How are they able to be so blind to their own toxicity?
In the game I was most recently in, one of our players was complaining about halfway through that it was unwinnable, trying to convince us to surrender. The guy himself wasn't the greatest player, but he was at least putting in an effort and not inting, so I'll give him that. Fortunately no one on the team flamed him, just tried to encourage him to keep trying because it was winnable. We even gave some tips to him on how to do better with his champ (In a friendly manner, not "Why aren't you doing this, idiot?" way). Overall I don't think anyone during the in-game chat tried being rude to him or egg him on.
His chat behavior though...The game was very close in the end, but even in the after-game chat, he just continued complaining. Another player on our team finally responded negatively (Not condoning said player, just keeping the story sensible) and the complainer just blew up on him, making several homophobic comments and topping it all off with "OD on vik".
Things finally calm down somewhat, it's just me and him in the after-game chat, and I decide to ask him why he was being so rude, depressing, and outright hateful throughout that game.
"What are you talking about? I didn't say anything hateful."
Just...How are some people not able to see how much of a negative impact they're making in chat? I know this post is in itself complaining about the situation, but I'm just trying to understand how people can think this way. Anyone have any insight on this?
If you were to analyze it in a 'sane' manner, it could easily be said that it was some of the following possibilities:
A. The person was so hyped up on getting bad matches previously that he/she feels constantly negative to the point they can't shift back to being happy even when their team is snowballing the match with ease. Mostly i feel like this is the NORMAL version of why we got alot of toxic players.
B. They likely are cynical due to something outside of League of Legends so it ends up getting carried into the game, which at least to me, the usual ways to 'remedy' that is to have a exciting fun match or win a few times, League of Legends sadly feels like a Slot machine in that regard, where you lose more money before you hit the jackpot and earn it all back. Similar to being bullied constantly till you get that 'helping hand' that makes things better.
C. Similar to B, the other reason could be they are just using League of Legends to vent any negativity they built up, but even if they do 'vent it out', it just ends up breeding more toxic players as result. Really when your venting frustration its better to use it on a game where you can't be throwing such things about, like a console game.
Ultimately unless they simply find 'pleasure' in being negative, its basically a person like that being too overloaded with 'salt' and they really need to find a proper outlet that works for THEM in getting rid of the salt, then defaulting to a team based game like League, at that point i'd say you should put the keyboard down and play something relaxing or play a more 'mindless' but shenigan sort of game like Overwatch, Team fortress 2, God Eater, Monster Hunter, Hell even something as simple as Maplestory or one of the Phantasy Star Online/Portable games could work as long as it lets you properly focus on some task instead to accomplish, games with single minded simple objectives tend todo wonders.
Different people need different outlets of course, but online games that keeps most of its 'objectives' to earn certain things by putting in the effort to get enough 'tokens' to gain it tend to work better then RNG-sus based ones, at least for myself i could easily calm down after feeling so bad from losing consective matches on LoL so i just swap over to a different game and got my joy back in. Variety is Love and no gamer should stick to one or two games only in life.~

After you learn to balance it enough its relatively easier to get more of the mind set to just "Let it Go" then get tilted when you jump back into League of Legends or similar competitive games. Better to have a chuckle cause someone intentionally jumped off a cliff as Roadhog just to hook pull you down with them in Overwatch
