EDIT - Alright guys, we're headed back to work. Thanks for all the questions!

HELLO, EVERYONE Narrative team & others are here to answer your questions about Azir and his place in Shurima. Like, "How does he keep his feathers so well-groomed?" and, "How does a bird like him survive in the desert?" (You'll have better questions. I promise.)

We'll be answering questions until the end of the day.

Would you say Azir was the kind of ruler that people** flocked** to?

Renekton Bot9/10/2014, 9:56:24 PM22 votes

Look I know most of this stuff already, but I missed out on everything after "I get locked in a tomb with a living night light."

  1. They said Azir was dusted after the ritual went wrong. How is it that we have to suffer his obnoxious, overbearing presence again? I mean, I knew a guy who had the same thing happen to him (minus the betrayal). Only thing he ascended into was a cloud of atomic particles.

  2. Why's everyone making such a big deal about this, anyway? I'm already part of the league. Coolness factor as maximum capacity. Tell him to leave.

  3. Apparently Shurima fell while I was gone. What the fuck, Nasus?

  4. Did anyone feed my goldfish? Or did he ascend as well, since everyone's fucking ascending now?

  5. How long did Nasus feign sorrow over what he had to do? Did he immediately go into my room and touch my stuff? What did he take? Tell him I want it back and I'm going to kill him.

Thanks for your time, but thank me for mine most of all.

I HAD A IMPORTANT QUESTION, WHY DID AZIR JOIN THE LEAGUE? hehehe.

Now, the real question, if the ascension reliq was used in the past... did that mean nasus, Renekton and azir are not the only furry ascended people on valoran?

Vendorus9/10/2014, 7:20:32 PM8 votes

Was he always so...birdy? I mean he has fabulous legs but I wonder were they like that when he was young and...alive?

Zerglinator9/10/2014, 5:59:22 PM7 votes

What does Azir think of Yordles? Does Azir know Anivia at all or have any relation to her? Did Azir ALWAYS love birds?

TerraRising9/10/2014, 6:40:50 PM7 votes

I get the feeling that, according to Riot, Xerath went from a mage curious about how much arcane power he could actually control to a clone of Jafar from Aladdin, a power hungry subordinate who stole it at the most opportune moment.

Is this really how an otherwise interesting character be transformed?

I would like to ask something lore wise, and not just about Azir, but about every champion related to Shurima in one way, shape, or form.

In the client, you have reduced these champion's lore to a very short paragraph, whereas before, they were practically stories in of themselves. Are these lore changes simply placeholders for future lore additions, or is this the beginning of the not-so-well-received announcement of the disconnect between the game and the lore?

If its the former, I will gladly wait for those additions. If its the latter, will there be a separate website you guys will develop that will hold the entire story of not only Shurima, but Runeterra as a whole?

Why does Cassiopeia want to serve Azir/shiruma and betray her family, thus having katarina and talon come after her for betraying the Du Couteau family, and Darius come after her for betraying Noxus. AND swain come after her because Darius is coming after her, AND FINALLY, with swaim, the entire Noxian army since he, Darius, Katarina, and Talon all probably have enough influence to marshall it.

Also, Why Cassiopeia lore change?

Bit of topic and not totally about Azir. I was wondering, I Xerath full evil now. It's just that, as some one who plays and loved Xerath's lore he never struck me as evil. All he wanted was to learn the truth of magic. I would love to see more of Xerath reasons behind why he took the ascension ritual from Azir and the subsequent fallout.

Why can't Azir just let go his lost empire?

What he gonna rule there anyway, sands? Though I can somehow see him modeling his whole empire with sand then play empire in his head.

Now I kinda got sad for him...

Here are my questions!

(Serious questions) -Did Azir rule alone, or would there have been a...Mrs. Azir? -Are Azir's sand soldiers dressed in the garb they wore when Shurima was still intact? Was their equipment immediately familiar to him when he summoned them the first time? -Did Azir have any inkling that Xerath was going to betray him, or was he blind to that possibility?

(Slightly off-topic question, but still relating to Azir/Shurima) -The Facebook preview mentioned Nasus and Renekton being "Ascended heroes." Is that why Fury of the Sands and Dominus (their ults) are so similar? Is that the kind of power they gain by drawing on their Ascended forms?

(Funny questions) -Does Azir sleep in a bed or a nest? If it's a nest, what's it made of?

How many times did you have to say the name "Shurima" while writing Azir's lore and quotes (if you write the quotes)?

Sharjo9/10/2014, 6:17:02 PM3 votes

Here's a question for ya:

Given the fact that the Shurimans aren't the only sun revering culture, what does Azir think of Mount Targon and the Solari?

Beryll9/10/2014, 7:49:57 PM3 votes

So this may clash with gameplay but: How does it work out that a great emperor, who doesn't even bother attacking himself, dashes to one of his lowly soldiers? I feel like a dash was decided to be mandatory on his kit to make him safer but it doesn't quite fit into his fantasy, imo.

Meph9/10/2014, 5:59:45 PM3 votes

How long has Azir been in the works?

We know the Sand Mage was an idea kicked around for a long time, but when did the Eygyptian Ra-esque Bird Emperor become the settled upon concept for the Sand Mage Archetype? Time line specifics much appreciated :D

Linna Excel9/10/2014, 6:44:45 PM2 votes

When you created a sandmage, what brought you to the concept of controlling soldiers?

Le Mad Pierrot9/10/2014, 6:11:05 PM2 votes

Please tell me you guys drew from The Mummy movies, at least a little.

AlexDrey9/10/2014, 7:31:53 PM1 votes

As a gamer studying marketing and design, what sort of data influences your design decisions when creating a new champion like Azir? I hope that one day I can work with you guys, so I'd be really interested in getting some insight as to how if at all the creative teams work with other functional teams to develop new characters.

I have a philosophical question:

Is Nasus right? Was Shurima meant to fall?

I always liked that line in his VO, and I like the idea that Shurima was an unsustainable metropolis (probably seen as a utopia at least by some), but I am curious to see what exactly were the flaws that led to Shurima's downfall.
