Am I the only one who likes these changes?

I mean, all I see is people saying, "I don't understand how the new runes work.", and, "This isn't fun.". But I really enjoy the runes, you have to take the time to read the detailed descriptions for them, you can't just glance over them and then start complaining about not understanding them. Preseason is a thing for a reason, it gives you time to try out the new features and figure out how they work.

I like the idea behind them. I just feel that they need a bit more polish to make them feel right TBH

Śtone1 votes

Yeah I totally agree with that, I feel the same way too, but no one is really suggesting HOW they can polish them up.

deadlychuck1 votes

Unfortunately. If a poorly constructed system is reliant on its friction to hold it up, then attempting to polish it will cause much bigger issues.

I am enjoying the new rune system also myself. It is a little bit confusing, but it is imo overall better than the old rune system. The BE tied to leveling i am unsure how to feel about yet, so Imma keep playing for a while and see how it goes.

Zerdun2 votes

the BE tied to leveling would be fine if they didn't gut the shit out of the amount you effectively get per game

Śtone1 votes

Exactly, I am pretty borderline on the BE change, seemed kinda unnecessary to me.

I enjoy it, but I am beginning to feel that the game is more snowbally.

The issue might be that new runes mostly now scale with level. Most of the commonly used Runes in the old system did not. That might lead to quite a lead once someone gets ahead. I'm wondering if there's a good fix for that or not, though... it's a definite downside that I did not consider.

Śtone1 votes

That is a good point, it's definitely more snowbally, I didn't think about that. I'm gonna trust Riot with this one though, I feel like they can always just do a mini rework on the Runes if it comes to that. (Kinda like what they did to masteries in the past.)

ModKnightsKemplar2 votes

They can, but I don't want to wait months for a mini rework if it's that big a problem.

I would say that we still need a few weeks to see how things go before we decide about that, though.

You enjoy them because you haven't thoroughly tested them out yet. When you do, you'll realize

"oh, these are nice, but roughly only half of what I had to work with before. Wait, why are we starting at base armor and MR every game? There's no option outside of that one weakass 10 minutes in +8 armor and MR thing in Resolve? Oh...Well, good ideas, but just not enough to work with."

Śtone1 votes

What do you mean I haven't thoroughly tested them out? Have you watched me play my games? I have made multiple rune pages just to try them out, and I see some that don't make sense, but they can always change those.

You're not even level 31 yet, so, you haven't thoroughly tested out the runes. Trying playing enough games to get just one level. You'll see. The game is all assassins now, there's no point in playing any kind of tank, or really a support since you just get deleted instantly. It's frustrating to the point that I cannot believe anyone could like them if they have spent any real amount of time with them.

Śtone1 votes

I am actually level 31, it just hasn't shown up on the boards yet. I mean, to be honest, assassins haven't really been a problem for me, and I do agree that the support runes do seem weaker compared to the others, but I am not sure if i can agree with you on the tanks.

hence why i said they need polish. The resolve skill line with conditioning is an absolute joke and really, really should be looked at.

it would be nice if the proc effects did not feel so bad to use TBH. Rolling pots to get a marginal increase in defense is kinda garbage (5% of the 20 ish armor mid laners start out with is literally 1 @ lvl 1 and at lvl 18 the 80 ish AC would only grant 4 extra armor). I would like to see the base armor of Iron skin and mirror shell boosted while having the % increase just occur naturally around the 10 minute mark.

Conditioning should have it's base resists pulled and instead have a variant of nullifying orb. The bonus scalings would naturally be removed leaving a strictly flat number based shield. This should feel like having a baby hexdrinker, while also keeping the boost to both resists past the 10 ish minute mark.

These three options would give you choices based on what you need. I'm going to get countered by the magical damage this champ can poke me with so i'll pick up mirror shield. Similar argument for Iron skin while conditioning would be best in situations where the enemy champ has limited methods of poking you down and you know you can survive laning phase (winning or low dps lane) or the opponent deals mixed damage (so the other two are marginally less effective).

This would allow a better choice TBH and may even incentivise non tanks picking this tree up as a secondary when they get hard countered so they have better sustain in lane

People aren't complaining about not understanding them. The runes are completely breaking several champions and damage is just ridiculous right now.

I just got one shot as Kog'Maw by a support Bard with Lich Bane because there's 0 MR in new runes for ADCs and insane amounts of damage for everyone. His Q-AA combo was doing over 700 damage at level 10.

I have seen people complain about not understanding them, just play a few matches, and some people will say they don't understand them. Also they can always just nerf the runes themselves, it's really not that hard, and like I said, there's a reason they put these thing before the season starts.

Poor balance has been a problem for the entirety of Season 7. It's not like balance has been a problem since this morning. Now it's just yet another one that tilts the game entirely towards damage and snowballing.

Śtone1 votes

So then why are people acting like it is then? Balance is always going to be a problem, one champ will always be stronger than others, and that one gets nerfed, and then a new one becomes strong and so on. Especially if they keep having new champs and reworks. They also want to keep champs fresh, so weaker ones will get a strong buff sometimes. Balance will just always be an issue.

Season 7 wasn't a "one champ is too strong atm" issue. It was an item that they left broken for 4-5 months, it controlled the entire meta, and destroyed Worlds. They nerfed it for a single patch, then removed the old rune system (including all defensive runes), and replaced the whole system with more damage and hidden power which gets exacerbated by the lack of defensive options.

Śtone1 votes

Okay, well that's another example, items can also be op, it's not just these runes or champions. You're really just digging yourself a bigger hole here.

What hole? They didn't even bother correcting it. That's my point. It was months of extreme imbalance by that one item, and now it's just a new extreme imbalance problem with the rune system.

The biggest problem with item/rune imbalance is that you can't correct it at all as a player. There's no ban option for items or runes.

With something as big as this, I really doubt it, they wouldn't work so hard on something like this, and just let it stay as a flop. Honestly.

The last big update they worked hard on was Dynamic Queue. They had to just remove it.

Śtone1 votes

They replaced it with Flex Queue???

No they didn't. They replaced ranked 5s with Flex.
