Honest question: Is RIot actually just too lazy to fine tune heals directly instead of using GW?

Or is this the result of Rioters having diffrent opinions on this topic and them being unable to discuss this properly?

Please help me understand.

I've probably read all of Riots comments, at least those i could find, on why they are using Grievous Wounds and it's just not convincing. You don't need Grievous Wounds to reduce heals, you can tune healing spells directly to make them scale in a FAIR way, fair for both sides. Grievous Wounds actually PREVENT healing from ever becoming fair for both sides.

PS: I would very much appreciate if you could leave a comment if you disagree or dislike this thread for any reason so we can actually discuss it like reasonable human beings. Your downvotes mean nothing to me.

GW exists because the self heal and life cost of spells exists.

Vladimir or Zac or Mordekaiser or DrMundo or Aatrox

Couldn't exist in their current forms if you just adjusted out Grievous wounds and changed life costs; It would imbalance how their kits interact with pulling minion aggro, jungling, and healing that damage back.

Furthermore, Grievous wounds adds a dimension to the game that punishes players who refuse to build smart. It's amazing how many teams made up of Warwick Darius Akali Soraka ..... literally have the other team build no Grievous wounds. It makes people choose.... do I want to lessen my damage in exchange for being able to heavily limit the heals of these monsters, or do i want to risk it?

Also, there's a conundrum with item 3033 and item 3036 : it makes people choose to do more damage to tanks, or to remove heals from targets. If there was no GW, item 3036 would be the 100% meta, which means building any HP at all would be a liability to your health in a fight.

Furthermore, Varus and Katarina have on board Grievous wounds in their kits. It's part of what makes them special.

To be perfectly honest, outside of Soraka, I find all healing abilities balanced. They're usually low impact on an average CD, and only really heal a few hundred hp.

The real problem in terms of sustain is Lifesteal.

Why cry about Soraka healing for 500 every 3 seconds when ADCs can pull out the same HP/S just by auto attacking?

Skills are meant to be impactaful, when you use it, the tides should change depending on its use. If they just flat toned it down, it would be gimping a champion. That said, a well designed game has counterplay for things, so add GW.

Don't like gw? Buy more healing power or whatever it is called.
