It's overloaded and because every mana using mage wants it, it pretty much invalidates champs like Vlad and Mundo. Grievous wounds should be a conscious niche buy. Not something that gets slapped on your boots, because why not.

Thats part of the point. You get it for free. But because at least 1 person on every team buys it, Vlad, Mundo and such are basically unable to function. Whereas the ad version requires you to pick a specific tankbuster item that is far from core.
