@Riot (Rant) Bramble vest providing grievous wounds is an EXTREMELY unhealthy idea

Before my rant begins, i'm sorry for my extreme negativity. But when i saw the new item i had to react - i'm a tank main myself and frequently find myself frustrated when a champion stacks Asheloads of lifesteal - but a thorns item that applies grievous wounds to attackers? This will ruin the game for ANY sustain-dependent champion. Even those that do not build their playstyle around basic attacking.

Lifesteal is already the only way to deal with heavy armor champions like Malphite and Rammus, not to mention this 900 gold item Bramble vest will completely DEMOLISH any sustain reliant champion in the game before they even get to build their items.

Aatrox XinZhao Fiora Udyr Draven Akali DrMundo Gangplank Irelia Mordekaiser Nasus Olaf Trundle Tryndamere Volibear Warwick Yorick

These champions automatically lose any trade simply by basic attacking their opponent. That's it. Basic attack your opponent, wether it be a top laner, a lee sin jungle, a galio mid or any tanky support and you've lost the trade. Its that simple.

What's that? You managed to barely survive lane against Darius / Caitlyn long enough to eke out enough gold for item 1053? Well that's a damn shame, because they or their support bought Bramble vest for the same amount of gold and your 900 gold item is turned into a 500 gold one whenever you attempt to attack them, regardless of it being in self-defence or not.

Unless you're playing an AD caster you may as well forget about playing AD champions anymore. If the enemy team has any one of Taric Rammus Malphite Braum Thresh on their team, you are nullified. You will not be able to participate in this game, one basic attack on anyone wearing this item destroys your capability to participate in any fighting currently going on between your teams.

I'm a tank main myself, and while i absolutely hate when the enemy fed Draven/Lucian/Yi/Fiora punctures my thornmail and still heals health back up, i have also had the mind-numbing pleasure of playing against Rammus, Nautilus and Malphite with a Thornmail. They are already EXTREMELY oppressive for any basic attack/attack speed oriented champion - even mages - and now they'll also reduce any healing you recieve if you attack them? How then are you supposed to fight anyone building thornmail? Not only do you take damage from attacking them, but attacking them ALSO halves any healing you recieve? League of Legends is not a game you can win through passive-aggressiveness. ( Unless you're Singed )

So besides being the dawn of the second tank meta, this is an indirect nerf to item 3085? Because you're punished for trying to fight enemy champions?

I'm just throwing it out there - a month from now you can look back at this post as the heads-up warning about the beginning of the end.

This item is EXTREMELY unhealthy. 900 gold for an item that REWARDS YOU for bullying enemy players out of lane, besides completely invalidating a number of unique playstyles?

At least give thornmail the item 3035 item 3036 item 3033 treatment. Let there be a tradeoff for picking grievous wounds. Because the way i see it right now, any fighter/tank/juggernaut/diver can build this ONE +35 armor item and afterwards stack health/damage items to ruin the entire game for ANY healing-reliant champion in the game, even non-AD champions.

This is a godsent from riot. Being able to actually have a chance now against lifestealers, who before would win the trade because of them lifestealing back any damage you did to them, meanwhile you are slowly watching your health wilt down to nothing. I was in a game where a Mao'kai who was full tank was losing a duel against a vayne because her lifesteal healed any damage he did to her. The only reason he won that fight was because I would run from fountain to throw soraka's W on him. That was it. He would've lost that fight, simply because she healed back any damage. I'm loving the new thornmail idea.

I don't play tanks often, but when I do, it's often my luck that the enemy has an ADC that I can't win a trade against because any damage dealt to them is healed up. Nine times out of Ten, they actually have more health after they kill me, than when we started the duel. I hear you saying "Oh you shouldn't try 1v1ing a ADC as a tank." but sometimes there really isn't much choice. Also, anything to slow lifesteal on anyone is an A++ in my opinion. Vlad is a perfect example of this. Sure he may not auto a lot, but if he does, he's getting his lifesteal weakened. Warwick ulting onto my ass is now going to get a surprise. Jinx's, and anyone like her that uses lifesteal is now going to have a harder time fighting me. That's a good thing.

A tank simply should not be a big health pool for an adc to suck dry.

I play Warwick ...(yes i do play champs other than Nidalee ) am i am MORE than willing to put up with this... i have been asking for this for a LONG time. the amount of healing is stupid...

I agree 100% this will ruin the game.

Agreed.

A further thing to note: Bramble Vest will be build on assassins. For 900 gold, an assassin gets to reduce a lot of their target's options against them - Armor means an ADC can't kill you as fast. The damage helps with the killing. And Grievous Wounds will shut down Lifesteal/Heal/Support interference.

I majorly dislike the idea of putting GW on both Thornmail and Vest - there should be better options. For example, turn GW into a direct restriction for Lifesteal and Vamp effects. "Unique passive - Lifesteal and Vamp effects are reduced by 60% against you."

I feel like it's a large issue in a way. I'm not sure the randuins passive on thornmail is necessary because thornmail itself is meant for champions who basic attack a lot, whittling them down while they auto attack you a lot. If you slow their attack speed they're not attacking you as much so they're not getting hurt as much. The bramble vest is pretty strong alone, I don't think it was necessary to have an item that has thornmail passive personally, but I can't be sure if thornmail is actually getting a buff or not. The GW is going to be really strong, sure, but there's also the randuins slow, meaning other champions will be hitting you more often in teamfights than the ADC, which isn't what you want as a thornmail builder, and then it has 25 less defense. I'm not sure if this item WILL be OP or not, but tanks do need something to deal with ADCs and the GW passive is likely pretty important for that. If they build thornmail they're making a conscious decision to build mostly armor, which means mages should be killing them, and isn't that how the rock paper scissors is supposed to work anyways? Mages>Tanks>ADCs>Mages instead of ADCS>Everyone? The one good thing is Bramble Vest deals a flat 25 damage per basic attack and doesn't scale with armor and most top laners don't auto that much. Riven does, but she should be able to shield some of the damage from it. Aside from ADCs going top lane which might actually solve an age old problem we've had of things like Quinn top lane.

So ADC's can inflict grievous wounds on a tank and it's okay... but a tank gets the ability to do it back and oh no this is broken? Besides adc's can just build blood thirster + botrk and still have 16% life steal. I will level with you and say that the grievous wounds should only be on the thorn mail part of it but that's it. Tanks need this and the item is fine. Also late game people seem to forget that adc's (although significantly nerfing their damage out put it many cases) still have abilities and can do things besides AA. It actually kind of sucks that late game all you see a lot of late game adc's doing is right clicking more damage than they ever could hope to do with abilities. Save for vayne who tumble crits you.
