The 8 most banned champions all have negative win rates

This is confirmed by multiple sources. https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/by-banrate https://champion.gg/statistics/#?sortBy=general.banRate&order=descend Akali Irelia Yasuo Darius Zed Leblanc Aatrox Pyke

Akali, the most banned champion by a wide margin, sits at a pathetic 45% win rate. This is a clear indication that people are banning these champions because of their kits, and not because they're OP. And half of these champions are very recent, with Akali, Irelia, Pyke, and Aatrox all making the list.

I mean, a 63% ban rate with a 45% win rate. Riot, this is a massive indictment of your recent champion designs and game balance. Champion bans, which people used to use to ban lane counters or champions they personally didn't like, are now being used en-masse to opt out of your recent work.

And this isn't just the boards complaining. Just look at League of Graphs, her ban rate is #1 across all regions(excepti ID, VN, and TR) in gold and up. Hell, her ban rate tends to rise as you go up the ranks, despite her sucking.

EVERYONE hates this champion, from Bronze V(rip) to Diamond I, from Korea to NA to EU, NOBODY likes this champion.

Riot, it's time to swallow your pride, and admit that you're taking this game in the wrong direction.

I don't think you're describing this phenomenon correctly.

What I think you're referring to is these champions' Delta Scores; How far they can deviate from an average win rate.

Even if the average is 45%, SKILLED players are easily pushing 65-75% win rates on these champions. The reason there is such variance is due to the skill curves associated with them. They take a lot to master, and relative to elo, when mastered are overbearing.

No one wants to risk that the player they run into is the mastered player. So, yes. They ban it.

Win rates are low because these champions are banned at high elo. They are banned at high elo because they are UNBALANCED.

Winrates are negative because idiots think they will win if they pick op champ, which sometimes isn't all that wrong, but most of the times it is and they lose thus dragging the winrate to the gutter. Why don't you post win rates of 1 tricks, I bet Irelia and Akali mains have over 60% win rate. But yeah except for Aatrox all those champions lack any form of counterplay and should be classified as cancer class.

They have low winrates because most of them require a lot of skill. Darius isn't very difficult to play but he does deal lots of damage if the player uses his passive well, that's when it becomes unbalanced. They aren't weak champions, they're just difficult for the lower elos to play and too op for the higher elos.

The low win rates don't mean they're weak. If anything, in combination with the ban rates, it means they're either OP or at least perceived as OP that lots of people first-time them or otherwise play them without practice / incorrectly / into bad matchups.

Further, a lot of the people who pick this style of champion opt to go into 1v5 fights to try to solo-carry. Which often loses their team the game. It doesn't mean they're weak. Akali saw boatloads of play at worlds, so she's clearly not weak. She's one of the strongest champions in the game, she just loses because most of the types of players that pick her are not good at the game and just want to 1v5 (instead of playing with the team in a team game). Irelia, Leblanc, and Aatrox were also pretty much pick or ban at worlds and can have the same argument.

BUT yea, hugely agree - most of the banned champions are Riot's recent work. So Riot puts in all this effort, but ultimately is constantly making champions so over the top that people ban them.

I mean look at Neeko.

Her bread'n'butter spam damage ability is AOE and can hit the same target 3 times. She has stealth. She has deception with MS. She has passive damage on autos so she still does damage when OOM or on CD. also grants MS. She has an AOE root that passes through minions. Her ult has a slow, a shield, a stun, and massive damage - all in a gigantic AOE about 7x the size of a Leona ult?

And all that didn't even include her passive that lets her trick people by disguising as an ally and taking on their health pool.

She would still be a super-fun and viable champion without the slow AND without the shield on her ult, and without the MS on her W. Yet when you look at recent champions, Neeko is probably underloaded in comparison...
