Why do I never see Aatrox any more?

Hey there, Onwodori here.

I quite like Aatrox - from a lore perspective, he's pretty cool! He's also seriously strong when he gets going. However, I haven't seen the dude once this season and I don't believe that's an exaggeration. I've played maybe two hundred games or so (I am at this weird crossroads in life where I don't socialize -- sorry) and I can't remember seeing him.

So, why is that exactly? I feel like he fits the meta. Blood Razor is perfect for him, he sustains with no costs in the top lane and dishes out crazy high damage whilst living through everything. He can even do the 'tower dive, drop aggro' trick which is a very powerful tool to have.

Ideas?

Because cc counters him really hard and everyone in the current meta utterly wrecks him.

While his itemization isn't bad right now (Bloodrazer, Rageblade, the Hydras, Black Cleaver, Spirit Visage) aren't bad items on him at all. The issue is that there is too much that enemies can do to make him unviable. Between exhaust, Attack speed slows from Frozen Heart, Greivous Wounds from Executioners Calling and the fact that Aatrox's team fighting is garbage, he just gets outclassed by other champions who's kits aren't as dependent on auto attacks.

Look at the other Heal and Hurt champions: Darius DrMundo Fiddlesticks Irelia Illaoi LeeSin Olaf Renekton Singed Swain TahmKench Trundle Vladimir Volibear Warwick

Most of them have healing that isn't so dependent on auto-attacks as Aatrox. And the few who do all have better ways of dealing with kiting than he does. Aatrox does the same thing most of them do- but with more ways to counter him. It's double the weaknesses for the same reward.
