Global passives are too much power with zero gameplay. Remember how shitty it was to know that you might lose top lane simply because the enemy team had a Janna in bot?

This. They had to go simply because they were too strong/abusable. I think they were neat in theory, but once we started to see professionals figuring out how to abuse them, it became clear simply how strong they were. They're just not healthy for the game at that level.

In order for it to be a passive that you actually feel as having any effect at all, it's got to be too strong. If Zilean's passive was 1-2% global bonus experience, Janna's was 1-2% bonus movespeed, and TF's was a bonus 1-2 gold per 10 seconds, they probably would have been fine to keep in the game. But then, they would be so weak that you wouldn't even notice them doing anything at all. It would basically be a waste of a passive.

Not only did it make some lanes ungankable, Janna's passive could completely turn jungle match ups around.

Phreak said that the global passives granted way2 much hidden power and were easily abused.

Because Hidden power and it goes largely unnoticed and under-appreciated.
