Sion Fix(tl;dr at bot)

I think something that might fix Sion(maybe not entirely), is if he could move and/or rotate(like Varus, not Vel'Koz) during his Q(his smash). Because, if you've played as Sion, or against him with an appropriate champ, you'd know there's one thing he can't do above all else, duel. ADCs? not a huge problem, ranged in general? not too big a deal despite him being melee. Other melee champs? horrendously bad to fight. Lets look at the facts, Sion's shield doesn't do enough to protect him much(1-2 hits), and can't do dmg cause it pops before 2 seconds, his E does extremely low dmg in general, even if you hit someone with a minion/monster it's not too impressive(with the minion/monster hitting being impossible at melee range), his AAs are slow, not too weak, but not nearly enough to fight other AD champs, and this all leaves his Q as his only source of good dmg. But here's the thing, his Q is essentially worthless when not charged for at least the 1 second(extremely insignificant dmg at all lvls), now sure there are some cases where he might get the 1 sec off, like right after a slow and if he backs away a bit, but this is on enemies who don't have movement abilities(which, frankly, most AD champs have movement abilities).

To make the point as clear as possible here, look at Yasuo, Yasuo's dash and Sion's Q have the exact same CD at all lvls of their abilities(the mark that keeps Yasuo from dashing to the same target, in his case), with this not including that once off CD Sion still must charge for 1 sec minimum, what this means is that, if he should choose to do so, Yasuo can save his dash for literally every single time Sion starts his Q, and if used on Sion it'll place him neatly out of harms way every single time.(so basically Sion can not 1vs1 a decent Yasuo, period) This wouldn't be such a big deal if Sion had any way to make up for this weakness, but he doesn't.

tl;dr Sion needs a swivel chair for his Q

or give him a small AoE around him + the zone.

Imagine something like the range of Braums ult, maybe smaller AoE around you

Sion is op as hell everyone is just building him the reccomended which is extremely terrible. Build damage and youl see free wins.

tl;dr Q doubtlessly needs to be changed/buffed. It is far too undependable and not that strong.

Hey, I'd like to talk about Sion with you, I was thinking of starting a thread myself. I have been playing a TON of Sion lately, almost universally in the jungle. It sounds like you usually go top. I left top because Sion has so so SO many champs that are bad lane match-ups for him. He cannot trade well (dat Q), he cannot sustain (shield too weak, no innate lifesteal), and his E is so easy to miss with.

I think that reworking his Q is a great idea, it really feels like the only piece of the kit I cannot make good use of outside the jungle. The best use I have seen for his current Q isn't for damage/utility at all, it's for zoning. That Katarina hovering for her reset combo on that low health champ? Start your Q over your buddy, Kat can't attack. It's a pretty strong ability that way if your team is smart, but the problem is it is completely underwhelming almost every other way.

There is one exception: As a jungler because you will always get to max charge you will stun the camp every time from your max charge. After the stun ends start your shield, make sure you pop it before it dies. You will come out with high health no problem. Unfortunately his clear time is abysmal. Ganks can be pretty good but REALLY hard to do before 6.

I like the rotation idea, it would give it a lot more zoning potential and it would be a hell of a lot easier to land it. Another one I saw was to make it go all the way around you; I think that's good but it would require a nerf to range or damage most likely, which I'm not a fan of. I have 3 ideas of my own, I would like opinions:

  1. Q applies a slow during windup, similar to Victor's AOE stun.

  2. Make the AOE on Sion's Q into a square or rectangle, or even an oval, any of which should cover the area around Sion as well. You're SO right about Yasuo and many others Skiren.

  3. Simply buff his Q. Shorter windup time, longer stun, more damage. As it is really easy to dodge I feel it could be buffed safely. Riot said in their spotlight it is best used as chain CC with other champs; This is correct of course, but then again the same is true of Morgana's Q which probably deals similar or better damage and is EASY to land if they are already CC'd.

I think Sion would be VERY strong if his Q had any of the above changes and if he also had a wider width on his E. It is just SO easy to miss with it and it isn't all that strong. Maybe a buff to his E would be nice too. His ult needs no changes, if you use it correctly it isn't just good it's AMAZING. Maybe if his shield could still pop even if it died? That might be too much to ask for.

Anyway, thoughts?

Sion needs some help. His kit has TOO much counterplay:

His Q you've already described. His passive can be completely shut down with CC. His W has his %HP damage, which is important for a tank, but can be nullified by popping his shield. (Nautilus feels your pain, Sion) His ult is easily side stepped even by champs with low mobility, and it has a global sound to alert opponents when he's using it.

Right now it feels like if you do well as Sion , it's not because you were skilled, it's because your opponents were not.
