Malzahar Passive Op

Arsonicace··19 votes·4,810 views

Riot needs to fix Malzahar's passive, just played a game with a top lane Malzahar on the enemy team and every single time we fought him he had his stupid passive active meaning that he was spell immune. Especially seeing as the only way to stop malzahar is to cc him when he ults or tries to this is especially bad for his balance. Now he has become too powerful seeing as he will constantly shrug off other ap champtions and will become the one mage who can't be taken down by cc anymore.

To be fair, they really nerfed a lot of his damage to make up for his passive, outside of prolonged engagements where you are able to refresh e a couple times.

I agree that his passive feels really shitty to fight against. Especially for melee.

This is the thing. He does less damage now, all for a passive and gimmick (W summoning voidlings) that are more toxic to fight against than his pre-rework kit XD I used to be able to go syndra against him, knowing that if I could whittle him down, I could just stun him and ult him. Now it's hard for me to do squat cause he has that passive so stunning him is just impossible, unless I W him first, which then he'll just stay way back until his shield is up again....

Who thought this rework would be less toxic than old malzahar....?

The whole rework is terrible. The old version was better designed and balanced. I understand they want the champion to be easier to balance, but to completely uproot his identity and change it was a terrible decision.

Once they nerf his voidlings enough that he can't cheese the jungle he's just an unimpressive mage, with an unsatisfying kit. You feel like your success is purely up to the cooperation of your voidlings, and the stupidity of the enemy to engage while your swarm is massed. Over all he's just unreliable.

In the end, reverting the whole rework would be better for him from how i see it.

reverting

We all know Rito is Revertphobic.

They never will, much less for an anti-LC$PLAY$ champion like Malzahar. In fact, I could go as far as to say this rework was purposefully made to nerf him later.

Auto attack him once and then use whatever skills you want on him. It's like a banshee's veil that gets popped by auto attacks.

To be fair, most champions in the top lane tend to be melee.

TO be fair, most melee champions have some type of ranged ability with lower than a 20sec CD (the CD of malz passive)

I would think then, that a GP or a Ez would be a good counter-pick option for the Global Ult Range to punish him for ulting, along with on-hit Q. Heck, GP has a debuff and great zoning potential.

Malzahar autopushes and cant kill most melee non-glass without going glass melee.

Its like Heimer but less safe and less powerful, tbh.

Also Malzahar is still equally screwed by item 3140 , so you buy that one early and he cant do anything to you.

Banshee's Veil doesn't continue to protect the user for 1 second after popping, which is longer than it sounds in a heated situation.

Which is why you pop his passive before you engage on him. Treat his passive like a yasuo passive

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

Have you been to these boards? Yasuo's passive is also clearly overpowered and has zero counterplay.

Voluug131 votes

lol no one says Yasuo's passive dosnt have counterplay.

That didnt have counterplay when strong was the combo of low cd mobility + passive shield + windwall. They had to gut Yasuo for him to not be an hyperdominant champion in midlane.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Yes, it was a combination of all the things, but outside of Windwall hate threads it was also "OMG he E-Q'd me for half my health and I did no damage in return because he shielded all of it!"

Voluug131 votes

To be fair the E-Q3 combo was unfair as fuck when Statikk wasnt nerfed into a waveclear item and the burst was actually a lot more powerful that currently, not to mention mixed.

when youre in auto attack range, chances are youre not gonna get out of that alive.

Siyther2 votes

gos are ppl really this dumb it only gives reduction on the first damage to hit him be it an auto attack or whatever.cant understand for the life of me why ppl cant figure out to aa him then cc him to death. I hope man that u dont ever even play a bronze 5 ranked game. This type of ignorance unacceptable at any rank. No offense sir but perhaps u should play a game with him b4 u say something is op and realize it is acually a shit abiltiy and wont work 90% of the time against someone with an iq of 5

Astôlfo3 votes

Uh, no. It reduces all damage taken within the first one second it's triggered. Therefore, if you spam an entire rotation of abilities/CC on him within 1 second, all damage from that entire rotation will be reduced by 90%, while all the CC will be nullified.

Dryditch3 votes

So don't spam a rotation of abilities on him in 1 second. Counter Malzahar with poke and you're fine. Even auto attacks work.

Astôlfo1 votes

Or, you'd have to attack him anyways to pop the shield, then back off and wait a second without letting him get away, unless you either want to be killed or you want him to just escape.

Dryditch2 votes

So treat a malzahar with shield like you treat a Tryndamere with ult. You either keep up with him for a second while his shield's up, then cc the shit out of him and kill him or you just let him run away (and not burn any major cooldowns in the process). If you're so far behind that you can't survive for one second while a Malzahar's shield is taken down, you probably lost anyway.

Astôlfo1 votes

Except unlike Trynd, Malzahar's passive CD is 23-4s depending on his level. And even if he doesn't kill you, between suppress + silence, you're not going to be doing much before he either does finish it off or just run back away.

Dryditch1 votes

It sounds like you're just having issues fighting him. Those 4 seconds have to be uninterrupted periods of no direct damage. Throw a low CD spell at him or an auto. His silence is not hard to dodge, and his suppression is on a long enough cd that it shouldn't matter all that much.

If you catch him out, he will die. End of story.

Siyther1 votes

doesnt work that way when i play him at all

MunchCrunchLunch2 votes

no they don't. honestly i never play him but his new passive is unique. cc shouldn't the the solution to everything in this game. nerf his W and problem solved. squishy champion with no mobility.

Yasuo just aa the shield m8

KhaZixTheScyther1 votes

not only is it a cc shield it also blocks damage for the first ability, or auto that hits him when the shield is up. at least with other champions (olafs ragnorak) they still take the damage while being cc immune
