Ekko has an insanely strong shield that scales, Morde has a modest shield that requires him to land spells to build it.
His shield is part of his avoidable stun and AoE slow. If you stand away from it, his shield means nothing. Also Morde can keep refreshing his shield, Ekko's is gone once he's used it.
Ekko has a lot of mobility, Morde has no mobility.
True, but at least now he has that speed boost :)
Ekko has an ult with a 1.3 AP Ratio that is AoE and restores substantial health. Morde has an ult that, while thematically cool (hue hue hue), might kill you if you're lowish health as it does decent damage (and is the longest DoT in the game by far) and then, if it does, it gives him a clunky ghost "pet" for awhile.
Morde's Ult has 34% max health base damage going up 1% for every 25 AP you have. You take 17% upfront, that's painful.
Don't get me wrong, I like Morde but to call him a counter to Ekko... notsomuch.
I have to agree, that Morde actually does very well against Ekko. Ekko relies on people not paying attention. A real Morde can pay attention better than the average mid laner simply because he has no escapes, so he's always aware of someone trying to catch him.
