To Riot and Those Enjoying the Current Meta

I want to ask some legitimate advice.

How do you suggest playing in the current meta specifically for the sake of fun?

I used to play League a lot. I enjoyed improving my performance each game, analyzing my stats after to see where to improve because I wanted to perform well when I would play with friends.

I specifically enjoyed playing champs who used slightly more subtle tactics to win the game overall rather than go 10/0 vs my opponent in Lane. Examples including playing teemo and mind games around making my opponent so terrified of a potential mushroom that one of a few things would happen. They'd call the jungler and I'd waste their time so my jungler could get a lead, they'd get frustrated and leave lane and I'd split push, or they'd be stuck under tower trying to farm between blinds. I also felt successful in other lanes under certain conditions. Such as successfully being a disruptive cc tank. Or properly warding in order to get information on the jungler. Our even simple stuff like flash juking Zed shuriken after having R pressed on me to burst him with a combo of my own as lux or some other immobile mage.

Nowadays I tend to reach points of frustration with the game that I don't want to reach. It's a very large amount of stress I don't feel should come from any game and it's always sourced when I tend to feel useless in a team. No matter if it's win or lose, if I'm doing extremely poorly then I'm upset because I let my team down.

I personally feel like it's because game damage is to high, especially when I'm playing the immobile types of champions I enjoyed playing at one point. It seems like if I get hit by one form of CC at all then I'm dead before I have a chance to get free even if flash is up.

I understand Riot must have their reasons, and I understand someone out there must enjoy the current state of the game so I'm legitimately asking for advice here. Do I just need to get better? Do I need to force myself to play the hyper mobile champs just so I have more than flash to escape? More than anything I simply want to be able to enjoy the game without having the 50-50 toss up of either doing really well or feeding.

The game only starts to get fun for me when I duo with friends in normal's because then I have someone to vent to or laugh with at good plays

When I play alone the game feels dull and hateful lol

Thats just my advice, start to friend cool people in games and party with them

Your teemo example shows the misunderstanding of many players who have played this game for a while.

You used to play this game at a level that people did not understand how to lane against teemo or how to counter his shrooms but through you just playing the game you are placed against people of equal skill and since you are experienced so will they and with that in mind the mind games of teemo are predicted and countered.

The majority of the damage in the game is avoidable when the game is played correctly can you give examples of situations that you find frustrating ?

I agree with you that I think the over emphasis on damage is at an extreme right now and the resulting meta has collapsed the usefulness of more champions than any other meta I can recall over the years but truth be told meta is driven more by preference then effectiveness.

People don't play high damage champions because they are more effective, but because people have always in larger numbers prefered to play high damage champions. It's as much a mentality thing as anything and I really do believe a big part of the reason that Assassins are so effective and have high winrates is as much caused by their damage potential as it is by the fact that people play these champions at a very high skill level because they train and put the hours into them.

I play Malphite and I can tell you that I have played against champions like Vayne, Zed and Shen in that lane and skill is a huge factor. I have both utterly crushed these champions and been completely dominated by these champions without adjusting tactics, just doing my standard assassin response.

I also firmly believe that it is far more common today than at any other time for players to stick to their main despite bad match ups. I firmly believe that most matches are lost at champion select.

Finally I think a big part of the "unhappiness" factor people have with the game is caused by the match making routines. I look at the matches I won and the matches I lost and its very easy to see that based on records, masteries and statistics that these matches where decided by the match up. Aka the matches I win I win because I can clearly see that I was matched up against a weak team and vice versus.

I feel like if you are enjoying splitpushing/wasting enemy jnglers time, this meta is right for you. Teemo is underperforming tho, but I stll like to play him from time to time to tilt my enemy.

If you are enjoying cc bots, Nunu, Sej, Rammus and Mumu are performing really well in soloQ. For support, Naut is having the best stats from them, but Ali, Leo, Thresh are performing ok.

I’m maining midlane for now and I’m having fun mainly with immobile champs(Xerath, Ziggs, Velkoz and Rumble).

Every mistake is punished bcs of high dmg, which isn’t bad thing imo.

If you’re not having fun, I would just switch to something else, for me it’s Dota and after few games, I’ll start feeling similar things like with LoL so I’ll switch back and so on.

Playing with friends is also way to have fun.
