Mage Mains: I summon thee.

Hi everyone,

I know that we want item diversity just like AD do. I know that we want some reduce cost of item 3089 or a cheap fusion of item 1058 item 1052 or item 1058 item 1026 that gives some %AP. But did some of you try out to build it after a core item? It might not be the best example but here: http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/3360039100/207300425?tab=stats As you can see I have only item 3165 as 100AP Item.

Out of any bonus in game (except rabaddon), I ended up getting roughly close to 630 AP if I'm not mistaken. Then, I've got an Infernal, an elder and a baron. And In the end I ended up with ~840 AP. Yes it was temporary but still. I see many posts complaining about how low AP wecan reach. Yet we aren't trying to build Raba that gives a not so little boost to it.

http://matchhistory.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/EUW1/3354832138/207300425?tab=stats Here's another game as Xerath - a lost - where you can still go on and calculate my AP if you want.

So... my point is, why sometimes aren't we trying to build Raba? Not everytime but every so often after core item?

Because its build path is absolutely horrible. Not to mention it's pretty expensive and the gold can be spent on items that offer more than just raw AP like Liandry's or Void Staff.

The only mage I play a lot is Vlad and the gold for him is better spent on things that increase your survivability (considering everyone and their mother deals a fuck ton of damage and he needs to be in the middle of a fight to pump out damage).

As you said, AP itemisation is pretty shit and has little diversity.

Rabadons has a % increase in AP which only makes it effective later into the game. Pen deals more damage, and you need to solve mana problems, get cdr and necessary defenses before building Rabadons. It gives 0 stats other than AP which means you need everything else from other items. When it additionally has a terrible build path(if one component gave % ap that would be way better) it's basically never worth building other than 5th or 6th item. Most games end before you get that far.

Wait until that new Nullifying Orb rune come to live ...

Free item 3155 magic shield for everyone from game start ... only against magic damage.

In your first game you were snowballing pretty good, which feels like the only time Deathcap works when you get it early. It's basically like a Mejai's at that point in the game, except you pay a lot for it to not lose stacks and not give you movement speed.

I personally rush Luden's, so as soon as I pick up another NLR I'm committed to finishing a Deathcap. If team fights start going south, if I need more survivability or penetration, then that NLR is taking up a slot and is going to make it harder for me to get what I need. I've tried to work around that by building the Blasting Wand + Amp Tome first, so that if I need something else (like a Void Staff, Liandry's, or Rylais) I can rotate my build to get it, but I still hesitate to get that NLR because it can turn on you so hard.

Personally? I can't afford to call an item "core" when trying to build it can cost you the game, or if that item only works when snowballing.

If there was another (cheeper) item that built out of NLR I might end up getting Deathcap more frequently, because I could use this other item as a backup alternative. As is though, Deathcap feels very much like Mejai's. At least Mejai's is honest about what it is - a snowball item.

Rabadons just isn't that gold efficient. If you want massive damage void staff or liandrys (or generally both) is vastly more gold efficient. Honestly a lot of champs don't even really want to go deathcap except after full build, because it's just kind of meh as a pure damage to champions item.
