velkoz Xerath Zilean

To me a control mage can be simply defined as a mage who has the ability to exercise a large amount of control over a fight, typically for extended periods. This can be done primarily via zone control and crowd control, usually a solid mixture of both. While yes, a lot of the champions I'm listed are also very clearly in the burst mage category (Lux and Syndra in particular), this is mostly because mages tend to do a variety of things and it's possible to combine burst with control elements.

The most similar mage to Anivia in terms of how she controls fights is probably Azir - both of them create zones where enemies don't want to be (Anivia ult, Azir soldier location), both of them force suboptimal pathing on enemies (Anivia W, Azir ult) and both of them output a potentially severe amount of crowd control (Anivia Q/R, Azir ult, Q + Rylai's soldiers). However, obviously they do things quite differently in other ways with Azir having units to micro-manage and Anivia... not having to do that, so liking Anivia doesn't mean you'd like Azir. You should try your hand at all of the mages I listed, but Azir, Syndra and Ori are all difficult to pick up (not that Anivia is easy) so be prepared to put time into learning them. The only people I don't enjoy much in the list myself are Azir and Lux.

Thank you for the detailed response ! I do realize that Anivia and azir had the same kind of impact in team fights but I just didn't have a chance to write it down here. So out of all of those champs you've mentioned I've played all of them at least once and just today bought orianna. I enjoy all except for Lisandro and lux and Sandra somewhat but I've only found success on Anivia, orianna. I haven't tried out Zyra yet (contradicting what I've said earlier but of well) but yeah thanks!

Don't call him Ao Shin... there is no champion named Ao Shin.

I can call him whatever I want. Ao shin is easier to say and is recognizable by most players.
