The Armor and MR Item Changes

"Armor and Magic Resistance Resistances are inherently reactive buys - and the constraint of Negatron Cloak and Chain Vest makes the act of cleverly reacting to your opponent much much harder than it should be All Armor and Magic Resistance items can now be built out of a cloth armor / null magic mantle. Recipes, gold costs, stats and build paths have been adjusted to compensate for the above change. In effect, there is now no meaningful difference between 'Chain Vest/Negatron Cloak' items vs. 'Cloth Armor/Null Magic Mantle' items as they will all build from the same root. "

Riot while this is a good idea its also a bad idea if you don't do it right. For one if we have one item slot left and we need armor and MR we are going to buy a chain vest or negatron cloak if we have the 720g for it. But if we are going to build SV we now have to take a null magic mantle instead of getting the Negatron Cloak. That gives champions that are fed a huge advantage because say the enemy adc is fed early mid game before he gets LW. Now we die faster because we can't buy a chain vest and instead have to opt for a cloth armor.

The way to combat this issue is simple. Make all the resistance items have 3 tiers of upgrades classified as Low, Medium and High with the final Item Completed being classified as Legendary Tier once it's completed.

What do i mean by this well here's a few examples:

Cloth Armor --> Chain Vest --> Warden's Wail --> Randiun's Omen Cloth Armor --> Chain Vest --> Glacial Shroud --> Frozen Heart Cloth Armor --> Chain Vest --> Seeker's Armguard --> Zhonya's Hourglass Cloth Armor --> Chain Vest --> Quill Coat --> Spirit of the Ancient Golem Null Magic Mantle --> Negatron Cloak --> Spectre's Cowl --> Spirit Visage Null Magic Mantle --> Negatron Cloak --> Hexdrinker --> Maw of Malmortius Null Magic Mantle --> Negatron Cloak --> QSS --> Mercurial Scimitar Null Magic Mantle --> Negatron Cloak --> Chalice of Harmony --> Athene's Unholy Grail

Null Magic Mantle --> Negatron Cloak --> Wit's End Cloth Armor --> Chain Vest --> Thornmail

as you can see this makes it easier to to upgrade from a low tier to a medium tier then a high tier and finally a completed item in the end.

and as you can see all the item's can be made into 4 tiers except for wits end and thornmail will require a new item be made that would give MR and Attack Speed for Wits End and perhaps the Thornmail builds out of Warden's Mail or make a new item that gives lots of armor and be classified as a Tier 3 or High Tier Item.

In other words you buy the cloth armor for 300g then upgrade to the chain vest for 420g so the final costs are all the same so all that needs to be done is to let the game just charge you the upgrade difference between both items. this way all the items dont need to be retuned or anything.

You know that item 1031 /item 1057 build out of the respective other item with the cost being the difference to 720? So, to upgrade your Cloth Armor into Chainmail, you'd pay 420 gold.

That is how I feel. I love the chance to buy null magic when I'm short on gold and still build it into something like banshees. But I want to be able to make a 700 gold buy for more mr instead of being forced to buy a low mr item I have to spend 1200 gold to build into a decent mr item

Those build paths are cool but for that to work the price of the said item either had to be reducted or the stats given by the items could have to be increased/decreased acoordingly. Also leave the Hourglass out of the chart since its a AP item (even with some armor)

Also while on the subject let's make Daggers upgrade into Recurve Bows aswell. This way item's like Hurriane and botrk build from daggers which get upgraded into Recurve Bows.

That is redundant in most cases, because Recurve bow is exactly as cost effective as buying two daggers, and has the same stats (2 daggers= 30% AS for 900 gold, recurve bow= 30% AS for 900 gold) right now, recuve bow doesn't have a place in the game because there are no flat AS items that build out of a flat 30% AS component except Runaans and Wit's end.

On second thought make Daggers into Stiletto which build into items such as zeal and stinger and Composite Bow into Recurve Bows.

So something like this:

Dagger --> Stiletto --> Stinger --> Nashor's Tooth Composite Bow --> Recurve Bow --> Hurricane

This way bows are for ranged items and swords are for melee items.

they are only adding cloth armor and null magic mantle to items that don't have it already. They are NOT adding in random chain vests and negation cloaks into existing recipes that don't need them (like seeker's armgaurd).

EDIT: most of the recipes where you added a Chain vest/Negatron Cloak don't have as much armor or MR in their final upgrade even, Chalice into athenes has flat 25, not even close to the 45 of a negatron. Same with quill coat (which, mind you, is being removed from the game like all the there live jungle items)at the final upgrade into SotAG, it still stops at 20 armor, not 45.

umm to fix this all you have to do is give less resistances on the final upgrade and lower the upgrade cost to the final item so everything stays the same as it is now.

The point is to be able to upgrade a cloth armor into a chain vest or null magic mantle into a negatron cloak.

for instance chain vest cost 720g for 40 armor while cloth armor costs 300g for 15 armor. Riot lets us upgrade from cloth armor to chain vest for 320g and you gain an additional 25 armor for only 320g so in the end you still end up paying 720g for 40 armor but it allows us to start from the bottom and work our way up as we see the need in getting more resistance, instead of the "well i'm gonna buy excess resistance just because it's cost effective to save needed gold for future items".

I don't think you read the PBE notes very well.

All Armor and Magic Resistance items can now be built out of Cloth Armor/Null-Magic Mantle.

Wait, what's that word?

All. Every single one. This logically should include Chain Vest and Negatron Cloak.

it doesn't actually clear it up. Are they talking about the final items or just the basic items, or are they talking about both, we don't know because they didn't word it properly so it's a bit unclear. If they stated an example such as upgrading cloth armor into chain vest then we wouldn't be having this discussion.

See this picture? This right here? That has been in the PBE patch notes since I first saw them

wilmer0071 votes

well i didnt see that as i didnt have time, i just looked at the notes not pictures.

anyways 800g for 45 armor is more cost effective than the current chain vest so it's good to see. Hopefully they keep it at about 18g per Armor/MR and not go beyond that.
