My Final Thoughts on losing LP in ranked because of an AFK player(s)
After two different posts and tons of math I have come up with a solution to the problem of losing LP because of a stupid afk player in ranked games. It’s unfair for people to lose their LP because of an afk player(s). So after making two posts and learning a little bit more about how LP works I’ve come up with rules and an equation. These will allow victims of afk ranked games to lose a little less LP and give the afk player additional punishment for leaving a ranked game. I tried to make everything as simple as possible to understand and even threw some examples in there. So now let me introduce you to the LPLP (League Points Loss Program)
- The LPLP only applies to ranked games as it is an LP issue.
- Only players who go afk more than 3 times in one week can be counted as an afk player in this program. Additionally it only counts if they are afk at the end of the game. This rule helps those people out who have an accidental internet shutdown.
- Being afk in any game mode (not just ranked) will count as one of your 3 strikes towards this program.
- If you have gone afk 3 times in one week you become part of the LPLP. To get out of the program, all you have to do is not go afk in any game mode for 10 days. After this you will be taken out of the program.
- If you are in the program and you play a ranked game, you can only be counted as afk if you have been gone for more than 7 minutes.
- If you return at anytime during the ranked match you will no longer be considered afk unless you leave again for another 5 minutes and onward.
- These rules are strictly for lost games. Wins do not apply to this.
These rules make it to where only players who frequently go afk are considered afk in the LPLP. Now for the hard part. The equation. For this equation we will be using the following.
Symbols
N = number of afk players L = amount of LP remaining player lost T = beginning LP loss reduction F = total LP loss reduction
15% is the base amount of LP loss reduction. That 15% is multiplied by (N) the number of afk players. This total is the “beginning LP loss reduction”. For every 5 LP the non-afk player lost, 1% will be added to the (T) “beginning LP loss reduction” leading to the (F) “total LP loss reduction”. (L) represents the amount of LP the non-afk player lost. LP reduction will be applied to ALL players who did not go afk on the team. The equations are simplified below.(note that all decimals are rounded to the nearest whole number)
(15 x N) + (L / 5) = T Now add a decimal to the front of the answer (T) and multiply it by L. .T x L = F Finally do L - F = new LP amount (I’ll walk through it on the first equation)
Now I will use this equation in two different scenarios. 94 LP will be the total amount of LP that the five players have lost and by the end of the equation there will still be a loss of 94 LP across the board. Player 1 lost 10 LP. Player 2 lost 14 LP. Player 3 lost 17 LP. Player 4 lost 22 LP. Player 5 lost 31 LP. In scenario one, only player 5 went afk so we need to calculate how much LP loss reduction each of the non-afk players get. Just plug in the numbers.
Player 1: (15 x 1) + (10 / 5) = 17 Now we add the decimal and continue .17 x 10 = 2 (rounded from 1.7) Next we subtract (F) 2 from (L) 10 10 - 2 = 8 Now Player 1 only loses 8 LP. Now for the rest of the equations without a walk through.
Player 2: (15 x 1) + (14 / 5) = 18 (rounded from 17.8) .18 x 14 = 3 (rounded from 2.52) 14 - 3 = 11 Now Player 2 only loses 11 LP
Player 3: (15 x 1) + (17 / 5) = 18 (rounded from 18.4) .18 x 17 = 3 (rounded from 3.06) 17 - 3 = 14 Now Player 3 only loses 14 LP
Player 4: (15 x 1) + (22 / 5) = 19 (rounded from 19.4) .19 x 22 = 4 (rounded from 4.18) 22 - 4 = 18 Now Player 4 only loses 18 LP
Now we still have to make all the LP balance out to 94 LP. So we add all the final LP loss reductions and the afk players amount of LP. 8 + 11 + 14 + 18 + 31 = 82. To finish up, we subtract 94 from 82 and get 12. This is the amount of LP that is added to the afk players LP making him lose a total of 43 LP. This may seem like a lot, but he had a lot of LP to begin with and he only lost an extra 12 LP which is well deserved for making four other players lose their LP and possibly their rank. The next scenario is simple and is only to provide a little more insight about how the system would work. Now every player has gone afk except for Player 3. This time the equation is:
(15 x 4) + (17 / 5) = 63 (rounded from 63.4) .63 x 17 = 11 (rounded from 10.71) 17 - 11 = 6 Now Player 3 only loses 6 LP.
10 + 14 + 6 + 22 + 31 = 83 94 - 83 = 11 Since 11 is an odd number it cannot be evenly distributed to all 4 of the afk players. So instead of giving the extra point to one afk player we will return it back to player 3 giving him a total of 7 LP lost. Now Player 1 lost 12 LP. Player 2 lost 16 LP. Player 3 lost 7 LP. Player 4 lost 24 LP. Player 5 lost 33 LP.
People who get flamed in a ranked match will be less likely to quit because they wont want to gain more LP for going afk. All the LP is still here and none was just thrown away since that is not how LP works. The rules make it to where only players who deliberately go afk often will be put into the LPLP system.
Final note: these are all just examples. All the percentages may or may not need to be changed according to how Riot would prefer. I chose 15% as the base amount because I thought it was the most fair way to do it.
I worked extremely hard on this problem and I really think that I managed to make it work out. I know most people don’t enjoy math, but please understand what I have written and give me feedback! Riot please take notice of this! If you don’t like what I have written then at least take note of the general idea that I have presented and build off of it!
