Had someone lock in Teemo to counter my Darius last week, and I stomped the demon 7/0 then proceeded to carry the game because he kept overextending into grab range to die in half a second.
He then called me a "Cheater" and ragequit at the 12 minute mark.

colesy1 votesthe point still remains. if you're in a shit league, do you honestly expect people to be able to counterpick and play them effectively? there's good reason people say to stick with what you're comfortable with, and it's because it's far easier to win games playing comfort picks in solo queue than counterpicking, and bronzes/silvers don't normally realise that.

He fed her a couple kills, and when our Shyv jungle said she couldn't help (she was level 4) he went on to TP to bot lane and feed, then mid lane. He did everything in his power to get under our jungle's and mid's skin, but I think we were having too much fun in all chat to bother with his insults.
"We looked up Riven counters on the internet and thought it worked like Pokemon cards! Riven must be hacking!!!" I believe were my words.

SEKAI1 votesYer, a person who knows how to play the even/challenge pick is still better than the guy who has no clue about playing the counter.
Do what you know, generally it produces the best result. I am not saying that one can not learn new things, but if you are just picking up a champ solely for counterplaying purposes without planning to invest some time in said champ, then imo, just don't bother and stuck with who you're cool with, as long as you're not hard countered.
