It's been quite a while, can we get an update on when this will come out, or if it will?

what do you mean? they already said that it will be released when hextech crafting is released. isn't that enough of an update?

Yeah, mastery levels 6-7 will be unlockable via the hextech crafting system. I hear it's out in turkey and it was only going to be tested there for a couple weeks before being brought out for the rest of us, so with any luck it'll be only a few weeks.

Unlockable? Why? Why can't we just earn them?

They needed to make the champion shard thingies to have a purpose even for people who had already unlocked all champs (or who had unlocked all champs they wanted), and unlocking the potential for higher mastery levels seems to be what they decided on.

You still have to earn enough mastery points to actually achieve whatever mastery level, it's just you need to use hextech crafting to unlock the potential for that.

(Of course, this is content not yet released outside of turkey [and I don't know if they have mastery levels 6-7 there yet, might be hextech crafting without that], so theres still potential for things to change slightly before global release.)
