AP Item Diversity

A lot have been talking about the great lack of AP item diversity, which I'm sure we can all agree with. There are no items that suit different playstyles or types of mages, and that's what we should have.

For example, we can have items that are made to benefit champions whose kits revolve about dealing consistent damage with spamming spells (Cassiopeia/Karthus).

We can have items that benefit champions who land skill shots at longer range (Xerath, Ziggs).

Items that benefit burst (Viktor, Veigar)

Items for diver melees (Ekko, Kassadin)

It doesn't matter. It's just that AP itemization is quite a dull thing. There's nothing to discover when you build AP. It really doesn't matter who you are playing when you're AP, you just build as much AP as possible with some defense when you're behind. I really hope this comes next and really hope I don't come off as whining, as I know how much Riot actually does for its playerbase. <3

The problem with AP items is that a lot of them are just copies of each other that vary by only a small difference. Hextech GLP, Rod of ages, rylai's, and gunblade for example. While AD's have a plethora of options for defense, burst, pen etc. AP's fall into the, stack AP, stack AP, stack AP as the answer to everything. Basically no pen options, hardly any defensive items; the class of ADCS has more defensive items than the entire AP itemization line up and no itemization built to support endeavors into melee. The entire line up just needs to be redone.

This is rather misguided. The issue isn't that there is diversity in AP itemization. The issue is that there is little diversity within the different AP classes individual builds.

In other words: It isn't that lux and ekko don't have different items to build. It's that they, ''individually'' always have the same build, game to game.
