How To Win Ranked Games

**1. Group, Group, and Group some more. ** I CAN NOT stress this enough. This alone decides more ranked games than any other factor. The team that fights together wins together. If you always have a 4v5 because a teammate is either farming top or recalling to buy, you will never be able to win. To best way to turn around a bad laning phase? Start grouping and picking off enemy stragglers. One person refusing to fight with the others is all it takes for an easily winnable game to be lost. Sorry Nasus, having 500 stacks means nothing if your the only one left alive to defend.

2. Play a hyper carry. You might play the best Quinn top in a 200 mile radius, but come late game a fizz will still demolish you. When entering a game you have to go in with the assumption that your other lanes will feed and you will need to pick up the slack. If your champion can't 2v1 with ease when fed you won't be able to carry. Choose a champion that is an excellent duelist as well as teamfighter. Somebody that the entire enemy teams has to play* AROUND YOU *. Ex: Katarina, Swain, Fizz, Fiora, Irelia, Zed, Nasus, Vayne, etc...

3. Do not argue Infighting will never lead to anything good. I don't care if you think your jungler is "a massive **** sucking idiot", do not voice those concerns. You know what happens when 2 people sit around arguing in chat? NOTHING. You are not farming, you are not warding, you are incapable of fighting back. Instead of flashing to safety you'll be typing "Mundo why the fuck didnt you ga...DDDDDDDD" into your chat bar. I can not tell you how many times I have seen people get killed because they were standing still arguing with teammate. When you see two teamates bashing each other heads do your best to break it up. Something as little as "Hey, lets group and not fight" or "Arguing with each other isn't helping, lets just play for now" is surprisingly effective at quelling a debate before it can begin.

4. Do not be afraid to sacrifice yourself for the team This mostly goes out to supports, though everyone can take a lesson. This is going to sound rough, but its the job of a support to die to protect their teammates. If your top concern is protecting your own life then you are doing it very, veryyy wrong. DO NOT use your adc as a meatshield, hiding behind him. Always be ready to intercept the blitz grab or tank the Caitlin bullet. If you're playing leona by all means dive into the enemy team to be melted if it means you can guarantee a good teamfight. Far too often mob mentality takes over where one teammate starts running and the entire team is in retreat. All it takes one person to redirect the tide of enemy aggression to turn a 5 for nothing into a 1 for nothing. Ex: If retreating from a lost teamfight with no real hope of escape, lead the enemy team into their own jungle instead of racing for the safety of your base. By the time they catch you they will be too far away to push your turrets.

5. Do not chase This is one of the easiest traps to fall into: chasing the wounded prey. Do not be tempted by it. Before chasing any retreating foe always asks yourself this question: Is there a more important objective? For example: A teamfight breaks out. The enemy leona initiated, used all her spells and cd's, and retreats into her jungle with 200 hp. SHE IS NO LONGER A THREAT. At that low hp she can add nothing to the situation. However your adc, greedy for a kill, runs off to go finish her. In the 6 seconds it took him to track her down the enemy adc was able to unleash hell uninterrupted. Teamfight lost for the sake of 1 support kill. Never abandon an active fight for a single kill. This also applies for objectives as well. Should 4 members of your team try and chase down a low hp lebanc or get baron in the same timeframe. The answer is obvious but often lost to those in the thrill of the hunt.

6. Do not leave until you have to. The common reaction to getting low in a fight is to retreat and heal. While there's a time and place for that always asks yourself: Can the enemy finish me off? If the answer is no, stick around and add your damage. You might be a 200 hp ezreal, but if the enemy blew every single flash, dash, and jump trying to kill you then you have nothing to fear. Stick around and keep adding damage until you are forced to leave. Just because you are low does not mean you are out.

Any thoughts or further question? Let me know in the comments.

This seems more like a how to win in general thread and not a how to win ranked games thread... It easily applies to normals.

4. Do not be afraid to sacrifice yourself for the team This mostly goes out to supports, though everyone can take a lesson. I disagree. Everyone's job on the entire team is to not help the enemy win (whether that be by killing the enemy so that he/she can't kill of your allies or farm, by not dying, which denies them of getting kill gold by killing you, farming a lane for free, and pushing for objectives, by outfarming your opponents and taking objectives over kills when possible, etc.). If you going in to 'protect' someone gives the enemy a double kill, it was just a bad play period. If you going in to tank a hit turns a 5v5 into a 4v5, it was a bad call. You're also generalizing the support role with this comment. Not every support has the ability to tank hits in a meaningful way.

  1. Group, Group, and Group some more.

oh boi our entire teamcomp lacks cc and we have no tank, lets group and lose all the teamfights because we will bounce off a wolibear while our assasins get peeled by their support

this is straight out wrong you need to pick your playstyle to your champions, if you lack tank but have good dmg and mobility then you want to splitpush and pick ppl off when they are alone or in smaller groups (knowing what is the playstyle of your team and what is the best way for you to counter enemy playstyle is what you should write about)

  1. Play a hyper carry.

look at point 1, every champion competes something, hypercarries usualy have weak lane compared to ppl like quinn so you might just snowball your self on them and then aply the point 1 (mine point 1, your version would doom the guy)

  1. Do not argue

finaly soemthing with sence but you need also to tell your allies what are you doing and why are you doing it so they will be able to work with you, isntead of you petting them all the time (ppl in solo q aply your point 1 all the time, even when their team cant possibly win a teamfight because they are straight out countered, they will rush to their death with a smile on their face because thye dony know anything besides grouping and teamfighting... you need to explain to them that its not always the best way)

  1. Do not be afraid to sacrifice yourself for the team

rewrite this to "prioritize impact over pleasure " where impact is hitting 5 ppl with zigg's ult, while pleasure is killing one guy who ran from tf with it this is a rly important topic ... mainly because its so easy to do it and it helps to win games hard, aoe skills are meant to hit more ppl even if you play ez you should ult at the beggining of the teamfight trying to : A)hit everyone B)hit most of their backline (softening it means that any assasin or a bruiser who comes close is 100% sure to kill them in couple of hits)

aply the simple rule of "use your skills to their fullest extent' to your gameplay and you will get higher easy

  1. Do not chase

also add the point about not chasing the ppl who lost the teamfight when you can take their towers dragons or whatever

Point number 7 which you didnt add

get wards and outplay the enemy using vision

simple example somebody chases you and you run around the wall, you have ward on the other side so you know which way enemy is going and just go ohter way around the wall, as simple as it is wards take the duty of predicting off your shoulders and change it for simple data processing where you see what happens and act accordingly instead of thinking and hoping that your enemy does what you think

and warding is crucial to splitpushing you see enemeis come with enough ppl to kill you you back of and they waste time, you see someone walking alone ... you kill him and get the tower splitpushing is insanely effective when you do it correctly

#2 is just flat wrong, really. Play nearly anyone, just play well. Late game a Quinn vs Fizz depends who did better the rest of the match. If no one was dumb and fed fizz he's very managable.

In general play OP or top tier champions if you want "easy" wins, but you can technically play ANYTHING and win if you know what you're doing, you just need to play THAT much better.

  1. Group, Group, and Group some more. No. There are a thousand individual situations where grouping too early takes a really good situation and turns it bad.

  2. Play a hyper carry. No. Less important than playing a champion that lends itself to carrying is actually carrying.

  3. Do not argue Most of the time, no. Argue over team strategy BEFORE you attempt the strategy. That's it.

  4. Do not be afraid to sacrifice yourself for the team Most of the time, no. Only attempt if you don't scale well or are a support.

  5. Do not chase Some of the time, no. I think a better way to phrase this is stay with your team. If your team is being stupid and chasing, it wouldn't be safer to go farm the minion's by top's tower. You could get 3v1 stormed.

  6. Do not leave until you have to. Some of the time, no. I'm thinking games with Kat or Akali, who can kill you before you even have time to press flash.
