Worlds 2018: Missions, RP, and Tokens; The Math

You read the title, you know why you're here, so let's get started.

I'll start with RP: what's for sale, and how much does it all cost?

  • Worlds Pass: 1650
  • Championship Kha'Zix: 1350
  • Championship Kha'Zix Chromas: 390
  • Bronze Supporter Bundle: 600
  • Silver Supporter Bundle: 1490
  • Gold Supporter Bundle: 2590

There are 48 different chromas for Championship Kha'zix, and 24 teams in worlds, so 24 of each bundle.

  • Championship Kha'Zix Chromas: 18720
  • Bronze Supporter Bundle: 14400
  • Silver Supporter Bundle: 35760
  • Gold Supporter Bundle: 62160

Finally, the cost to buy everything: Worlds Pass + Championship Kha'zix + 24 Gold Supporter Bundles + the remaining 24 chromas. 1650 + 1350 + 62160 + 9360 = 74520 ($540) $540 Yikes.[sg-ahri-1]

But, if that's out of your price range, don't worry! Because now we're moving on to all of the FREE! stuff you can get from the missions. If you complete every mission during the worlds event, you'll get:

And that just leaves tokens, what can you get, and how much does it all cost? Let's find out:

Remember, if you're playing for free, you can get a max of 400, so spend them wisely. But what if you want more? The total cost for everything (excluding the orbs and TFTR chromas) is as follows: 50 + 100 + 150 + (350*6) + (400*6) = 4800 50 + 100 + 150 + 350 = 650 4800 + 650 + 2500 = 7950 I excluded the orbs because you can purchase them as many times as you want. The TFTR chromas I'll touch on later.

You only get 400 tokens from the missions, so you may be wondering, how do I get this many tokens? The answer is worlds pass, which earns you 15 tokens on every First Win Of The Day, and additional tokens for every game based on map, your score, and whether you won or lost(see the Announcement Page for details). It also comes with 200 on purchase. Neat.

So, let's assume you play two games every day, both at A level, on Summoners Rift, and win one. The pass is available for 54 days, so that will net you: 400 + 200 + (15*54) + (10*54) + (6*54) = 2274 Not even enough for the Prestige skin on its own.[sg-janna] Again, spend your tokens wisely. And if you want that prestige skin (that we haven't even seen yet)[slayer-jinx-unamused] buy the pass when it first comes out. Thats tomorrow, by the way(sept 27).

[sg-lux-2] Finally, I have some questions that I would like a rioter to answer, because the announcement page is of, shall we say, QUESTIONABLE quality in some areas.

First is Worlds Mythic 2018. What is this? An icon? An emote? It doesn't say. Also, the quest to unlock it is to complete 50 worlds quests, but there are only 46 in total. Did you guys forget how to count? Edit: Riot has confirmed some hidden missions, so I'm going to assume this makes up the difference. It also bumps up the total tokens gained from free missions to 400 from 360. Next, the TFTR Golden Chromas. There's nothing listed here. Was this not meant to be here? Or did you just forget to list the skins that have chromas? The TFTR border. What skins does this apply to, and how long does it last? Also, in regards to the Kha Chromas, will all 48 be available(I assumed yes), or just the ones for teams in worlds? I would appreciate any answers you can give me.

Again, spend your tokens wisely. And if you want that prestige skin (that we haven't even seen yet) buy the pass when it first comes out. That's tomorrow, by the way(sept 27).

Riot posted in their announcement that the World's pass will "store" some of the tokens you would have gotten over time, so you don't have to buy the World's pass right away if you're not sure you want to buy it and grind for tokens. You'll miss out on the First Win of the Day bonuses (15 tokens per day), but if you'd rather see how many tokens you could get BEFORE buying it and then feeling obligated to play, it might work better for players not sure if they'll have time to make the pass purchase worth it.

Deciding to buy later? Don’t worry; we'll stash the tokens you would have earned (excluding missed Worlds Pass First Wins of the Day) for you to claim upon purchase.

If you don't get World's Pass you get 400 tokens. One hidden mission confirmed by riot.

I'm doing my own math on this, and in the first 24 hours, I've gained 112 tokens (plus the 200 included in the Worlds Pass). I'm presuming this will be a weekend-only, no-life grindfest (ARAM only), but if I keep this up, I'll have 6048 tokens over the 54 days.

Honestly, I'm guessing I will be in good shape to get that Prestige Edition skin. ...Not that I even play Kai'Sa or anything other than ARAM anyway, so I may actually get to see the skin only once every Blood Moon.

We'll see what I get - there's a lot of stuff I want, from icons to ward skins to chromas. <3

100 tokens per day, 2500 tokens... [finds calculator] 25 days to get Porn Star Kai'Sa Prestige Edition. But then there is the other things I want too.

  • Golden Chroma (400 tokens)
  • Border (350 tokens - can't decide on Shyvana or Kalista)
  • Gold Worlds Pass icon (50 tokens)
  • Golden Championship 2018 emote (100 tokens)
  • Golden 2018 Championship ward skin (150 tokens)

3550 tokens total... *grinding intensifies* :/

EDIT: 21 days in: 2448 tokens total.

My issue is the lack of actual token rewards unless you pay. If you play for free you need to grind for FIVE WEEKS before you can get anything meaningful with an orb, which is likely to just contain a single skin shard. All the other weeks grinding up to it will get you nothing

Do I really want to pay to get a ticket to earn the right for tokens? Not really, especially when I have to work and can't play 24/7 to get max value from the ticket

Why are the tokens for this event so "devalued"? Orbs in other events are usually 50 or 60 tokens... the orbs associated with this event are 300 tokens. (And the tokens until now have been easier to earn, other events allowing some missions done in co-op mode. All of these missions must be done PVP 5v5.)

Notwithstanding, considering an Orb is in the store for 250 RP, the passes will yield their "value" and then some.

I just realized something which makes me feel like the whole thing is a bad deal...

1 Token = 1 BE

1 Orb = 300 Tokens = 300 BE

4 Orbs = 1200 BE + 400 Tokens = 1600 BE

BE is normally valued at something like 1/10 of a penny, and RP is on the order of 1 penny. (My own approximations based on how much RP we get, and Champion equivalencies BE vs RP.)

It seems like the base value of the pass, is almost 1:1, BE for RP. Even if you get an extra 1600 Tokens out of the pass (which, would be doing pretty good), that's still an equivalency of 2BE / RP. I really wanted that Shyvana Chroma, but I'm starting to have a bad feeling about this deal. Too late now, but...

I can't believe that I paid between .5 and 1 cents for BE.

(I didn't check the equivalencies until now, when I was thinking about cashing them in. I just figured they would be along the lines of mission rewards all year long. But Orbs have been 50 - 60 tokens for past missions, and a token usually got 5 or 10 BE. For the one event with a paid pass, I wound up haveing tokens worth ~ 1/5 of what they were until now.)

(EDIT: Adjust the above for only 200 tokens, I misremembered. Even worse...)

Hey, so I don’t use worldpass and the maximum tokens I can get is 400 right? Also, I can’t get tokens from FWOTD right? Lastly, is there any mission is considered hard to accomplish

Ugh If I buy the golden Championship Riven 2016 chroma and then buy the Championship Riven border + icon, will this border apply in game when I play Riven?

This is actually a super informative and well organized post! I wanted to follow up with some maths I did of my own:

First: Since First Win of the Day resets every 20 hours, you can get more than 54 FWotD over the course of the event. 54 * 24 = 1296 total hours for the event 1296 / 20 = ~64 FWotD If you were really committed to earning FWotD as soon as it becomes available, you could earn 150 more tokens.

Second: As you already calculated above, you'll need 7950 tokens to get ALL of the one-time purchasbles. Assuming an A rank and exactly 50% win-rate: 400 (missions) + 200 (Worlds Pass) + 15*64 (FWotD) + 8*X (Average tokens earned per SR game) >= 7950 X = 799 You'll need to play ~799 games on SR (or ~1420 games on ARAM) (obviously the exact number will change based on each person's average performance) [sg-zephyr]

Question that I can't seem to find online yet, do bot games count for tokens at all with the pass? I can't imagine having time with a full time job to do this unless i can spam bot games
