CHAMPION LEVELS 6&7 REQUIREMENTS ARE BAD!

TheMedMystery··67 votes·2,475 views

Okay, I was kind of happy about the new levels because lets face it, reaching lv 5 with a champion didnt take long as long as you played that champion. I thought that these two new levels would be based off of the grading system and i was right. but the part that makes me mad is the fact that i have to hope that i get the champion shard from a crafting box like REALY?! why do i need a shard for a champion that i already own?! why can they have made to where you have to get a certian amount of s rank grades after a match? that way i feel like im doing really well with that champion? In my opinion i see this as another way to make people by boxes and hope that they get a shard that they want. ive opened a lot of boxes myself but i get mostly skins. and considering the amount of content league has will take a long time. I wish they would have made these levels about actually doing well, not based off of luck with the hextech boxes. Amumu

Agreed, getting S, S- and S+ is already enough of a chore along with the obtaining of essence by itself without having to get some random box drop. If masteries are more oriented toward your dedication and skill then what's the point of making something gained with skill come down to luck that's limited per week..?

A prize gained with skill shouldn't be punctuated by luck. This is just a scam to push RP purchases and while I don't have a problem with the shop- I happen to find this particularly scummy.

TheMedMystery3 votes

exactly, but what i dont like is the fact that its so hard to get keys. which is dumb because riot even stated that the more key shards you get the hard it is to get another one. like, wtf? they are already hard enough to get as they are.

The Mighty Spank2 votes

I wouldn't say from personal experience that key fragments are hard to find, but maybe I'm just lucky? It never felt like keys slowed down, just the chests themselves.

TheMedMystery1 votes

For me they are, I go a week without getting a single fragment. maybe im just unlucky :p

RisenDarkKnight1 votes

You must just not play a ton. If you play a ton of games in the first week of the month you can get 9 key fragments, then you'd be lucky to get one more in the next 3 weeks because the chances go down dramatically with each key fragment (and it's capped at 12 key fragments per month).

If you only play a couple games per week the drop off might not be too noticeable, because you probably will only get 6 or so key fragments and the odds of getting one don't get too low until you start approaching 12.

The Crafting was the worse idea Riot has ever created, like seriously why do I have to feel like i am forced to use Riot Points / Real Money to obtain something that I earned. It's bad enough that getting the S ranks are a hassle due to the toxic community and on top of that anyone with the lack of potential to carry games will never get Rank 6 or 7 due to how hard it is to get a S in a game. I personally get S ranks all the time and just got 2 S tokens for Ashe ... just to then find out i have to burn 500 blue essence / 1 perm card / or 1 shard card of that champ ... and lets face it, if you aren't blowing crap tons of RP on boxes, and only earn stuff, you won't have any keys to open boxes let alone get the resources needed to make you say YES i need Rank 6 or 7 on this hero ....and it's even worse if you play a large pool of heros ... a huge excitement turned into a shitty experience.

The real question is why do you feel you need to use money? This is literally an additional opportunity to earn free stuff on top of what already existed.

NineTailedMystic3 votes

Mastery sytem wasn't free before, but now completely gated by a "gateway" system. "you know you wanna some boxes, just 195 RP!"

BloodyTompon1 votes

Gated or not, Mastery was and still, is free in that there it is all attainable without spending IRL money. Secondly, my reply was to crafting. Which again, was and is free. To repeat my other comment, crafting (and soon to be mastery) is literally an additional opportunity to earn free stuff on top of what already existed. I'm not even using literally in the b.s. figurative sense. It is legitimately a new way to earn stuff for free Don't get me wrong, I have no qualms with him paying real money for it, but to complain that Riot created a system that forces people to pay is asinine. It's completely opt in. That's like saying Marvel force me to attend the cinema to watch Captain America because I couldn't be arsed waiting for it to be torrent-able: It's fine that I spent money, but its a load of bollocks to claim I was forced to.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

Except there is no content from Masteries 6 & 7, just the sense of achievement they bring.

BloodyTompon1 votes

I never said they have content. I didn't even say Mastery has content, let alone 6 and 7. And guess what? It's still free.

NineTailedMystic1 votes

You know what else is free? The game. A person is limited to 4 boxes/keys per month without purchasing. It is entirely possible to not rank your chosen champion up to 6 or 7 solely because you didn't roll a champ shard. So until they release the IP purchasable champion shard, it is an asinine gating to the Mastery system whose sole purpose is to try and get you to buy boxes.

DorkunedAuras6 votes

So, they're saying they're going to be releasing a thing in the shop that you can buy for IP and RP that'll give you a random champ shard. This makes it both an IP sink and a place to burn excess blue essence at the same time.

The Queen Viper2 votes

... will probably get released alongside with soloQ and Replays.

DorkunedAuras2 votes

No, this is definitely a thing that's happening.

Also, Replays have been confirmed to be getting worked on with the new client, we've found a good amount of data referencing it.

BloodyTompon2 votes

Where/when were replays confirmed?

DorkunedAuras1 votes

On surrender at 20 a while ago, during one of their things about the new client. They were data mining, and found stuff that was very obviously the framework for a replay system. Nothing direct from riot, but there was nothing else it could be.

BloodyTompon1 votes

Do you have a link?

and the tribunal

BloodyTompon1 votes

Meanwhile they're cheapening the current IP sink of Runes :O Soon I can catch them all! Riot's been very clever lately IMO. Presenting a much more holistic focus to their game with the changes that are out and those that have been explicitly stated are coming.

RisenDarkKnight2 votes

I gotta say though, I was hoping that the IP sink and blue essence/champ shard sink we'd been waiting for would be better than this. It's basically just a barely-earned emote. IDK what I was expecting, but I'm sure all the people who spent money on hextech crafting despite having all champs are feeling some regret, as this is pretty disappointing if this is all Riot meant when they promised them something to spend their champ shards/blue essence on.

MrWasjig1 votes

You're still required to BUY something and unlock the next level.

Like why do I need to BUY Mastery 6 & 7 rather than just fucking earn it through...oh I dunno, playing well? I have 147K Points on Thresh! (I've seen some even more ludicrous numbers from some players)

But never mind let's just link a system ostensibly about mastery to an RNG system of bullshit. Besides who said something called Mastery had anything to do with skill, besides the dictionary.

DorkunedAuras1 votes

you're thinking very narrow mindedly. Think about this as well, for years long time players have been asking for something they could burn their hundreds of thousands of IP on, well now they have a renewable thing to do that with.

MrWasjig1 votes

I appreciate the efforts of trying to implement an IP sink, but having tons of worthless F2P currency is something that occurs across countless (if not every) F2P game. (So no, i'm not thinking narrow mindedly)

But it still makes no sense that I'm required to pay to unlock something that's supposed to require good play. It's like saying "Good job you passed your exams! But we won't let you have the qualification until you cough up the dough" (Which is the case with Universities but my point is there). Yes yes I realise it's F2P currency but it's the principle that has my nark on. How are so few people seeing this?

CoronaGulp2 votes

Wrong. Please read the patch notes before you jump to conclusions.

The Sword Saint1 votes

You're supposed to have a hard time getting high champion mastery and have the amount of high masteries you can get be limited. That way, seeing which champions you have max mastery rank on actually means something because its a lot of effort and hoops to hop through, forcing you over time to narrow your efforts down to just your real main(s).

Minarde1 votes

Threadly reminder that Riot hasn't even announced a rough timeframe for enabling Champion Mastery in Treeline and ARAM. RGM modes somehow took priority over permanent game modes. Players can apparently show skill and dedication in temporary modes like Hexakill or URF, but not in ranked TT.

Silver Fluffenbu1 votes

I don't know if it's bad, but it is completely arbitrary.

Thoicc1 votes

I agree that they are bad but they are still fun to have. just achieve them a different way. maybe getting an S will help you move up the the next level. thanks riot

Occams Raiser1 votes

Its a business i suppose. They don't do shit out of the kindness of their heart you know. I hate it too. But everything they do is a ploy to make you buy into playing more.... never forget.

ModAcademy Kayn1 votes

People need to go reread the Champion Mastery patch notes again, and look at the very bottom of it.

Riot said that they would incorporate a way to buy the shard from the shop somehow of course if they actually do this is up in the air knowing riot but they did say that you could buy the champion shard

Only Play Darius1 votes

Well they also said they would incorporate solo queue.

Only Play Darius1 votes

Funny, a few months ago I got downvoted when I said Hextech crafting would start ruining the game.

Are1 votes

You mainly get skins from chests? I'll trade you my RNG luck.

No need to worry OP. They're looking into selling champ tokens in the story that are 2100 IP that give you a random shard.

Krigjer1 votes

From a business standpoint, it was a genius thing to do to make you have to buy boxes. I know two friends already that have purchased boxes just to get more essence.

From a player loyalty point, it was an incredibly shitty thing to do. I personally got really lucky and had enough champions to disenchant for level 6 on my main, but level 7 will require me to buy boxes. ugh.

Mishli1 votes

you can break down any normal champion shard to get blue essence, then use that to get the mastery rank... i see no issue, at least it gives a purpose to getting champ shards in boxes

Athenes Lulu1 votes

I don't mind if you have to get S-/S to get a better mastery.

Blue essence? Yeah, that's shit, though if Riot is actually generous enough and let us buy shards with IP, then I'll give them a chance. Though unlikely to be released anytime soon, we all know how little they care about IP sinks.

What I'm not happy though, is the absence of the mastery points you need. It's as if... no one cares about how dedicated someone is with a champ, let alone 478k+ on Lulu :/
