Where Story Happens.

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the Story and Art board!

If you’re an old soul from the previous boards, you may have noticed these aren't the forums you're used to, and maybe that change is a little intimidating. But we don't want your interactions with other players to be any different than they were on our forums.

If you’re new here, you may be wondering: what IS this place, and what is it for?

Let’s run it down with some guidelines:

  • This is a place to talk about or speculate on existing stories and champions. Digging Xerath’s betrayal of Azir? The rivalry between Garen and Darius? Graves and Twisted Fate’s ongoing tension? Talk about it here!

  • Fanfiction, fanart, champion concepts, and other lovely things like that should NOT be posted here. This board is for discussion on League of Legends’ canon story.

  • Upvote/downvote on content! Votes are your friends! Downvotes should be used for comments and discussions that aren't relevant or don’t add to the discussion - they shouldn't be used to express disagreement with another player.

  • Use those filters! There are filters on each Board that let you sort by Recent, Hot, or Best. We've also implemented a much better search function on Boards. Seriously, it's much more effective than the old forums.

Also, we’ve recently done a lot of story things you may have missed – here are a few links to get the discussion going! CHECK 'EM:

Hope everyone enjoys the discussion here!

This board is for discussion on League of Legends’ canon story.

Because what's canon is an immutable fact that the lore team treats with respect.

Several questions:

  1. When are the updated Shurima full lores going to go live on the website? Azir's name hasn't been added to that page yet and none of the Shurima-affected stories have been updated as of this post (9/22/14).

  2. Will the short lores on the client get a link to the full website story when they're updated? Without that link, the short lores are completely useless in attracting new fans.

  3. Singed's broken lore has been the biggest oversight on Narrative's part over the past two years (since the Soraka and Warwick ret-cons). Will his story be fixed soon, Soon™ or do we have to wait for a rework or the Zaun mega event?

  4. Will Evelynn be retconned out of the Shadow Isles, since she was only given the briefest of mentions in the promo event but totally forgotten otherwise, or will we have to wait until Riot revisits that part of the world to include the Widowmaker?

  5. Does every story from Narrative need to include video and "interactive" assets? What is wrong with the occasional "wall of text" with pretty pictures (like the linked Dev Blog) to tell some of these stories?

  6. What's a "reasonably safe" pace to expect new content from Narrative? We've already seen excuses from other Rioters about "not releasing stuff at the pace we or you want" but what's good for Riot?

  7. Should we continue to use the Lore Discussion forums to talk about story and events in the hopes Narrative will start responding over there or should we bring our discussions here?

Yeah I'm no longer invested in any of the characters.

Batman without his parents dying is not Batman... and the Champs without the league are not the champs.

I can only hope at some point they reverse this idea of no IoW. Until then I'm done.

Oh and for those of you saying that this is just like comic books... it isn't. Comic book have events that spark changes like these. Big massive stories are brought together and concluded with a bang.

This is more of a cold reboot and I for one at least am not buying it... as in I won't be buying RP again... ever.

A Lore Board.

O boy o boy o boy o boy

mh, deleting the story first and then opening a Board to discuss it is somewhat the wrong order - the otherway around it would have made some more sense.

Riven VS Singed

The lore is some of my favorite, a hard working, nose to the grind stone soldier rises to the ranks, to get torn apart by the chemical weapons of a madman, the scenery and sensory torture she witnessed scars her and counted amongst the many dead.. She takes on a life of wandering and seclusion...

THE END

WHAT?!?!

Does she hate Singed? Does she know he was behind it? Does she care?! Does she have any want or urge to find out who is responsible? Does she want to take revenge on them? Question them? Kill them?

Then all of a sudden that storyline fades... And we have

Riven VS Yasuo

Both have wind abilities (each thinking they were the only one to posses such power). You killed my brother or you killed the old guy I was sworn to protect.. Either or...

THE END???

Okkkkkkaaaaayyyyyy...

Now what?! Are they rivals? Are they partners? Is there any type of understanding or want to learn about one another? Or just thoughts of violence, bloodshed, and each wanting to see the others head removed from their body?

I feel Riven is involved in two of the better story lines (currently), yet neither have closure, neither have follow up and both seem to trail to a dead end...

😞

Aaaaand dropped There is no other point of view. There is no "personal motives". You have ruined Xerath Riot. I'm done

  • Fanfiction, fanart, champion concepts, and other lovely things like that should NOT be posted here. This board is for discussion on League of Legends’ canon story.

These days, it's kinda hard to tell what League's canon story even IS. This may sound sarcastic, but I'm actually being 100% honest. With so many retcons going around, but only affecting some things, it's virtually impossible to tell what's canon and what's not, and without either some sort of list of details stating EXACTLY what stays and what goes (which Riot's said they want to write actual stories, not index pages) or a sudden 3000% increase in productivity, it'll be years before we actually manage to cover all the things that may or may not have changed, assuming we get to them at all.

  • Use those filters! There are filters on each Board that let you sort by Recent, Hot, or Best. We've also implemented a much better search function on Boards. Seriously, it's much more effective than the old forums.

Yeaaaah, I'm gonna be honest, I don't have a damned clue what those filters even mean, even though I've tried asking multiple times. :X Specifically, I haven't a clue what the meaningful difference between 'hot' and 'best' is. So telling me to use them is not helpful. Not everybody frequents Reddit, which is the only other place I've seen filters like that before (and I don't understand them there either).

FoolishGnome9/22/2014, 10:55:03 PM10 votes

""Does this mean older story efforts like the Journal of Justice and League Judgments are meaningless? Of course not. In the same way that we can go back and enjoy old books, shows, films, art, and comics that have been superseded by more recent interpretations of the same material, League’s original lore remains a cherished part of its history. From comic books to classic literature, exploration of the same creative space in vastly different ways is a natural part of storytelling.""

I am still confused on what is canon and what no longer is canon in terms of lore. It's hard to discuss anything because everything seems to be uncertain at this moment, besides everything pertaining to the Shurima event. What I have taken from the quote from the dev blog. Everything post-Shurima event will now be canon, and everything pre-Shurima event should be treated as a different universe or a different telling of possible future events? (similar to comic books I guess?)

I suppose I would like a more concise or better clarification on what aspects of "old" lore is being kept and if we should just remember the "old" lore in fondness, or if we should still draw from it for discussions on the current lore.

What's going to happen with the champions that had their Lore changed to fit in with the Shurima Event, but as yet only have a few sentences of Teaser info?

I'm looking at Skarner, Nasus, Renekton, etc.

I figured those would get fleshed out as the event progressed, but I don't recall seeing any changes as yet. I am assuming there are plans to fill them in. Are you able to confirm/deny?

I'm interested in this knowledge as Skarner had some of my favorite lore and was one of the only champs affiliated with the Crystal Scar area, so I'm curious about his new...form?

So, I take it that this, not the old Lore Discussion forums, will be where Narrative will start communicating with their long neglected fans?

Boatmeal9/24/2014, 12:49:50 AM8 votes

Can Riot not make another terrible decision in their story making? They're downplaying so much of the lore, I just don't understand. :^(

Smug Gandalf9/23/2014, 12:25:19 AM7 votes

So are the shurima champs like rammus and ezreal- are their lore's going to stay puny, undetailed and unfinished now that the shurima event is over? i was actually expecting new verses/chapters/paragraphes for each new chapter of the shurima event.

The Red Warden9/22/2014, 10:55:02 PM7 votes

Riot writers my only desire of you is to do something with Bilgewater since right now what it exactly is , is unclear. In my regard it is as confusing to understand what exactly it is, is it a pirate state or just a port town? Does it have a government or does everyone follow influential leaders?

Tapu Fini9/23/2014, 6:01:04 PM7 votes

My primary concern with lore as it seems to be happening, is simple.

Where will players find all of this information a year from now? New players won't even know all of this exists; there's no mentions of it in the client, so how do they even know about it unless they take it upon themselves to dig?

Considering the negativity surrounding the lore retcons, how would you suggust the player base express their disagreement?

Hmmm...I feel like this whole lore transition could've been handled much better than just suddenly going "Oh, yeah, there's no more League or Institute of War". Perhaps a lore-based explanation can be put in? Perhaps it could be something akin to, say, this: http://soraka.blogspot.ca/2014/09/tales-of-valoran-44.html

To clarify, perhaps something happened AT the Institute of War, perhaps something catastrophic, to make all these summoners realize that they never actually had any power/control over what happened in SR or Howling Abyss or whatever. They were glorified spectators, making things up for themselves to fuel their own egos and delusions. Perhaps some strange magical artifact they brought in made them insane over time, planting the falsehood of their powers in their heads? And that, very recently somebody (cough NEW THIEF CHAMP cough) stole said artifact and broke that whole illusion? This would leave us with a big dilapidated building (because summoners were too busy hallucinating that it wasn't already a dump) full of psycho mages-to-be that had just been staring into crystal balls to watch champions kill each other over and over, with no relation whatsoever to what actually is happening. After the realization of this shocking truth finally sets in, the Institute of War decides to become an entertainment organization, hocking "What if?" matchups of the world's real heroes and villains against each other in relatively even matchups.

And, renaming themselves after the riot that initially broke out when they all realized they were deceived by that strange artifact, they rename themselves Riot Games.

So now that the shurima event is over is there just a short delay on the lore being update in game? cause now I have an idea aboutAzir Xerath Renekton Nasus Sivir Cassiopeia but they arn't the only characters involved and all of their lore is still only 2-3 sentences and honestly I look to lore to get about 30% of my how to play the champ feel cause that is something I love about league is I always feel like I am playing better when I am playing the character right thematically.

For example when I play WW I think of a man who has lost his mind to the beast and hunts down his pray and seeing them weak only makes him hungrier and then I just run around and nomnomnom and he hunts on the fields of justice because thats where he can hunt without repercussions

now I keep hearing that the lore is getting a complete overhaul and I am kinda sitting on the fence going OOOOooo where is this leading but at the same time I love the idea that the IOT was made to stop wars that wiped the land clean and it makes sense as to why all these amazing characters are running around fighting.

I am just scared that all the characters are just going to suddenly not have a reason to fight and the only reason they are fighting is because I am a summoner and they just have to obey me. I don't want to feel like a puppeteer I want to feel like I am working in tandem with to stalk the prey and we earn the trophy together not, "I did it using this blank faced puppet who happens to have skills qwer and they do things. Yay me." I just want a lore that I am bonding with my champ instinctively rather I pull out monster a to defeat monster e. I don't want a trading card game in theory I want a Summoning ritual where I go in cause I want to hunt or because I want to laugh as the enemy realises they don't do jack to me or feel the terror I inspire with an apc or adc. cause I feel the current lore ties the game together thematically

like before when they entered the fields of justice and fought they knew they were facing an enemy for a cause and its obvious you were done with the IOT with gnar cause he literally just kinda ran into rengar one day ... woooo ... -_-. I mean as funny and character defining as it was it said nothing about who he is or why he is fighting AT ALL in the league

I don't want a series of faces I want warriors with causes

so just give me a reason I am playing this game other than I like the gameplay cause I can switch to a game that pulls me in thematically as well and has the same gameplay league of legends is my favorite game right now because its not just a game against some people online thats fun its because for an hour at a time I ME MYSELF can be the terror of the void fighting the might of Demacia and its not just redeyeobi vs 92Slaanesh

Me vs you is boring if its just masks

But the Glorious Executioner vs The plague rat is amazing

The the man who awoke at the bottom of the sea and has made a deal with powerful magicians to track down his friends that abandoned him to die in return for using his newfound strength in combat Vs A living nightmare that has been trapped and forced into combat with the threat of it escaping lingering in the backs of everybody's minds as they fight is Legendary and why I play this game.

Don't take that away from us

What is the deal with the Reborn thing I am seeing, does it have something to do with a sion rework? I am thinking that the statue looks like him and the story sounds like something he would do.
