Swain buff ideas.

Starting off, I haven't played swain in a while, since I was busy trying out other champs like Jhin and Mordekaiser (and Jungle thresh for some stupid reason). But I didn't stop maining him, even though I said I was going to main mordekaiser I am sort of having second thoughts, I want to be the birb god of whatever server I am in. Anyway, one thing I can say is that he is a little underpowered at the moment, the reason how I climbed with him to silver is because I know how to combo him, but ONLY to silver at this rate, because I know there is only an extent that I can go with a champion that is a little underwhelming at this rate normally. This isn't just for me, but for any other swain main out there. Swain had a great and near perfect rework, we aren't letting that go to waste.

Starting off let's just go over what can be left alone.

Passive: His passive is fine, I don't want a passive to do a crazy amount of damage just for free and cc, it is fine as it is... Takes a little strategy but its main prize is giving you a soul fragment, and pulling enemies closer to you, that's all I care about. And opponents that die nearby you give you free soul fragments anyway is a nice touch for sustain. You don't get a crazy amount either, neither does the active passive proc (the pull), it doesn't do much additional damage which is perfectly fine.

Q: His Q is fine as it is. It does really strong damage, and is spammable, but its damage only increases if more than one bolt hits opponents. Besides this is his main tool of dealing with melee champs too, so I don't want it to make him easier against melee champ players, or making him a nightmare for melee champs to deal with.

E: Swain's e is alright, it had damage on both phases of the attack along with an aoe root on its initial impact on the way back, I am perfectly fine with this ability as it is damage-wise.

Now for what needs to be changed.

W: One thing I don't like about Swain's w is the range. Now first off, it has strong damage, but it has an easily noticable aoe with a channel that makes it easy to dodge, so that's fine. But, the range is a little underwhelming and gives away swain's location since its range is a lot less than I would imagine. My idea is having it also increase cast range radius by level, sort of like how upgrading aurelion's E works. I don't want to walk a few more meters just to try stealing the baron, oh I made it- oh nevermind they got it because I had to move... Riot said you can use it to check red and blue buff, even dragon, but you would have to walk a fair distance in order to get it in range of your w to reveal it. Your supposed to be the master tactician, not a marathon runner.

Ultimate: The thing that I liked about old swain's ult is that it made you feel powerful, like you were unstoppable. Now this ult at this rate sort of feels like Aatrox's new ult on his release, just a way to survive. It's not that strong either with the heal or the DoT AoE around him, plus it can only go up to 3 targets at a time. Old swain's allowed him to drain health from EVERYTHING around him, but I am not going to those drastic measures since we already have a skillshot root and a spammable shotgun hand. Increase the max opponents drained to 5, and don't increase the damage at all, only the healing by a TINY bit since there is like already 5 things you can drain health from. Keep demonflare (his recast) as it is, that is what turns around team fights and isn't like... neeko's ult (thank god).

Swain, like Annie and other short range mages, needs either significantly better sustain or significantly better damage to make them actually outburst any other mages or assassins in the game to make up for their total lack of mobility.

Right now Swain and Annie are good for one thing, and one thing only, and that's getting of an ult on the back line, most often only possible with flash. Other than that, they are outbursted by assassins in lane and poked out of lane by longer ranged mages.

They have all the risks and drawbacks of short range but none of the damage or survivability payoffs.

You know something's wrong when a Sylas has more range than you and does both more damage and has better survival.

At least unlike Annie, Swain has better waveclear, but it's still nothing to write home about and all other mages can poke him out while matching his wavepush.

IMO Swain's sustain could use serious buffing, either by giving him a beefy heal conditional on landing multiple bolts on an enemy and making the fragments heal him more. His ult should also be improved at least in damage against isolated targets, because quite frankly it sucks at lv6, you just get killed through it before it even can trigger Demonflare.

I think they should buff Swain’s early game. Pre-rework Swain was unique in the fact that, like Leblanc, he was one of the only AP early game powerhouses. Right now, he doesn’t have a niche, as he is just another AP mid-late burst mage. If they put more power into his E early game, maybe buffed his AD, and made the mana refund on Q stronger, I could see him as an early game lane bully who tries to get a lead and close out the game before he falls off.
