Malzahar desperately needs a nerf

this guys damage is absolutely out of control...at level 11 I had one doing over 400 alone from his stupid minion in a split second, and the magic damage Mal himself does is just instant death...he's entirely too strong and desperately needs a nerf.

Malzahar has to choose between high damage minions or high damage spells since his Voidling damage scales off of AD while the rest of his kit is obviously AP scaling. He has extremely high damage because he is designed as an assassin of sorts. He's a mage but he's designed to pick one target and delete them immediately - then his kit is all on cooldown.

DON'T TOUCH MALZAHAR

He has no innate mobility (aside from flash, which everyone can get) and he has been classified long ago as a hyper carry. For a long time he possessed some of the most potent 1v1 capability in the game (before people like Zed came along) with his W doing hilarious amounts of damage before it got nerfed; can you say 85% of someone's max hp over 5 seconds with his W skill alone :P?

400 in a split second from his voidling? Can you maybe show this? Even with full AD Malzahar (which sucks btw), he wouldn't be able to do this.

I'm not sure what problem you have with Malzahar, as many other champions can still out-damage him. His waveclear is fairly reliant on his visions, and is fairly immobile with only an awkward silence as CC on a non-ultimate ability.

I disagree strongly with this- the main reason malzahar is seen as so strong in both normals and soloq is because his counterplay requires more teamwork and individual understanding of malzahar and who yourself you are playing. This "high-level" of counterpay required leaves many players frustrated, seeing him as overpowered, when in fact he has quite a few tradeoffs. Learn how to abuse those tradeoffs, and you will find that playing against malzahar is oftentimes an underwhelming experience.

Malzahar feels balanced in every department, but one. His simplicity. His simplicity is too rewarding. The silence is fairly easy to land on 2-3 champs in a team fight, his W is great at tank shredding and lasts far too long. His E is fairly easy to handle, but alone puts alot of free pressure and trading without much effort. His ult is easily interrupted, which is the only positive counter play to his kit. Also his voidling thankfully scales off AD and not AP.

I would just prefer they made his E a skill shot, but has a new mechanic. Perhaps keep the same DoT to it, but if it hits a minion, it can only bounce 3 times, if it his a champion first, it'll deal double damage. Instead of voidlings, perhaps his abilities deal an extra mechanic on the "4th" stack he has. With the exception of his ult. Maybe giving his silence longer duration, or make it a "cross" instead of a "horizontal" pattern. Maybe his W could apply a slow as well? And his E could then bounce to another target after 5 seconds if it hits a champion.

just a suggestion to make his kit more "complicated" but still simple.

at level 11 I had one doing over 400 alone from his stupid minion in a split second

Math time!

Malzahars Voidling scales like this: Attack Damage: 20 + (5 × Malzahars level) + (100% bonus AD)

So, to deal 400 damage at lvl 11 the equation looks like this:

20 + (5 × 11) + (1 × **bonus **AD) = 400 20 + (55) + (1 × **bonus **AD) = 400 75 + (1 × **bonus **AD) = 400 |-75 **bonus **AD = 325 (q.e.d.)

What do we learn from this? You must've faced a fed full AD Malzahar.

and the magic damage Mal himself does is just instant death...

Ok, more math time. So, you faced a full AD Malz at lvl 11. depending on his leveling path his abilities might have looked like this:

Q (Rank 3) = 190 magic damage W (Rank 1) = Hard to calculate. But i guess you know that you shouldn't stand in this thing for too long. E (Rank 5) = 320 magic damage R (Rank 2) = 400 magic damage (given the possibility that he managed to completely channel his ult...if that is the case: where were your teammates?)

Total magic damage of a full combo: 910 magic damage (not calculated MR vs. MPen)

So...what have we learned? Nothing...because you can't expect us to calculate whether Malz is OP or not if you don't give us the following:

  • Team comp
  • Item build
  • The champ you played
  • Counter item build
  • game progress
  • how many mistakes you/your team made (run into fog of war? Stand beside the minion for too long?) ;)

Reading some of these responses this is the impression i'm getting

"sure mal can delete you off the map, but all you have to do is not get deleted."

"mal's ability to delete players is balanced because he can only delete one at a time"

"you clearly made a mistake if you got deleted by mal, and that mistake was leaving your spawn"

"let's do some math shall we? your hp = full, mal sees you, your hp = 0"

malzahar is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too over powered no matter what you guys say you must not have versed a half decent one is you think he doesn't need a nerf

AliceIl7/21/2016, 8:56:47 PM1 votes

No matter what you guys say. If he's designed as an "assassin" of sorts, the he should not have a silence, surpress, and spell immune

Killstrado3/20/2015, 4:05:04 PM1 votes

Maybe a nerf on the length his ult lasts but otherwise I think it might hurt him too much plus don't feed him

Strawberrycocoa3/20/2015, 4:14:26 PM1 votes

Don't just stand there and let his voidling beat on you. Malz has no mobility spells, use that against him. And try to avoid getting caught in his health-shredding pool.
