Why is the League of Legends Client so painful and horrible when downloading updates?

Seriously what the hell is wrong with this stupid client.. every time it downloads an update it freezes my entire pc for long periods and i can't do anything else, i never have this problem with Steam, but the League client is ridiculously bad. Last time it took 45 mins of freezes just to download 200mb that added nothing to the game. Every time i see it going through that shitty download stage now i have to immediately shut it down with task manager and start it whenever i am not home. And this is a general problem since the release of that client, its not that its just a few people, the old client had also bad reputation when it comes to downloading but the new one is a lot more horribly made.

Same here. I can barely even open excel or surf a webpage when LoL is updating and it's stuck at the last 0.3mb remaining left to download forever

Same here as well. I have to open and close the client multiple times then always re-allow it access to my windows firewall.

This problem is really annoying to a gamebreaking point and Riot deleted the technical support boards for some reason... so we can't even post there about these issues anymore

There's worse download clients out there, I'm not one to kiss Riot's ass, but in the way of their client it's still not bad. Worse clients include:

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn/Heaven's Ward/Stormblood - which requires some users to use VPN in order to download a specific packet.every.single.expansion. Without fail.

Planetside 2 - much slower than league and you can't even really play or do anything while the client is downloading, unlike League.

There's more but you get my point. What seems to be happening is that your computer is getting low on cache space, try running a registry/cache cleaner, or check your back ground processes. Your CPU might be getting bogged down.

I've played with the release of the original client, the "old client", and the new client, so far it's been nothing but improvements for the majority of each of their lifetimes.

Huge number of players have problems with client since the day it came out, old one was not perfect, but it was 1000 times better then this "updated" version, i am still sad that they removed option to keep old client for people who wanted it. Euw one is just ridiculus, i dont remember a single patch where the client at euw didnt have at least 2 approved bugs. And ton of unconfirmed ones. Want old client so badly :(
