@Meddler Thoughts on tank supports dominating pro play in the past months?

Its a fact that in the highest level of play tank supports have been very dominant the past months. Worlds had Ali, Braum, Thresh, Tahm in the majority of the matches and currently Trundle entered the frey as well. You occassionally see the Janna or another non tank support here and there, but around 80-85% of pro matches have tank supports in both sides.

Are you aware of the issue and what do you think is the cause of this? Also whats your plan on solving it?

Im talking about pro play, wasnt that clear? Among the champs you listed only Lulu sees pro play, and as a solo laner

All those champions are viable picks and have seen huge amounts of pro play as supports with the exception of brand but I assume we are going to be seeing a lot of him. Why pros pick what they pick has a lot more to do with team synergy than anything. I have noticed in pro play there is a huge emphasis on doing what others are doing. Just like pro football - most teams are changing their approach to a pass heavy offense to score more points and because other teams are doing it BUT the Seahawks made it to the superbowl with strong defense and a run game only last year in a pass heavy "meta" you should call it. All of these teams are afraid of looking like idiots doing something different but typically those who do something different that win the games.

Alistar has always been a popular support, and tanky supports with CC allow for your laner to farm with the least amount of harrass, as opposed to Soraka or Sona. I really don't see how it is an issue if the pros choose certain champions. Perhaps the rest of the team does not have a tank. There is more in the equation than "everyone chooses tanky supports, just because, and that is a problem."

am not a pro or even good at the game. but it makes sense to have a tank support to absorb damage for your adc in the laning phase. and its better to have a tank with utility. other than a tank that can't do much but stand there be a bullet sponge and a squishy support that dies before doing anything supportive
